Just before my sister died of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, she had BRCA testing done and tested positive. We're sure she inherited the gene from our mother, who died at age 52 of ovarian cancer. The genetic counselor told me that each of my mother's offspring had a 50/50 chance of having the gene. Fortunately, I tested negative.

Just because you can zip 'em up, it doesn't necessarily mean they fit.

Here are a couple of links that might help you to understand what it's all about. You will have to check with your doctor to see what the costs are in your area but it sounds like something we all should consider having done. If it were me and I had a family history like you do, I would have it done.

Also research online for foods to eat to help prevent some cancers. I know foods in the cabbage family (cabbage, broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, spinach) are good for fighting colon cancer so that's a start :)
Update us when you can and let us know what you have learned, as I'd be interested in possibly having my husband and I do this, too, sometime in the near future.

God bless
Carol

Good Morning,
Has anyone here went for genetic testing. My dad was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and all the doctors keep telling me and my 3 sisters that we need to go. I have no idea how must it cost or if its worth getting. My dad has 7 brothers/sisters, 5 of which have passed away form some form of cancer.
Any thought or info would be helpful and greatly appreciated
Thanks
Kim
