Still the count goes on....

About the only annoying symptom I'm experiencing, is a battle with fluid retention. No sooner will the scale drop to normal (112) back up it'll go (113.5) the very next morning. It's a bit frustrating, as it's no fun feeling puffy, especially when you're not doing anything to make it happen. emoticon

I can't really say it seems to be due from Estrogen Dominance, in excess, though, as I'm not experiencing anything else. So if my hormones are out of whack, I think it's fairly minimal and my body is adjusting quite well with it. Guess I'll just have to go back to being ultra tight with my sodium, again, and see if that helps.

Welcome to the thread, GREMLIN!

So you didn't actually have a hysterectomy, then? Maybe after this many years, your hormones are finally beginning to change, in spite of the missing periods to go by. It's not very encouraging how your doctor just said "there wasn't anything she could do to help".

From the sound of your symptoms, though, it does appear you have entered into Peri-menopause. Do keep up with the Evening Primrose and allow it the time it needs to build up in your system. Try not to worry about the mood swing (possibility) as not every woman is affected with everything, or by the same degree.

I'm unable to gather much information from my mother, either, as she is 74 yrs old and suffering from dementia, so if she could offer me any information on her own experience, I'd be questing if she's remembering it 'as it was' or how she 'thinks it was'. So we're sorta in the same boat, when it comes to motherly advice.

I haven't had TOM since 1998. I'm 45 years old now. I was hemoraging so bad and quite often. Found a dr. who'd listen to me and what I was going through and he did an endometrial ablation in 1998. We already and 1 child and wasn't going to have more. I don't think I'm perimenopausal yet but after not having it for so long...since June I've been having EXTREMELY sore breasts for a week or more at a time. Then I get a back ache for 2 days and I spot. I'm not sure what this means but it's had a pattern of coming every 2 or more weeks. I saw my dr. and she said there wasn't anything she could do to help me. Maybe it's part of perimenopause. I don't know. I have no marker as in a period to go by and my mom has been dead for 40 years now. I can't compare notes with her. I'll just keep tracking my symptoms on the calendar. She did tell me that Evening Primrose Oil would help with the sore breasts. I bought some but it will take up to 3 months to actually kick in. I'll give it a try. Am grateful I haven't had a period since 98' though. Perim. and menopause should be interesting though. I see 1 of the symptoms is mood swings. WOW. I really don't need that because I'm already bipolar. I don't want that to mess with my bp disorder. We'll see I guess.

Yea, we'll lick it sooner or later, Docs! emoticon

My count is still going, also. So no change there. My body was holding onto 1.5lbs of water, but it released, this morning. Now, that USED to mean my period was gonna start..but not anymore! Nope, the mystery just keeps continuing.

Luckily, Doc, I've never been a heavy bleeder. Even when my last period didn't show up for as long as it did, nothing much came of it when it did. I was over prepared for the worst, as the horror stories of "flooding" had me on high alert. But nothing. Nada.

Who knows! emoticon

I skipped April but then it came in May. I dont have hot flashes now but I did when I started. I dont sleep well but I dont have night sweats, thank goodness! I hope to go into menopause quietly without too much fuss. I am up 17 days now so another day without in signs of TOM coming but then again I havent had any since the first of the year. I hate the not knowing when its coming part! I have changed my diet considerably, I am on a 100lb weight loss journey so I am eating mostly fruit, veggies and lean meat. I am going to avoid meds for as long as possible. Well, Going, lets hope we have gotten to the end of this perimenopause thing, I dont care for it much! lol

It's great having another 'counter', Docs! emoticon

Other than a few women at work, I have no one to talk about this stuff, either. Most of the ladies, though, are dealing with the hot flashes (which I'm not) and they don't do much with altering their diets/vitamins (which I do) so not much in common. One other lady, though, went into menopause, symptom free, so she's the one I go talk with the most. Mostly about the lack of periods and how long it took her. She also has done no hormone replacement and is about to be 60, so I question her on how her body seems to be coping without as much Estrogen.

Anyway, another day has past, for me...yet no period or symptoms of one coming.

Docs, have you skipped any periods, yet?

I was up to 47 days but then it came :( So now Im up to 16 on my new count. I am hoping that it goes past 34 days because I planned a beach trip, so here's to keeping my fingers crossed. My dr told me last year that I was perimenopausal and I have been journalizing everything about my TOMs for 2 years now. I have advanced from severe PMS, sore boobs, back pain, and cramps to no indication that its coming. It was every 27,28 days and 5 or 6 days long to 42, 45, 47 days and 10 to 13 days long. It goes from lite to heavy to lite flows. I am only 46 yo but I am hoping so much that its over soon! I enjoy reading everyones experiences because I dont have anyone to talk to about all of these things. Any comments are appreciated!

Here goes my count again:

Day 40 with zero symptoms of anything.... emoticon

Since my last count stopped due to the brief 'MOMENT of 'spot' (and I mean SPOT), I'm still gonna keep tallying up the total from my last REAL flow....

Current: 40 days

Total: 107 days

It's time for my yearly exam, but I'm kinda holding off a bit, just to see how far into this count I'm gonna go. Not even sure if I would want my doctor to run any tests (or if HE would feel it's even necessary) since other than the no periods, I'm not having any physical discomforts, due to the fluxing hormones.

Does a woman ALWAYS have to be saliva or blood tested for the menopause question, especially if she wouldn't want to take hormone replacement, anyways??

Anyways....

Guess I'll just revive this thread, even if it ends up being just for my own running tally board.

emoticon

My last TOM as for the flooding kind was 2/2011. So it's been well over a year for me:)
I might have had a very small one on occasion, but I'm not sure?If I did it did not require really any thing:)
But nothing like what I use to have emoticon .

63 days... this is my longest period of time. Before that it was 53. I guess I will get there. I'm trying to move my state of mind from sorrow to joy. After trying for 10 years, my husband and I had a surprise pregnancy that was absolutely perfect, 5 years ago. We lost our son to a stillbirth, probably by hours, by a physician who was unable to determine that Pre-eclampsia could exist without blood pressure changes (there was edema, and spilling of proteins for a couple of weeks before). Anyway, for the past 5 years, I guess that I was hoping that we could squeeze another miracle in.

My count ended on day 67...and let me emphasize the word 'DAY'...cause that was all it was! Actually, though, I wouldn't even call it a DAY, as it only really appeared and was gone by mid-day. emoticon

After reading all about the "floods" that tend to happen after skipping several months, I made sure I was loaded up with supplies. Talk about over kill...as I barely even needed a liner! emoticon

Oh well, now its off with the countdown again................... emoticon

Since January, 2012 I've only had one period. Amazingly enough, it started one week after my first vacation since October 2011. Do I just need to take more vacations, destress more, or what????????????

From reading your answers, I can tell I am not abnormal, thank goodness. I have been 50 for 6 months and starting about a year ago, my periods became completely unpredictable. It used to be that I would get a lower backache and my period would start the very same day. I still get lower backaches, but they are now infrequent, and signal nothing. It's pretty weird to change from clockwork to haywire.

At any given moment, you have the power to say: "This is NOT how the story is going to end."

Hey, Ladies emoticon

New to the team and I just made my 2 month mark, today.

I have never been one to have issues with my periods, PMS, or peri-menopause (only sign I got was heart palpitations, which I ended with vitamins, 8 yrs ago) so I guess this waiting game is more of a challenge to see how far my body wants to take this. emoticon

the results of the biopsy........no cancer, no cancerous cells. Yea!! But, she wants my to start a prescription of Previa(sp?) for 10 days, and then wait....then take another 10 day prescription in September..I have an appointment to see her again in October. My girlfriend said, all we're doing is just putting off a hysterectomy!

I had a hysterectomy 3 1/2 years ago. I still have ovaries, and am still ovulating at least some months. A year ago my hormone level was checked and it was "normal" for a woman who is ovulating. So, I'm probably peri-menopausal.

well, here's the latest after the 3 week TOM--I had an appt Friday with the GYN, she examined me, asked about a sono, and I said last Sept., so we did one, she noticed a thicking of the uterus after the 3 week TOM and I'm 55!! so, she gave me the choice of a D &C or an endometrial biopsy--my regular doctor in the am recommended the biopsy--so, Thurs I will have one, with hopes of finding an end to these problems.

Thanks Linsey. But the question I guess, how long is a piece of string?! I'm EXTREMELY happy the Remifemin has made me more sane, I was driving myself nuts, not to mention being a cow to everyone else!
I've been a crap sleeper for most f my life, but I must admit it's worse lately, figured it was stress, maybe it's a bit of both? Started taking magnesium to see if it would help, not sure if it is, but it won't kill me. Keeps me regular if nothing else!

My periods started being every other month, then it stretched into longer intervals between. The past year has been uneventful as far as symptoms....except the not being able to fall back to sleep, and frequent hot flashes. The hot flashes aren't anything like I expected them to feel like. They are just me being too warm, too hot, taking off layers, putting them back on again, etc.

Feeling more levelheaded, Micro, sounds like a good way to be. The periods may stay just as sporadic, & at any point....you might actually be done with them. Which, I say, is

Well 67 days later I get another period! No symptoms beforehand, and I even had my weigh date on Friday and I had lost 0.4kg from week before! Maybe I'll be a fat pants at next weigh-in, maybe not!?
That means my cycles this year have been 28, 37, 19 and 67 days long! Plus I had spotting one week into my 67 day run.
I'm feeling less like a roller coaster since I started taking Remifemin at the beginning of April, but then this is also my first period since then as well. That said, work has been EXTREMELY stressful the past couple of months and I haven't lost it, or even come close to it, ot even once! So that is brilliant. I feel much more level headed and not wanting to rip people's heads off, which less face, it is a great way to be!

I'm going to mention this here, since this is the thread for it. I saw my DR for my yearly exam the other day. He's never sent me for bloodwork to determine peri-menopause/menopause or anything like that. He just goes by my keeping track of my periods. Which, this means I've hit the big M and haven't had any periods for over 12 months. But, since it was mentioned on another thread, "Don't be surprised if you have one after the 12 months".....I will respond with, "Oh Lord, I hope not!!!" emoticon

Things are not looking good here, as I am at the end of a 3 week TOM again. Went to see my CRNP at the gyn office, and she wasn't happy as I wasn't either(: She wants me to have some blood work again, which I did this am, and see the gyn. She asked which one I wanted to see--and I at her mercy, as mine retired, and I last saw one when I had my tubes tied 20 years ago. She said she'll problably want an internal songram, and probably a D &C. This is the 2nd time for a 3 week TOM. Last one was in Sept 2011. I am to see her next Friday afternoon.
If history repeats itself, my mother went thru this at age 54, a D &C and they found uterin cancer with clear pap smears,-fortunatley it was encapsulated, and she had a complete hysterectomy, and no problems in the last 29 years.
My thought is, just do a complete hysterectomy and lets be done with this.

Despite my faulty record keeping (i.e.: I couldn't remember if Feb 2011 was my last or if it was March or April?)....I was waiting till May 2012 came along to declare that this is indeed the one year mark. It is here and this is it. I haven't had any. It will be interesting to see what date my Dr has written down in his records, since I'll go for my yearly appt here in a couple weeks.

Yes! I turned 50 last month and have been on the pill since I was 20 (with no breaks for having children). I am pretty normal in sleeping and have some night sweats for 3 weeks, then during TOM week - watch out!! Don't sleep well, often get hot then chilled from the night sweats - hot flashes during the day are worse (read very sporadic for 3 weeks - frequent for 1)....that is one of the reasons why I am still on the things - and of course don't want to get pregnant! Being on it helps with the symptoms and I don't know how I will handle that constantly if I don't have a 3 week reprieve from the worst of it that I have right now.
I need help/suggestions too!

i still have my TOM every month..but I also take birth control (to control the flow). I dont know if that affects when i might stop or not. I have a terrible time sleeping at night, I have hot flashes for a little over a year now. My mother stopped her TOM the year she turned 40, and I will be 50 this year. So just wondering do any of you take the Pill?

How interesting !

I never thought it would be possible to return if AWOL for 16 full months !

Being the resident contrarian, if I could keep mine for the rest of my life I would. I only get it 2.5 days anyhow, and when they stop you bring on a whole host of new problems that estrogen protected you from when younger. ( breast cancer, osteoporosis, painful sex ).

Not had mine since Feb, but I remain hopeful to see it again ( and again, and again ...)

Holy Moly! I wasn't sure where I stood with this, b/c I hadn't done a good job of keeping track. So, the February 2011 - February 2012 date was unreliable.....in other words, I wasn't too sure if that was REALLY correct for me? So, I moved the month up to May 2011 to May 2012. Well, May is almost here. I think I may be able to tell my DR that I have hit this one year mark. My appt will be the end of May. I still have hot flashes, but not as often. They come at random moments. I think sometimes that I don't need covers to sleep (whereas most of my life I've needed them up to my neck or I'd freeze.) emoticon Other times, I have to sleep with my feet sticking out of the covers. emoticon TOM? Good riddance to ya!

You are correct, our bodies are all so different, etc.

Check your local library for Suzanne Somer's books. One is called, Knockout, dealing with cancer. VERY encouraging info.

Interesting about the trauma. Unfortunately I had a brother 2 years older than me who was a famous extreme athlete - even had a movie made about him - drop dead in September and then in November my baby sister and only sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and I am currently having to watch her be tortured by the treatment. So in my case trauma did not stop it! I guess our body's are all so different and we respond to stress and other factors so different that there no way to tell how one will respond compared to others.

Good questions.

I heard that trauma can stop the TOMS. Read about one lady, who's dog died. The lady's TOMS just stopped after that.

hmmm, go get yourself a dog??? emoticon

However, when my dad passed on, it restarted my TOMS that lasted for too many days. hmmmm

Hi New member here:)

I am 51 and the longest I have gone is 84 days. For the past two years, I have been very inconsistent - 2-4 months, then I'll be regular for 2 months then back to the long stretches in between. Very frustrating because I never know when I will have one. Sometime I literally feel like I am going to start for 2 months - cramps, bloated, tired... and sometimes I go to the potty and oops there it is! I do not have hot flashes but do have night sweats and sometimes difficulty sleeping.

My Mom had a hysterectomy at 48, so I have no history to tell me when I could be finished. I have heard those horror stories of women going 11 months and haing their TOM and having to start the clock all over again. NOT FUNNY! Why do we have to play this game? At age 12 or so, we just start, why can't we just stop? Why the long, drawn out drama?

I am the kind of woman that when my feet hit the ground in the morning, the devil say's, "Oh crap, she's up".
