Sometimes I get so frustrated with this site! I had "HTML" in my post apparently, and likely I didn't correctly type the Add A Link arrows because I do that, I just type them instead of use the button; so it erased my whole message. Now I have to remember it all over. Grumble.

No worries GRANDMAKARENG. I wanted to share that fibro is likely related to Lyme disease and that'd be good to know because you'd have different treatment options. This lower immunity has to do with autoimmune disease, Parkinson's, ALS, autism, cancer and so on. It has to do with our liver's ability to process the toxins. Gotta get out toxins and as we age we're loaded with them from all over. But I won't get technical. This doctor I found on youtube explains it better and with slides. He mentions mercury also, and that it's not necessarily from fish (so now I want to say likely my nutritionist wanted me off seafood for likely the potential allergic reactions or due to higher histamine reaction due to all the bacteria they have. But maybe because of Fukushima fallout, too, idk. Regardless, I only shared what I was doing and possibly why because I haven't had a chance to ask him. Anyway the youtube video (I'm going to use the Add A Link button!) bit.ly/2rKomzT

Don't worry about being better with diet. I've learned it's not our fault. When we have dysbiosis or imbalanced gut microbes due to antibiotics, stress, it makes us worse. Pray when you want something that will feed possible fungal overgrowth. It's THEM that want to stay alive, but if you feed them, they'll grow. Candida is involved with Alzheimer's as well. Anyway, those are my thoughts. I'm sorry about your uncle, may he rest in peace.

I am sorry Dot, I just now saw your post. I have fibro, too. I take lots of supplements & prescription meds. I know I should do better with my diet.

I have been working 2 or 3 days a week in the memory care unit. My uncle passed away with ALZ a few months ago.

My own energy nutritionist asks me to not eat seafood or fish oil at all due to probable mercury contamination. Also, "healthy" fats are relative ... I know coconut is often associated with anti-candida so is anti-fungal but the fungus is actually there protecting you from the heavy metals. Coconut can be a nut, so I'm also following a low allergen diet (taking out all grains except white rice because that's easily digested but I choose to not have much if at all because there can be high arsenic. But just while I detox!

Anyway, some top allergens are: dairy, wheat (grains), seafood, nuts, eggs, legumes (specifically peanuts and soy, but legumes are hard to digest), and nightshades (can be inflammatory) ( bit.ly/2ppEc1Z . I know you're thinking, what AM I GOING TO EAT?! I know, I did also. Please see the link to the Medical Medium and chill with it the best you can. Fruit is easy to digest. And of course if you're allergic to a fruit, don't eat it. (Could be the salicylate in the skin which could also just be another sign of infections. Have heart that reducing the inflammation will eventually open up the food world after you're done detoxing!)

Fats also allow pathogens to thrive, especially processed oils and deep fried food fats (cookies and cakes to french fries. Avocado and olives are healthy fats, but invest in someone you trust regarding these matters. Ask many questions! Try to not eat from a can, find glass sources for olives or whatever. Make your own dressings ( www.medicalmedium.com has many fresh recipes.

Also, this is just another metal to understand how it works in the body: copper DYSREGULATION: bit.ly/2nMw4r7

Aluminum: bit.ly/2nAEYg4

Great book to help understand the mechanisms behind Lyme disease and how to detox; to not take an aggressive approach (like antibiotics and herbals in other books) because it can overwhelm the body. Detox needs to be in order. The book is a big ad for the center in FL which does this, but the explanations are spot on based on my own research. I wish the author would have given more "at home" suggestions, but it IS complicated and everyone is the same yet very individual. amzn.to/2pbnpzJ . Maybe interlibrary loan could get it for you.

Hi. I haven't been active on SP much because of my own health issues. My mom is the one taking care of my dad who has Alzheimer's or dementia. It is, as you know, very stressful. I try to help when I can, and the stress is too much for me. I think I've always been sensitive to others in that way. I have never handled stress well (and neither does my mom actually). I grew up in a stressful environment and sucked it up for survival. Now I'm middle-aged and finding myself like my father in so many ways. I'm the one getting dementia. I have all sorts of gut issues and my health files from allopathic and alternative medicine are as tall as I am trying to figure me out. Underneath it all is stress. The stress is handed down through generations. I'm trying to undo it naturally because our bodies are natural that way :). At different times for different issues I've taken medications (Prozac for a couple of years, Provigil for energy which made my heart palpitate so I stopped, Nexium for a month or two til I figured it was harming me more, thyroid medication for Hashimoto's which has been since 1996). With my celiac diagnosis in 2006 I went gluten free and it really helped me. I looked harder into changing my diet to help the other things wrong with me. I stopped dairy for many years and it helped, I stopped artificial food colors and preservatives and canned food for fibromyalgia and so on. This all helped tremendously. I kept getting weird infections despite doing "the right things" -- h pylori was treated with antibiotics and PPIs, then I got SIBO which is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I suspect that was due to the shift in my gut bacteria from taking the antibiotics because antibiotics also kill the good bacteria; bacteria which help digest your foods (did you know that?! They also help make your B vitamins.)

B vitamins are very crucial for memory, energy, balance. A good book I read is Could It Be B12? Stress changes the gut acids, changes the bacteria, changes the absorption of the nutrients you eat. Thus, the more stressed you are, the more nutrients you NEED (and so many resort to pizza with negligible nutrition and can actually exacerbate inflammation -- gluten and dairy for sure). Our brain and gut and actually our body is ONE and connected. It's on a cellular level. Your cells have memories. This is why music therapy helps those with brain injuries and dementia -- because the cells remember and associate the music with most often, good memories. Here's a link about Lyme and dementia/Alzheimer's, just a short one. I could overwhelm you with links, and that's not the purpose. You could also do your own searches on pubmed.gov and google. bit.ly/2nlJJdj What is helping me is uncluttering my mind and soul of past pain and dysfunction passed from the pain and dysfunction of my own parents. Part of my detox of mental garbage is giving up addictions to food and worldly nonsense I don't need; eating only organic (less pesticides for my liver and kidneys to process), and eat vegan with a splash of grass fed organic meat when I feel like it. I have little energy to keep up with all the rules from different paths I've tried, and this is just the simplest. I share that eating fresh fruit and vegetables as the bulk of the diet has been working thus far to get out of my digestive hell. As I recover, I hope to add in more foods. Part of detox will or might be also to detox heavy metal accumulation from aluminum, lead, mercury (I have amalgams and crowns in which mercury is used underneath), etc. Maybe. I'm not there yet. Sweating and niacin help detox the body. Anyway, I've edited to include this last paragraph and it's probably taking down a different thought pattern, but that's where my mind is (all mixed up and out of order); I'm just going with it, thanks. :) Finally, here's the link I mentioned: bit.ly/2nlJJdj

I've had alternative tests which show I have B vitamins in my body, but my body isn't using them. One naturopathic doctor said it was hereditary. Another one said I should take B1, B2, B3 in larger amounts due to my DNA genetics. I tried and could tell only from taking B3/niacin that it helped. Niacin is so wonderful as it opens the blood vessels to oxygenate the body. Another practitioner said for me to be careful because this detoxes the body and my body not be able to detox so the toxins I've accumulated will get stuck in the brain or elsewhere. So I backed off. I'll tell you a story: once I took I don't remember (cause I'm getting Alzheimer's, lol) 500 or 1000 mg of niacin on an empty stomach and omg, I was beet red, like a terrible sunburn. I felt great despite looking like a movie extra on Star Wars. Many people panic when they experience this. Not me, I just power through and since I felt great, I could care less. I drove to an ND appointment, ran up a couple short flights of stairs because I was bounding with energy from the oxygen? not sure on that, got to the reception desk and passed out cold on the floor hitting my head (right? just what I need, lol)! Never happened before, but never had I taken niacin on an empty stomach and bounded up the stairs, so there's that! Luckily I was in an ND's office, and she wasn't an ER type doctor, having been an optometrist in her previous training, now an ND trying to help people. Anyway, she called the EMTs who did a cardiogram right there and recommended I go to the ER. I didn't want that expense and it was a good call in the end, but I thought I'd share the power of niacin!

I'm going to share my compilation of information on Alzheimer's from pinterest. I believe I have Lyme Disease, or chronic Lyme (Kris Kristofferson is one celebrity misdiagnosed with Alzheimer's when he had chronic Lyme), which isn't recognized by allopathic medicine which is corrupt on many levels $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and profit are motivators for too many. I know there are good doctors practicing bad medicine. We are whole people which when treated by doctors and specialists are divided into segments -- psychiatrists, endocrinologists, hematologists, gastroenterologists and so on. And we go to church for the spirit. I grew up some in the church, but they made me feel bad for who I was rather than lifting my spirit so I didn't rush back for more. I also moved a lot as a child and as it turns out as an adult. Pair the DNA, the chronic stress and feeling bad (lack of B vitamins causes depression also), I just kept putting on a smile and trying to think it away (but there was no joy in my heart). I had a child. And she is on the autism spectrum which was stressful because it wasn't as talked about; so no support there either. I couldn't understand why this was happening to me because I tried so hard to do the right things. It was like I was cursed.

I am a hard worker though, and my persistence has paid off so that I understand what might best help me; and that is detoxing my life. I'm middle-aged and desperate to recover from fibromyalgia (chronic Lyme disease) which I passed to my daughter who also needs to detox. This detox will be a whole life detox, not my body only, but my environment and my spirit. There are too many rabbit holes I've gone down and what's ahead is a huge undertaking. HUGE!

Sometimes I prattle on just to detox, but I have to be careful to not poison someone else's thoughts too. I can be blunt (saves time and precious energy to get to the point because I have no energy; but I'm on the autism spectrum also - darned B vitamins might also make me more kind if they'd only "take." lol) I have one nerve and someone's about to get on it, ya know? I was short tempered with my child and have asked for forgiveness. This anger of mine has become part of her cellular memory though, so it will take her time to detox it out. Same as me my own parent's anger. I realize not everyone grew up with that stress to detox; that's my story, not yours. I only share in case it resonates.

Stress in life eats up your hydrochloric acid so you don't digest or assimilate food nutrients and amino acids necessary to make neurotransmitters and cellular energy. As we age, we lose the ability to make hydrochloric acid. Some people can just take a B complex and get B12 shots and be fine. Others need more work (on unresolved emotions stuck in the body. And these unresolved issues can go back generations and be a part of us now, but I don't want to get all woo-woo and lose you here, lol, but it's true based on my experience). That's why prayer helps some people. But here's the thing to all my Bible friends: I've never been able to remember the stories and characters. I felt so dumb when asked questions. I can't remember because my brain wasn't wired correctly due to genetics and stressful home environment and Lyme. Anyway, if you'd like to see the articles I've had to read about fibromyalgia, gut health, cancer, and so forth, and you're on Pinterest, I have different ideas to help you or your loved one. Am I fixed yet? No, I'm a work in progress; aren't we all? I've been 10 years looking all by myself all over the internet and this is my conclusion; I'm glad to finally see the light and have a roadmap to follow albeit a complicated one. Drugs don't work (Dad's been on them -- and he's at an end stage now wasting his time doing all the wrong things. It has worn out my mom who is also toward the end. It's too much for her to change anything, so I can't make a difference there. She's not open, rather she's just overwhelmed. So I try to share with the SP universe what I've learned). I hope it matters to someone.

Anyway, my name over at Pinterest is Dotslady, and here's my alzheimer's page: bit.ly/29eiERN .

Chronic stealth undiagnosed infections are not being treated but we can treat with herbals or a trained alternative doctor who understand this! Have peace in all you do my friends.

Also, one's immune system is weakened due to stress. I have PTSD from childhood and didn't really learn how to heal myself. I was born with OCD (did I mention that, I don't want to reread my own words, lol); and I sucked my thumb and pulled my hair -- this activity actually helped soothe my anxiety. There are other things one can do to soothe anxiety, but we're often taught instead to rely on someone else like the doctor to dispense a pill to make it better. This is where I'm going now to help heal myself, and I'm looking forward to learning more: bit.ly/2o2BwI3

I have begun reading and highly recommend "THE 36-HOUR DAY" by Nancy L. Mace.
It is one of rare book I wish to do a slow read on. I Have got to get each paragraph into my thoughts before moving on to the next.

SW and I went to the Senior Center. She took a drawing class. WE both saw another show, we had lunch. Then she played bingo while I exercised. A couple of ladies helped her at bingo. This is working out better than I planned.

SW and I just return from the Senior Center. We saw a storyteller and singer. Had a good lunch. I been going about six months but SW would not come along. Recently, she told me she was afraid I would leave her there. I told there were no beds at the center and she agreed to come. She had a fun time. I am hoping she'll o back. emoticon

One of the best ways to cope with our loved ones' dementia, alzheimer's and other memory problems is to share resources with each other. Please share any articles you may have come across, tips you want to share, anything that could help another caregiver!

Here's an article at the alzheimers.org website about the 7 stages of ALZ
