I'm glad it was a great day for you & your Mom! I'm also really glad that your sisters got a chance to see what was going on. I recognized what was going on with Mom much sooner than my sister & brother did as I live right here. I hope that they can start visiting more often and realize what they are missing out on.

Thanks for all those well wishes, folks! Mom had a great time and it turned out to be a HUGE party! We served mom's favorite food: hot dogs! Ha! She loves hot dogs!

And mom seemed to really and truly have a great time herself, as did dad. The only time I felt I "saw" signs of Alz. during the party was when we sang happy birthday to her and she just had this puzzled "why are you doing that?" look on her face. But otherwise she seemed to be having a good day.

But some of it was an education for my sisters. They just don't visit mom like they should. I mean some work and there are reasons...but I do wish they would make more sacrifices to visit. So seeing mom forget things they had just told her was an education for them of what "I've" been having to go through as a caregiver. I hope it will wake them up to the idea of doing more for her.

But all in all it was a good day, filled with lots of family and good times. I appreciate all the sweet thoughts everyone of you expressed for our day! Thank you!

It's a wonderful plan and I hope it goes great! We had a HUGE surprise 70th party for my mom and we are so thankful we did. Of course, at that time we didn't know that by her 75th she would already be in the decline, and are so thankful that we (and she!) had those fantastic photos, cards, and remembrances to remember. After her party, we made up a book with photos and cards from the party, and we had it set out at her funeral.

It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime memories and I know your mom's will be the same! Enjoy!

Today is mom's birthday, so me, my sister, and mom's sister wanted to throw her a big party (the reason is kind of sad, though: we want to do something like this for her while she can still remember. So it sorta has a bitter-sweet feel to it, and yet it's the right thing to do.)

Mom has talked for months about wanting to see her daughter who lives several hours from here, and has no idea my sister "will" be coming to the party! So I can't wait to see her reaction!!!

So I'm afraid my diet plan will go out the window today! Ha! I plan to party and celebrate with mom and enjoy the moment. I've encouraged everyone to take pictures and even videotape it if they have a camera (people don't think of these things, but I've often wished I had videotaped my brother while he was around. After his death I have pictures...but no "scenes" of him actually walking around and talking. Those would mean so much to me now if I had them!)

So I'm looking forward to today--mom deserves a party! I think we all need one! Wish I could bring all of you to the party...but alas, I can't! But just know I'll be thinking of you!
