emoticon ORIMOVUO2,

Take it slow - like 10 mintes 3 times a week and build from there. slow and steady makes for long lasting change. Check put the fitness activities in the Healthy Lifestyle Section and choose something easy and fun.

I started by wearing a pedometer and trying to beat my steps each day. Now I walk daily.

Good morning, I did 20 min on the treadmill this morning and had fruit with breakfast. I like vegetables, just too lazy to fix them, but today I am taking a salad for lunch!

Thanks for the goodie Nancylee and the recipe.
Have a great day everyone!!

Glad you stopped by.

How did/is the program going you did at church?

Hope you have a group that you found that you like, can meet people, and post regularly. This really helped to keep me on track.

Are there any vegetables you do like? Try increasing those - prepare them in a different way.

Keep me posted.

Sounds like you are doing emoticon . Make sure you keep connected to a team and keep sharing. I have seen too many people slip away by not checking in.

HI Everybody
I am fairly new to this group, and was so busy I have not been able to post since introducing myself in another thread.
I am happy with the challenge. It seems so reasonable and achievable.
I had a good eating time for the holidays, and even managed to lose 2.5 pds since the 17th. I felt very frustrated about not giving myself permission to "overeat" at the christmas night dinner feast we had, but I didnt' feel all gross, and that was a benefit that far outweighed the sickening feeling of being stuffed.
TOday I excersized for the first time in a while, and it felt good.
I hope you are all doing well, and .... new years is almost here!!!!

emoticon All,

The team is still going emoticon .

Eat as many fruits and veggies a day as you can

drink 8 glasses of water

exercise 10 minutes daily, until consistenly doing 2 weeks and slowly increse

Keep checking in as needed.

I am still working my way up the list!!!

As you can tell participation has dwindled.
That is OK, as long as people are being active on SOME team.

Unfortunately many sign up, but few continue on - at least not the first go!!!

This team can just be here when people need it to come back to or it can be as active as people want to make it.

My wish is for all to keep on going - one day at a time. Perhaps people will get renewed interest at the new year.

I still have a problem with "having only a little." I still have a long way to go before I internalize "healthy eating" and it becomes second nature to me.

I agree with you Jan. Feeling guilty makes us give up and puts us in that downward spiral.
I have been to Slimming world group and they advise to treat yourselves if you wish and even to have diet free days. Then you can go back on your slimming regime and still lose weight without the guilt.
Merry christmas jan.xx

Count your Blessings.

The thing is to NEVER feel guilty if we stray sometimes and eat something that we consider forbidden .Just to have a little and not a lot and get back on track asap is ok. If we go on a guilt trip then we spoilt it for ourselves .We can always adjust our calories back to sensible the next day. My Granddaughters bought me some chocolate for Xmas and I ate some to show I was grateful . I will put them away now and only have one occasionally because they were good enough to spend their pocket money on me.

All snowed in in SCotland UK .It looks wonderful but presents many problems. I am growing loads of sprouted seeds in my kitchen to make sure that I am getting plenty of nutrients when deliveries cannot be made and I have a wonderful crop of wheatgrass to sustain me. I also have loads of chick peas, beansprouts, lentils ,broccoli and alfalfa growing.I make my own bread too so I will not starve. I have loads of dried fruit too. As I live on my own I need to be prepared and I am. emoticon

Good Morning All from snowed in Massachusetts!!

emoticon PEGGIEA1 - no dumb questions here emoticon . We are still working on eating fruits/veggies, drinking water, and exercising. I am putting out a new challenge to add until I can tag someone. Check up on one of your team-mates!! My hope is that everyone is involved by now with other teams or just busy with the holiday season. Everyone don't give up, keep sharing. This is a hard time of the year for all. You won't be mistake proof - none of us are ever and we all need to remind ourselves of that. Any progress is awesome, consistency is great, continuing on is even better yet.

For those having a difficult time during this holiday, check out the holiday tips in the healthy lifestyle section and remember to be kind to yourselves.

This time of year is very difficult. Even though I have shopped for all the right things to have in the house, friends are bringing over beautiful trays of goodies. I made it through the entire day without a mishap yesterday, but when my hubby came home from 2nd shift, he began to nibble. I couldn't hold out. Ugh. I had some of them with him while we were getting caught up on the days activities. Well, I will be stronger today!

Dumb question here...what is the specific challenge we are to be working on for this discussion?

emoticon LIFEOCAMPING,

The SP class wanted to remain active and to help people get going on the spark journey, stay motivated, and continue sharing until they became active in regular groups we created a team tag challenge.

No big deal really!! We keep it simple. Just put your name on the list where it says team tag sign up. I go up the list until I tag someone to create a challenge for the team for 2 weeks. That person then tags another player to create a challenge - keeping short, measurable, and fun.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

UPDATE ON TEAM TAG CHALLENGE

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am contacting and working my way up the list to get the next person. Looks like it is going to come to Holly soon emoticon .

I want to give everyone that signed up ample time to get back to Holly, me, or the team.

I am truly hoping and praying that everyone has just found groups that they have become active in and that is awesome. We are here if anyone needs anything.

Until then - continue on with water, veggies, and exercise.

CONTINUING CHALLENGE

As I hope you have all seen thus far setting goals is important and some we have everyday as ongoing. They become easier as the healthy habits replace the older not so healthy ones. Take it one day at a time and everyone is emoticon emoticon and should give yourself pats on the back for continuing on.

I am moving up the ladder on names for the team tag challenge. So just be thinking of something motivational and fun.

Have a great Sunday all.

Hi there everbody.Sparkpeople are just wonderful and I am so glad to be a part of it. I am well on course to lose the weight I need to to lower my blood pressure and I can already see improvement. I am also following the DASH diet which is so easy to follow and coupled with my Resperate machine I am getting there .I have already lost 6lb in 2 weeks and my BP is now 135/75 instead of 178/95 so I am feeling on top of the world. emoticon

emoticon Florida ROSEBUD,

One day at a time.

I stayed in stage one, until I was comfortable to move on, however I did continue reading and setting stage 2 up on Spark. Whatever works for you.

k i did exercise yesterday... did the resistance band strength training. But I did not get my water in OR all my freggies. Let's try again today!

I am already two glasses of water in and its not six am yet so hopefully we can turn this around.

I have a question for ya'll. Did you flip to stage two right when you were able to or did you stay in stage one until you felt you put a good solid two weeks of tracking into this? Just curious. I know its been time for me to move but I don't think I'm ready yet.

Have a good Saturday ya'll!

If you lack the courage to start, you have already finished.

well gang i am trying to hang in there. the operative word being trying...

i have five freggies preplanned today and my water. i am going to do my resistance band workout this morning in its entirety for the first time in a very very long time... so let's hope this new day sends the scale in the other direction. we had a rough week with the cancer this week and a lot of pain because of his last rounds reaction and port infection and blah blah blah i just tend to use everything in my life as an excuse to enjoy a glass of wine or five and to EAT! UGH!

ok so that was a happy hello EH LOL sorry. i am whiny today but trying to come back .

If you lack the courage to start, you have already finished.

You guys are awesome - this is what spark is all about - sharing, encouraging and motivating one another on. Nothing is written in stone, this is an individual program.

I am glad you dropped in GEORGIALOU emoticon and I am sorry your teams are not so active. A group is only as good as the members that share. If you enjoy walking and running, I invite you to come join the Sparkpeople's Official Virtual Walk/Run Challenge of which I team lead. I took over the monthly challenge from Coach Nancy as it became popular so we decided to keep it going. I am still getting my feet wet as leader, but I encourage team support. We walk, run and learn together.

Have a great day all.

Nancy

I've also tracked nutrition even when I've gotten off track... A couple of days, I really blew it, but I added everything that went in my mouth. It was crazy the number of calories I ended up consuming. Then I added a journal note (its on the bottom of the nutrition page) describing why I decided to eat as much as I did and how tired and sick I felt after eating. In the future, I can go back and read that journal and see how may extra calories I ate that particular day and remember how I felt afterwards. Hopefully that will help keep my emotional eating in check. Maybe I can keep myself accountable at the same time. Hope ya'll have a great evening. emoticon

I make myself track, even when I'm sure I've really screwed up! It's surprising how often it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
I've also come to the realization that there are some things I'm going to eat because I like them and that's that! I'll make adjustments on other meals when I do, but I'm not going to deprive myself if I really want something.
It's working - I'm lost pounds and am feeling more positive about long-term success. I guess I'm becoming a "thoughtful eater."

One day at a time - Each day is a new start with a clean slate

We are on a lifelong journey, it takes time to create new eating habits. After 21/2 years I still have days I go way off track, I refocus and keep going. The key is don't quit and don't beat yourself up!!

We are in this together

*sigh* It was a bad weekend, I had a "cheat" meal of ribs on Saturday and it was downhill from there. I just am not even going to track it cause I just... can't... know... But I didn't eat the leftover mashed potatoes, I threw them out so there's a win. I did great yesterday, water, 4 veggies, 3 fruits. Today was 4 veggies, 3 fruits and water but... nachoes and pepsi for dinner. *sigh again* Tomorrow is a new, nacho free day. :)

Too much desk sitting today, but got in my 30 minutes on the treadmill. Someone force me to start my strength training tomorrow, would ya please? Have had 3 veg and fruit today, and will have salad, veg and another fruit tonight.

Water...don't ask.

Hey everyone, I haven't posted here in a few days... Thanksgiving was really hard for me. Although, I did eat more veggies during the meal compared to other Thanksgivings. emoticon Well, I'm back on track today. Water/fruits/veggies all in. Just bought an elliptical machine so I got some cardio in after work today. Hope everyone has a great week!

Good morning. Well, I met my modest goal of 630 minutes of aerobics for this first half month plus a few days. I'm going to make that 1000 minutes for December, and add in strength training. I'm grateful to have a bowflex in my garage...but it is COLD out there! I'm also grateful that my husband goes out with me.

Yesterday was a good day for fruits and veggies -- a vegetarian lasagna was great. Only got in half my water. Will try again today.

Good Monday everyone.

I lost the streaks I had going because I couldn't spin the wheel on my phone, even though I could login everyday that I was away from the internet. I kept drinking water, and about the only day I really messed up was of course Thanksgiving Day. But I survived and didn't gain any weight as of today, although tomorrow is my official weigh in.

I ate 3 servings of fruits/veggies today, drank at least 8 glasses of water, and exercised for 35 minutes. Great day!

I've always been a water drinker, (no coffee or tea, don't like colas) so drinking enough water has been easy for me. My personal goal at this time is to exercise every other day. I have been walking each day and tend to say "oh, well... I walked this morning" and skip the strength exercises.

Good morning everyone. I have to recommit to posting and staying closer to SP this week. I didn't have a bad food week, but didn't exercise consistently so didn't lose. About to go get on the treadmill and get this week started off right! All the Thanksgiving leftovers are gone so will spend some time choosing some very light and healthy recipes for this coming week. I'm a big fan of Deborah Madison's cookbooks for vegetarian meals.

Failed miserably at water though. That will be my personal goal for the week!

(Nancy, I don't allow people to email me, so if you work up to me on the list and no one has responded, jut email me here).

Okay...off the treading! Have a great Sunday everyone.

emoticon What great sharing from all and awesome progress.

We are continuing this challenge until someone responds to my tag sparkmail. So I am working my way up the list!!! This goal should always be on our list on this journey. 2 weeks is what is suggested starts a healthy habit, in case you were wondering why I chose 2 week intervals emoticon .

Please give yourself a pat on the back for sharing, posting, and continuing to participate. It is sad, but reality is, many will start this journey - WHO will be the ones to continue on Day by Day, One step at a time!! When I went to a depression Group, they told us to take a look around - only 2 out of the 20 would continue on for a year.

Let's continue to reach out and support one another.

Before I started SparkPeople, I bought myself the largest water bottle I could find and filled it up every morning. I'd leave it on the kitchen counter thinking that this would increase my water consumption. By lunch time, I noticed that not one drop of water was gone, the bottle was still full. I was never a huge water drinker. Since starting SparkPeople, I've kept my goal of drinking 8 cups of water and now I'm able to finish off the 16,000 (it seems that much) cup bottle of water. I've noticed that my skin has less dry spots not to mention that my complexion is better. I hit the washroom more often which I guess isn't a bad thing but it's the sloshing in the tummy on my way that kills me....lol I started thinking about whether it's better to drink bottled water or tap water but with the amount of water I'm drinking, the cost would add up and so I bought a water filter and attached it to my tap at home. Now I just have to remember to use the tap at home to fill my water bottle and not the tap at work....I know I'm hopeless. :-)

I've been doing really well - I can feel myself slipping up some now though because I am hungry due to increasing my exercise. The first week was easy cause my body was used to junk and just so pleased with good food that I didn't have cravings. Now, since I've been walking everyday and riding my horse four times a week, I have had to add an afternoon protein shake to make it through without cravings getting the best of me. Now I guess it's just a case of bringing enough food to work - might be time for a cooler full of healthy snacks!

I haven't had a problem drinking the water. I would suggest filling a pitcher with water and squeezing half a lemon into it and then leave the lemon in the water. It adds flavor to an otherwise boring drink! I'm feeling really positive about the SPARK plan, and have already lost 6lbs. I found that it also helps me when I fill out the nutrition tracker after each meal, or as soon as I can after the meal. I'm also looking forward to exercising again! Thank you Sparkpeople!!!

haven't been posting here, but I have been at least conscious of my goals, if not meeting them perfectly! Went over my calorie plan limit two days in a row pretty badly, but I'm not going to let that knock me out of the running. I'm still here. I have at least made my water goal every day!

I use to hate drinking water when I lived in the US but now that I live in Iceland I cant get enough water. The water here is from the glacial rivers and it is so good. I took a half liter sprite zero bottle and I just keep refilling it with water all day long.

You could get a water bottle (I use my sports bottle that I take to the gym) and just keep filling it up with filtered water. I have a 20oz bottle and usually fill it up at least 5 times a day, more if I work out that day. Just a suggestion, it's what works for me. emoticon

RThompson...how about reusing the same bottle? I do that all the time. Just refilling with filtered water. I don't like drinking out of metal, and don't want a glass on my desk in case I spill it all over my computer!

Our annual party is over, and that is it for the rest of the season for me, so I can devote myself to SP and exercise. But I've met the goals every day so far...knock on wood...and now will have the time to participate here regularly.

Everyone is doing GREAT!!

water- 8+ cups daily - I know its not good for the environment, but I noticed I'll drink more if I buy the bottles of water. Each one knocks out 2 cups of my daily goal.

Fruits/veggies- doing better...making a conscious effort to eat at least 4-5 daily.

Cardio- been trying to do something everyday for a minimum of 20 minutes.

I have totally forgotten to post here, so I'll try to do better.

Today was a good day, and I was at home a good bit of the day with my son, who is sick today. But I was feeling domestic and made a beef roast with potatoes, etc. in the pressure cooker. Yum! I have more water to get in today, and I will work out this evening. This might be the only day I get to work out until later in the week.

emoticon ALL,

You are doing great - this is only the beginning of week 3 and remember this is a lifelong jouney. Slow and steady wins the race says the snail to the fox. Some days will be good, some days not so good - the key id don't beat yourself up or you will sabotage your progress.

It took me 2 years to meet my water intake. I wasn't a water drinker, I now drink the vitamin water. Great suggestions from both of you.

Remember water and veggies is usually on everyone's goal list constantly, that is why we used it as a starting point.

I really suggest everyone do the Spark goal setting challenge. Even if you don't participate you will pick up valuable information for your own goal setting.
