Yes! I've put myself back to Fast break and have resolved to (again) track my food. Knowing that what I put in my mouth will be listed on a page goes a long way to deciding on just what I put in said mouth.

I'm working on portion size right now.

Amazingly, I think I did. I took the red-eye back from a business trip last night and didn't sleep till I got home this morning...was woozy all day...and running around with the kids and catching up with work...so didn't have the time/focus to make meals. Nevertheless, I chose okay alternatives, and although my balance of fats (not enough), carbs (too much) and protein (not enough) was off, I was able to stay within my calorie range...but more important, I was thinking about all that while I was eating every morsel. As a result, I stopped what could have easily become an evening of grazing. Yay me!!

I'm going to give myself half a emoticon because I only went a few units above range today in my fat, carbs, and calories. I ate way too much trail mix. I know why and that is something I must be careful of - not get too sleepy or anxious. I had a problem with just allowing myself to relax and take a nap. I felt guilty. So I tried to just be awake even though I was on the couch watching TV. I was extremely sleepy. For the past two nights, I've been up until 4 AM. The good part is I've been working out late at night. So after showering, prayer, and preparing for bed (and sometimes catching up on emails), it's very late. So my sleep pattern has been off.

But other than the trail mix, which I did not mindfully measure out (well, I started to then I just started eating right out of the bag), I did pretty well today. Every day is progress.

Mindful eating does take effort but it is worth it. I notice I don't eat as much and I sure enjoy every morsel

I'm a few days late, I have been tracking. I had way too many snacks on Sunday. I was almost at the home stretch when my daughter called me to watch Lady Gaga's performance on the Grammys. I was in the middle of blogging about my success.

Mindfully eating takes effort in order for it to become a habit. I've also learned that I have to watch out when others interrupt me or distract me from my success and my goals.

But overall, the last couple of days - albeit I missed some meals - were great. I made great choices, weighed m portions and tracked.

Hey, Slim.Chick! I'm in. Are we just going to continue to use this thread? I get the notifications when someone posts a new message to forums I want to participate in; so I just come back to update. I like the emoticon updates. But I can definitely use this tool to help me mindfully eat.

Someone posted here on this team (I think) about thinking before eating. Then there was another posting about eating by schedule or by intuition. Learning to eat mindfully will cover both of these areas. Planning ahead for healthy snacks will help when I want to pacify myself. Until this becomes something that is as natural as breathing, this will take some work, thought, and effort.

I'M IN!

So today so far emoticon

Planning definitely helps. Reporting each day also helps.

For the month of February my challenge is to see how many days I can eat mindfully.

I will use emoticon when I eat mindfully. This emoticon will also remind me that I am getting thinner each day.

A emoticon when I didn't do so good.

And a emoticon when I did terrible.

Anybody want to join me in this challenge?

I did well, considering I ate my two pieces of Church's chicken after 2 o'clock in the morning. I planned ahead to go out to dinner with my daughter and my sisters. I used the Marie Callendar's online nutrition calculator. Although the salad I ate was a little different from the one listed online, it was a good gauge to keep me in check. It was so helpful. I also only drank water with lime when I really wanted a drink. But I knew I only had limited calories to work with; so I didn't want to chance it and didn't want to have the guilt. I'm so happy. I did come home and have a cup of O.J., but overall that planning helped save me. I was so hungry by the time I got to the restaurant. I was VERY mindful today. I made up for yesterday's indulgence. But since I worked out twice yesterday, I'm glad I did plan because I'm too tired to pick up a weight. LOL

I did (and I am proud of it!) Instead of junk food late this afternoon, I snacked on some smoked turkey. Only problem was that it made me consider skipping dinner...bad move. Eventually, I realized that I would start grazing all night if I didn't actually sit down with a meal in front of me. We finished our salmon and veggie dinner tonight around 9:30pm, but it got me out of that potential "hot water" situation and I stayed under my calorie limit-
...It's a constant struggle!!

I started out pretty good. I worked out this morning, which took my appetite. Then I had some running around to do. Drank 3/4 of sugar free Red Bull to keep me going. Decided to do Jillian Michaels Boost Metabolism this evening before I indulged in the Church's chicken I wanted. The upside is I just ordered chicken, skipped the biscuit (which was no easy task), added a spinach and roma tomato salad with light vinaigrette dressing and an apple for dessert. Overall, I am within range, but that is because I did not eat lunch.

I could have chosen a healthier option, but fell back into the old habit of being alone on a Friday night. That's how it was when I was a little girl coming home and the house was empty. More time alone with food....

But I recognize and my counter-attack for making the conscious decision to splurge tonight was to put in some work. So I racked up a combined 80 fitness minutes today. So all was not a loss.

I was not necessarily MINDFUL, but aware and conscious of my eating. emoticon

Each day I get a little better. emoticon

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Even if we lose the race, we are still a winner (just a slow winner).

As long as you keep moving, you are still lapping those on the couch.

Do not take things personally as it is never about us.

Don't find fault, find a remedy.

Yesterday I did a little better. I started my meals mindfully but my mind tended to wander around during my meals.
With daily practice I will master this practice.

Today:
Breakfast - Did much better. I even noticed I was satisfied.

Lunch - Yes! I really enjoyed my meal. emoticon

No. Since it is not a habit I keep forgetting. I am aware how mindlessly I eat though. I put up some reminders so my next report will be better.

No. emoticon I gobbled down my breakfast and read while I ate lunch. Since it is not a habit yet, I keep forgetting. Tomorrow I will do better.

Last night I had one bite of my daughter's brownie dessert and just savored the flavor. It was more satisfying than if I had gobbled down a whole one by myself!

Sort of. I hope to make it a habit soon though!
