I am so jealous.....
I had 2 vitamix's years ago...they were destroyed in the house fire.
The first one I got for $150.00 at a trade show.
The second one (had a spigot) I got from my grandmother....they were awesome.

If they still cost under $200.00 I'd have one today....but, alas......

CONGRATULATIONS on your new toy. ENJOY.

It was so funny. At first, we were making 3 or 4 smoothies a day with it! I think you are well on your way from what you are describing. :)

Yes, I have been having a great time looking through the recipe book that came with it. Plus I downloaded the recipe book that has recipes from the people who work at Vita-Mix that showed up after I registered my Vita-Mix. I think I am going to try some of the pumpkin ones.

I think I will bake some baked potatoes and butternut squash so I can add them to my blender later.

I am also currently soaking some almonds so I can make my first batch of almond milk. I buy almond milk but this will be my first time making it from scratch. Very excited about this.

I just made a few batches of pudding. I think I will get some cottage cheese as well as my Greek yogurt because I think both of them will do well in my smoothies and add some protein. I've got some bananas in my freezer now - I agree they will do well in my smoothies.

I am so excited to make some of the soups, they do look yummy.

I made another green smoothie this morning - grapes, spinach, apple, pear, papaya, and lime. Quite tasty!

I have found the recipes in the cookbook that comes with it are very good. I especially liked the potato soup recipe (sorry, it has been awhile so I don't remember the name exactly). I think it used leftover baked potatoes, a bit of bacon, low fat milk, green onion etc... I had everything in my fridge and decided to go for it and was shocked at how good it was. We typically blend up oranges, strawberries and bananas, or some mix of them. Of course that won't help while you are avoiding acidic things. Bananas with milk (or substitute) and ice would be yummy with a touch of sweetener. I make my smoothies in them every day. The thing is amazing. Soups though are cool. It will cook it while it is in there if you process long enough.

You are so right, Shani! I am already loving it. I used it twice yesterday. I am so glad that you said that though. I really didn't have buyers remorse for it, I was just pleased as soon as I bought it, but it is still so nice to hear that others love theirs.

Do you have any veggie recipes/ smoothies, soups, ice cream recipes you'd like to share? I am especially looking for recipes that don't have anything acidic in them so I can use them while I am recovering from having my tonsils out.

Have you ever used yours to make pudding? I am going to be cooking up things today in prep for tomorrow.

thanks again, Shani!

Thanks for thinking of me Sarah! I went ahead and bought the Tower today; $200.
That`s cool about your VitaMix. I`m using my kitchenaid; it`s working great. When it stops working I may get a VitaMix too.
I love making my own almond milk!

Hey Laura -

I was in Sears this morning picking up another stability ball - mine started deflating on me yesterday (I use it as my desk chair) so I had to replace it right away. While there I saw the Tower. It was on sale for $179 (I think). Just thought I would throw that out to you.

Also, I just bought the Vita-Mix blender. I am going to have my tonsils removed on Monday so I thought this would be a good time to finally make the splurge. I also bought a big bag of almonds from Costco so I am going to make almond milk (again, Finally). I recall posts from you about the blender and the almond milk, so I thought I would share this info with you.

Yeah that's why I loved it it looks like it could give me the workout for my back that regular bands can't. I am doubling up on my bands already and I have put 30lb strength and my 20lb together and I am scared their going to snap at any time.

Yeah. I`m hoping that it can get me doing unassisted chin-ups and pull-ups. The resistance bands are kind of a joke (not really a joke; good for travel but not serious strength work). I seem to have a pretty hard time getting my BACK muscles. Even when I lift really heavy. I always seem to feel it in my shoulders. I know my form is good; I`m lifting so heavy I have a hard time holding the dumbells (for say dumbell rows) with my hands (40 pound dumbells). I concentrate on the muscle. Lifting too heavy and form suffers. I`ve tried SLOW lifting and heavy lifting. My back looks quite defined. I don`t have a fat back, but I think my body weight it preventing me from doing unassisted pull-ups. Anyhow, I`m hoping that with 200 pound resistance I can really STEP UP to doing those chin-ups. The Tower certainly looks great for doing resistance exercise that the resistance bands just aren`t working for.
I like the bands for some things, but I want more resistance. I will look like the HULK in no time! lol!

That looks cool!
I may get that TOWER 200. I like that I could replicate gym machines (well almost) for resistance exercies. Not too portable though. lol!
The toughest resistance bands I can find only go up to 25 pounds (I could order 30`s) but I am scared they`re gonna snap on me (happened once before).
The TRX looks tougher.

PS. I like the ad for the Tower 200 `Let`s Go Princess` LMAO!

Here is a review for the Tower 200.
Since I still haven`t fully loaded my troy lite bar to max capacity (80 pounds) I figure I got LOTS of wiggle room with the Tower. I have thought about it for a long time. I really want a HOME GYM, (lol) but no room and really expensive.

Sarah, it is good to know that the STS cardio works so well with the strength. I had wondered and I know some people had said that before but well, I don't know, it it just seemed odd. But it being shorter DOES make sense that it would help keep the muscle gains and after doing a few STS workouts lately, I am remembering how *sore* you get.

I did disk 9 on Thurs and I'm dying right now. My hamstrings in particular are wound up so tight I can barely walk!

I've backslidden... I reached my goal and was now maintaining, but now I need to lose 10 pounds and firm up.

I definitely recommend getting TRX.
I mainly got it for use while traveling but think it is a great workout to do at home too. In many ways it's better than using traditional weights because you can't help but use your core and supporting muscles when you do exercises. With weights it's easier to compensate for your weaknesses while TRX helps targets the weaker muscles. You are also able to go deeper with most of the exercises because you are supported, for instance I feel I do better quality squats and lunges when I use TRX.
They have a good selection of workout DVDs for it. They are pretty good quality but they are more business/serious than you get with Cathe and other trainers. They come with decent booklets so you can do the workout even if you don't have access to a DVD player. Most of the workouts are either military themed or sports specific. My favorites Train Like the Pros, Basic Strength and All Body Xpress.

I finished STS in April - LOVED it! I had done parts of it before - I had done meso 1 3x, meso 2 2x, and finally was able to do it all the way through. The first time I only did meso 1 because a friend on SP got STS and I restarted so we could do it togther. But I had to stop the second time after meso 2, because I injured my knee doing cardio. So I finally did all 3 mesos along with shock cardio...wow. What a great workout combo! Really worked well. I liked having the shock cardio workouts better than the other Cathe workouts I had the first time around. I think having the shorter workouts really helped me.

I think the 1 RM and the workout manager and the workout cards are what make STS so superior to anything else that is out there. Not doing the 1 RM and not following the workout cards really would decrease the benefits I get from this workout, NO question. I wouldn't have bothered with the 1 to 2 lb increment increases if I didn't have my workout cards telling me what weight to lift. It also really helped me trust the weight increase from workout to workout. I don't know how CE or P90 or P90X can even come close to getting as good results if you don't have the calculated weight increases.

BlackAndi - check out the meso 1, 2, or 3 challenge web pages. I did daily checkins on those topics for each meso cycle and made some really good friends while doing STS. It seems there are always some people doing STS.

I planned on starting a rotation of Meso 1 this week. I have a pop-up trip coming up which makes following the schedule a little tough. I will also be moving in July so I don't know how long I will have to wait until I get moved into a new home.
I did the disc one on Tues and was surprised at how much strength I lost. I will take my TRX and bands with me during my travels to work on building my strength back up.
I will also have to start my marathon training about the time I move too. It is going to be a challenge since I'm moving to Fl and humidity kills me.

Wow, I've gotten better results with STS, but I also didn't make it all the way through p90x. Also with STS I'm always upping my 1RM. (probably why I see gains better.) I do think that meso 1 and 2 are harder -than meso 3 probably with meso 1 being the hardest and I think it is the push-ups and pull-ups. (but even the paper plate work for legs is harder there because you have to set them down forcing you deeper in the move.)
I also did p90x with bands and I now have a pull-up bar, so that is probably a big difference with my strength gains there. Push ups and pulls ups are both crazy tough exercises. I still think Gym Styles chest and tris is Cathe's hardest workout because of the dang drop set of push-ups at the start. Wimps me out for the whole workout. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

so am I...so am I, but I do want to get some muscle in before the year is out though. I really need to get that in. I haven't done it since the last time I did STS. It's about time.

I would like to do it inthe fall, but I make no promises as to a start date. I'm kind of irresponsible and unreliable that way. emoticon
If you like I will let you know later in the summer. Most likely after school goes back in.

Also, the roation part of P90X is really the strength workouts. The cardio (except for Plyo) is garbage. I won't waste my time with Cardio X, or even Kenpo. The Plus cardio is better, and Insanity and Cathe cardio are better still.

I like Tony actually - dork but I love him. I do his P90 Ab workout. Sometimes I'll do Ab Ripper X but don't like that too touch. And if I mix up the program then I'm technically not doing a P90X rotation. Well, that's how I look at so I throw discs in depending on my goals and how I feel at the time. I can, however, stick to STS because of what I said before...but I totally love Tony Horton.

Yeah. I am totally mixing it up with the P90X this time around. I have been adding Cathe, Insanity and other stuff like my own tabata intervals. Cathe also has better ABs workouts, so I have been doing hers instead of the Ab ripper X.
I have made this round of P90X much more interesting. I also have the PLUS workouts now too. TYhe INTERVALS PLUS is good.

Tony is a dork. But HE is not why I'm doing the program. I did P90X over a year ago, and I still have to say, that I got better (more noticable) results than with STS. Maybe it's all the dang pull-ups and chin-ups?
I will try STS again, but I think that getting all worried about my 1RM kept me from lifting heavier. I'm not even gonna bother with 1RM next time I do STS; I'll just fill out my workout cards and do what I FEEL instead of the "calculated percentages"

Anyhow...

What I am doing with the P90x, I am doing the strength dvds but once I do all his cardio I will be throwing in Insanity cardio and alot of other cardio dvds for a wide variety of workouts then I hope I won't get board with it. emoticon I do so love his strength dvds as I am increasing my weights big time I went from 15's for tricep kick backs to 20's and 20's for hammer curls to 25's I love it!! I am even doing the odd full body pushup which is I thought I would never be able to do that because of my back and I am bottom heavy emoticon

I haven't lost it. I have just wanted more cardio and needed a time when I could commit more fully. It drains me so bad... and with 5.5-6 hours of sleep, I can't hack it. This summer I might go for it again.

I've backslidden... I reached my goal and was now maintaining, but now I need to lose 10 pounds and firm up.

Kfears omg you said what I feel! The too few workouts is what turns me off. At least with STS I feel like or Cathe the workouts up so that my mind could see different workouts every other day. LOL! Sounds so funny, but I need that. That is why I couldn't do CLX and Insanity the way it was intended. I'll do one of the workouts from those programs here and there whenever I feel like it. Great workouts, too few.

I don't know how you guys can do p90x after Cathe. I couldn't stand that guy. So annoying. Not to mention you only have a few workouts to repeat for all 3 months. I only made it through a month. I guess I'm just way too picky. Good luck with p90x.

Ok Ok...I'll wait for you guys!!! Fall it is. LOL! But I can't do P90X. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing because it's working. Just wanted to put on some more muscle.

I'll be starting meso 3 that week. I'm on my third time through STS. I can't seem to do anything else for very long. I love STS and how varied it is. I also love when I can see my stength gains. I just post my daily workout info on the What Cathe DVD did you do today thread here in this group. You could do that if there is not another place to post and moan. ;) Meso 1 is so hard. Good luck!

I'm feeling dread with Cathe period now. I've been doing A LOT of weight work with KCM, Amy Bento and a massive amount of bodyweight work with Lalo and Zuzana. When I need to do cardio then I'll pull out a Cathe and I try to avoid any Cathe workout with the word "max" on the end because of dread. Eeeeek!

I really never thought I'd feel this way right now or ever. Maybe I'll get my Cathe buzz back soon. I just like what Meso #1 did for my strength since I'm trying to train balance and strength to hold my bodyweight right now...trying to learn how to do pushups from a hand stand.

OT...I bought that Marisa Tomei workout and I love it. It's so calming, soothing and effective and maybe so because it's sponsored by Gaiam. I have to do a lot more reps than she does to feel the burn, but I found that it helped to tighten up my booty and my legs a lot and it's totally low low impact.

I really feel dread when I think about any of the Beachbody programs and I mean A LOT. For some reason I just can't do them. :(

If I wasn't right in the middle of P90X I probably would. I'm gonna do the P90X PLUS after P90X, then try STS again in the fall, I think...
I think that STS is so intense, you gotta be so serious about it. And commited. I sort of started top dread it! lol! I liked it, but with summer coming it seems like a big commitment right now.

I wanted to ask because I've started working on my 1RM so I can start STS on June 1. Anybody want to do this with me? If not, that's fine. I just never hear anymore, currently, about STS or anybody who are going to do the rotation again...not even on the Cathe boards. Had to ask for support purposes!

Thanks!
