Yes, I mentioned his method in addition to his training plan because the entire approach is key to running your first marathon injury free. That includes not having a time goal (i.e. training "to finish") and using the right training pace in the long run (based on a time trial he calls the Magic Mile). Plus taking walk breaks.

I used Jeff's to finish plan for my first marathon. It's really good to get you to the finish line without injury. However you might not meet the pace predicted by you 10 k races. Maintaining the same intensity for a longer race requires speedwork, in my experience. That does increase your risk of injury

That's a very good goal. That is what Jeff Galloway's plans and his run/walk/run method are designed for.

My main goal is to minimize injuries as many newbie runners end up getting injured due to lack of proper knowledge with regards to training!

emoticon to the team. Yes there is variety in the plans. I think you are likely to be successful if you follow many of the plans. I guess the one thing that could well get you in trouble is by combining plans to either make it too easy or too hard. You know chose your mileage using a high intensity low mileage plan but decide you can run way because that is the intensity suggestion of a higher mileage plan. For you first marathon assume the plan mileage and intensity are part of the plan

Hi!

Here is a link to Jeff Galloway's "to finish" marathon training program.

Also, Jeff has a great book called "Marathon, You Can Do It" with great advice and directions for training.

Have you been using Jeff's run-walk method for your 10Ks?

"It's not how old you are, it's how you are old."

"I am still learning." Michelangelo

"You aren't old until age becomes your excuse." Joe Friel

Hi ,

I am new to this group & am planning to run the Standard Chartered Marathon in Jan 2014. I have run many 10k before.
Experienced marathoners ,could you suggest a good & comprehensive training program . There are several of them on the net. However, I am confused as some advocate loads of running while others advocate mediocre running load coupled with strength training & core conditioning .

Really want to run this..There is no half marathon option for the standard chartered so full marathon is on the agenda !!!!

Looking forward to your advice ..

Cheers
Jihan
