Great approach, keep setting those interim goals for yourself and your long range goal will happen. emoticon 50 pounds in six months sounds realistic and achievable. I agree with your outlook toward the surgery. It is definitely an alternative which has done wonders for many people, but if you can master your weight without undergoing it, a great big more power to you. Wishing you the best of success. emoticon

Thanks for all the welcomes. My long time goal is to lose over 100 pounds, my first short term goal is to get to 350 by Dec. 31. I have lost 30 pounds and have 7 more to go. I am planning on having the gastric sleeve done, but my date has not been set yet. I mentally told myself that if I could lose 50 lbs in 6 months, then I would skip the surgery. Hover, my knees have gotten so bad that going to the gym is getting harder to do. But we shall see how it works out.

Welcome to the 'Sparkteam' world. As others have already stated, we as men in this organization are a definite minority and we seem to remain quiet for extended times, but we are still here. Hope to hear more from you in future posts. emoticon

Sparkpeople is about 4% male, according to the best available estimates I have heard. The social media side of the web site probably is even less. Welcome aboard, and is there still a highway there named for Mark McGwire?

I know what you mean about weight loss groups being overrun with women. I have been in WW and TOPS and have been the only man most of the time. I have tried many diets and lost interest after a while because discussions at meetings dealt with women issues that I didn't really care about. I hope to get some good info and support from this group! Glad I found you guys! I am in High Ridge, MO which is west of St. Louis. Look forward to engaging in good conversations!
