I an 6ft 1" and am 118 kgs i am currently 28 yrs old and am still playing rugby league.... have had a few injuries this year.... prior to this season i was doing strong lifts 5 x 5 which i am sure is the reason for my muscle tears as my muscles have become too short and tight. I am in no way bad mouthing 5 x 5. I have seen great results with my body and strength, 200kg dead lift, 180kg squat and 140kg bench, but i also tore a hip flexor due to bad form and sprained my ankle due to a freak occurrence when squating lol. But for any explosive running sport my lack of extensive stretching and muscle imbalance caused by squats with 5 x 5 has caused a problem ... my fault not the programs.... i have joined spark as i would like to drop to about 100kgs but am looking to improve my core strength and just overall strength with my body weight as the medium as i am having trouble with my ham strings and am just looking to integrate a good workout 3 days a week with my 2 nights of footy training and game day.... i am pretty onto my diet all ready except for beer intake :(.... i have just lost a little motivation to work out and do weights as i am really trying to get on the footy field ... anyways looking forward to sharing my journey and helping others .... Any one needs any advice im happy to try and help my fav exercises are squats, deadlifts and bench press..... but these are taking a back seat at the moment as I have come to a point were i want my body to be able to be strong using just my body weight and then and only then will or should i start trying to push my self with heavy weights again .... well on my legs that is anyway...

Welcome to the MYNA team and SP! You have a little more to lose than I do, and I'm a little taller, but same journey man. Log your food and do your exercise is the best advice I can give. Stick with it for 90 days minimum and your success will carry you far!

Hey guys, my name is Mike. I've been above 250 since my freshman year of college in 1998 and have steadily gained weight over the past 15 years. I hit my high weight of 307 in 2011, but have come down a little bit. I joined SparkPeople a few days ago and my starting weight is 292. I'd like to lose over 100 pounds. Ideally I would like to get down to 175 pounds. I could probably stand to get down to 160 since I'm only 5'7", but I would be thrilled to get to 175 considering that I haven't weighed that since I was in MIDDLE school.

Well I'm certainly no Doctor but I'd recommend starting with Stronglifts 5x5 to start off. I didn't have a back injury but I had back and knee pain and thought I couldn't do things like squats and deadlifts but my son convinced me to try...I started off very light and worked slowly. Just this morning I squatted 215 and deadlifted 265! Common "wisdom" would stay to stop doing that stuff and you'll slowly get better. I had a knee injury (torn miniscus) and couldn't even sit still for more that 5 minutes without knee pain. I am now knee pain free!

I think it's worth a try...just be sure to go slow and follow proper form. If you're not sure how to do an excersize google it and watch videos to be sure you're doing it right. Here's the link:

http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-b
eginner-strength-training-program/

It's free to get the program and if you have and iPhone/iPad there's a free app to track your progress.

Good luck

Hi my name is Frankie and i just joined today.

I am in total awe of you guys. The inspiration here is awesome and i am absolutely blown away with some of your commitment and weight losses so far.

I weighed myself this morning and came in at 257 on the nose. I have set myself a goal of loosing 10% weight. But what i will really be focusing on is my fitness. I am hoping to get back running and join the local running club in the New Year.

Anyway i just wanted to say hi and i hope i will speak to a few of you in the future.

That's where I started too! You can do it. I'm down 50 as of a couple weeks ago...just keep at it. I'd recommend strength training if you can. It helps!

My doctors telling me the same thing. My issue is being able to move since my back is injured. I started at 313 in Jan 1 my goal weight is any where between 200 to 180 I am only 5'11" though but I do have a large bone structure according to my surgeon. Since my back was injured back in 2000 I have had major issues being able to move. now, that I am getting older it seems to be getting harder or I am getting lazier or its all just getting to me and I am giving up not sure. I am sure how ever I have to fight threw this for my family as well.
I am currently talking to the wife trying to figure out physically active things we can do to help us stay thinner.

I am just getting on SP again. Doctor is telling me that the time is NOW for a big change. I know I need to get it done for my wife and kids, but I have been struggling for many years with food and fitness. I've got to get rid of at least 100lbs (I'm at 275 now, which is ridiculously heavy for my short frame). I am setting my goals in phases with a plan for losing 10% of my body weight in each phase until I hit 175 (hopefully by the end of next summer).

I am a classic case of knowing exactly what to do, and how to do it. I have been able to lose as much as 60 pounds before, but it just comes back. Getting it done in the long run requires deep change in a mindset that has brought me to a very bad place both physically and mentally...pissed off and depressed over being here.

My goal is to channel that into something positive. Like I said, I know the steps that need to be taken. I just need to take care of the mechanics (healthy eating, exercise, sleep, water, lower stress, etc.), while I figure out how to stick to it in the long run this time. I'm hoping that joining SP Teams like this will help me get it together. It's encouraging to see guys working at it and making some progress. Keep it up! emoticon

Am 39, started at 343 in October. Been working with a trainer and have incorporated strength and cross-training as well as a running regimen to train for a half marathon next spring. Have a couple of 5k's under my belt and have changed my eating habits and lost nearly 50lbs so far. Hoping to get under 243 by the end of the year.

My starting weight is 398. I just started some new lifestyle changes and so far everything is fine. Sparkpeople claims I should be eating around 2900 calories but I've been eating around 1800-2000.

I'm looking forward to my next weigh in on monday. I have A LOT of work to do...

New here, been on Spark for 60 days. Starting Spark weight: 281. Now 254. So far the site has been working great for me. And to whomever said that Spark is 90% women: that estimate seems all kinds of low. Try 96%. Shame I'm not still dating!!!

At the end of summer last year I weighed myself and I was 142kg (312.4lbs). I decided to go on a diet and lost some weight, but it didn't last long. Last week I weighed myself and I had gained back what I had lost last year, and some. I weighed in at 143.5kg (315.7lbs). So I decided to make a change. I had originally joined Spark People almost 2 years ago, but I started a new job just after joining and things got hectic and stressful and it wasn't long until I was back to my old ways.

This time around after joining Spark People for a second time, I've had the opportunity to actually get to know how to use it. I'm still only in my second week, but it's going a lot smother than anything I've tried in the past.

Just a little info on how I got to where I am today. Until about 8 years ago I used to be very active. Played basketball for a team on the city leagues and we practiced 3 times a week. I also played baseball and practiced once a week there. My other passion was racing offroad bikes in enduro races around southern Japan. I was actually looking to get my national B license before I got sick. I picked up a bug and got bacterial enteritis. Basically it's a gastric infection. This led to me getting reactive arthritis. It took me 11 months to get over and when I returned to playing basketball, I broke my angle and was out for another year. By then I had gained about 60lbs. I'm an eater, and without exercise, I was doomed. I just never got back into sports again until now. So in 8 years I gained roughly 120lbs.

Anyway, I'm sick of people complimenting me on how filled out I am now. I need to change. I'm ready to kick it in the pants!

My short term memory isn't too sharp these days. Also, my short term memory isn't too sharp these days.

I'm 275 and 5'10 looking to drop 40-50lbs in the next 6 months. My sister is getting married in June and I told my family about my weight-loss goal. It has helped a lot I think. Imagining the kudos from my family really helps me get on the elliptical in these crucial, habit forming early stages. As well, I think the thought of having to admit failure to my whole family motivates me too. Long term I'm looking to be about 190-210 or so depending on how much muscle I can put on.

My philosophy in life was, "I'm big because I'm doing well." I always used to say that I love Doritos, and Ice cream and cookies and cakes and I'm going to have what I want. The number that scared me was 300. A couple years ago, I went on my first diet. It worked for a while but I got lazy. Pretty soon I was back up there. This time I'll not make it to that number.

Hello fellow men.

I will be 30 in July and finally reached a point where enough is enough. I have let myself go for far to long. I am currently 467lbs. I would love to be in the low 200lbs range. I know I have a long way to go on the\is journey but I have to start somewhere. I am trying to be at 375lbs by the end of the year. I know this will be a tough road ahead but hopefully with the encouragement from others and sites like this I can reach my goals. My problem has always been plateauing I reach a weight and maintain it till a life event happens then I move to the next plateau etc etc. I even do this when working out I will lose a set amount of weight and then can not make it past a certain point. Its nice to see other men of my size and slightly smaller trying to make a difference in their lives. Good luck to you all on your journey!

I'll be 30 in June and stepped on the scale the other day and realized I've never been this heavy topped out at 283. Decided if I want to see my kids grow i need to make some changes as heart disease and diabetes runs in the family. It will be very tough, but with motivation from my kids I can do it. If anybody needs any help or motivation, I'm here to help or always willing to talk football! Go Pack Go!

I'm 56 years old, and topped out at 348. I managed to get down to 334 the day I signed on to Spark. My health is not great, and I have the big 3-High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol and Type 2 Diabetes. Joined the gym back in October and injured my foot. I finally got back into the gym and I'm shooting for 220 by the end of the year. That is a little less then 10 pounds per month, which I don't think is unrealistic if I stick to the gym. Weigh in today 328. That is a quick 6 pounds, but I think it is primarily water loss.

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not kicking and screaming like the passengers in his car.

I am 38 and I have been hovering around 350 for the better part of the last few years. I lost some when I first got serious about being on Spark and then I had a bit of a breakdown and went away for a while (and went right back to my old habits). I am at 360 right now. I plan on being under 300 by my anniversary (September 18th) and under 200 by my 40th birthday (4/9/2013). I know it is ambitious but I know I can do it.

Like the page says, you are not alone.

Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

I am 46 years old and today the scale read 271.1 lbs. I started almost a year ago and went from 282 to 245 lbs in about 3 months. I got lazy and figured I could keep going w/o doing the things that got me that far. I have decided that 2012 is the year of Life Changes NOT Resolutions!!!

My Overall Goal is to lose 90 lbs.

Mini goal #1 - Lose 30 lbs by April 17, 2012

I am 47 and Jan 2011 I weighed in at 398. I'm 6'2" so I'm all around "big". That was pretty embarrassing and I decided I needed to get on with it. I joined a gym, started working out (but without a real plan) and just tried to "cut back". Lost a few pounds but nothing sustainable. In June my college age son encouraged me to start real strength training regimen. That's worked great and I can really feel that I'm getting stronger but I still wasn't losing much weight...frankly because I was still eating too much. I'd lost 50 pounds on the Carbohydrate Addicts' Diet 15 years ago but, of course, gained it back when I stopped. I re-started CAD three weeks ago and the pounds are coming off. Right now I'm down to 374 and feeling good. The CAD is great for those who don't do well just cutting back. For me it's easy to follow and I DON'T FEEL HUNGRY!! It only works if you have the right body type, however. A good indicator is if you eat a bowl of cereal (or two or three) for breakfast and then are hungry again 2 hours later the CAD will probably work for you. Just search for The Carbohydrate Addicts' Diet on the Sparkpeople site and you'll find information.

My goal, like many "heavy guys", is to lose 100 lbs., however I want to stay strong so I'm continuing my strength training. If you're looking for a good strength training program go to www.Musclehack.com and read about his THT program. You can get the info and workout for free. I've been following it for appx 25 weeks now.

There’s always a reason to put something off. Always. The people who succeed are the ones who do it anyway.

I am 50 years old. I weighed 355 pounds last December. I started SparkPeople as one of my new 'rituals' and took baby steps to lose 70 pounds. I have maintained through Thanksgiving and am not going to hit my original goal of 100 pounds by Jan 3 2012, however I have learned that for me the most important thing is to develop new healthy habits I can maintain forever and the weight loss will just be a result. One day I will wake up and be at some weight someone else says I need to be at... but all the while I will have been enjoying a more active lifestyle which is my main motivator.

I have 7 kids. I want to be really active with them... and I love to 'play' so I want to be active for me to be happy. I am back playiny tennis some soccer, having fun working out. I will just keep doing this and keep losing a pound or two a week.

One deal I made with myself is I would target to not gain a pound in a given week in 2011 and if I did I would recommit to my habits that were getting me there. One of those is logging my food. I get to points where I think I can manage my food intake without detailed logging. I go about 3-4 weeks without logging and then find I am not getting results I want so I log my food again and find that low and behold I am in eating more than I thought.

Moral of the story... stay close to SP... slow and steady wins the race.

I'm weighing in at 410, and want to get close to 200 or 190. Work in a kitchen all day, so the challenge is cooking healthy and to not snack all day. Hoping to find some support and accountability on SP to keep me distracted from food.

Hey there. Im 48 married live in upstate NY.
I started out on spark in june at 318 pounds. Daily exercise and logging my food intake has me 61 pounds lighter 6 months later well on my way to hit my first goal of 100 pounds in a year. My goal is to lose a total of 130-150 pounds depending on how much muscle I can keep as I get past 200 pounds.
High blood pressure and cholesterol. pre-diabetic morbid obese were all on my chart at my last Dr appointment in June. Hoping to see a different picture at my june 2012 appointment.

Just curious how many of us heavy guys are on here, and what your situations are like?

As for me-I'm currently floating around 340, and looking to drop 120-150lbs, with a goal weight of somewhere around 200lbs.
