You need calories to lose weight. I know that sounds weird, but when you set up your nutrition tracker and weight loss goals on here, they are pretty close. That's if you exercise along with the recommended calories. I build my diet around protein. I try to eat 22 to 28 grams of protein per meal, 5 times per day. I do moderate to aggressive exercise for an hour or more 4 times a week. The protein balance seems to be working well for me.

My full list of proteins come from the following: Lean chicken, lean turkey, lean beef, rare servings of pork, one egg with enough egg whites to get me into my protein goal, legumes (all sorts of beans and peanuts), quinoa, and tofu. I'm allergic to fish and seafood, so none of that for me.

Once I pick out my protein for a meal then I go to town on fresh fruits and veggies to fill me up. Then, and only if I need more calories, will I eat other forms of carbs. I try to stick with whole grains. There are plenty of whole grain pastas, breads, cereals out there for a person to find something they like. I almost never ever eat simple carbs.

However, you will find it is very difficult to reach your daily caloric needs by eating the right amount of meat 3 - 5 times a day and filling in with veggies. You will find that you need a helping or two of those whole grain options.

If you are finding it difficult to stay within your calorie range, then the advice earlier in the thread to mix meats and beans and beans and grains is a good one. Just make sure you are eating the right portions of those mixes.

Hope this helps!

I've been doing my own cooking for awhile. That way I know exactly what I'm shoving down my gullet. As far as protein, I buy a bag of unseasoned chicken tenders and use my own seasoning concoctions. Bake them. And them freeze them in servings of two-three in freezer bags. I also do the same when cod or salmon steaks are on sale. Except I leave them uncooked until I need them.
I usually do this on my day off for the entire week. No Sweat!

Forgot to mention fish & chicken. I really don't eat a lot of fish (although I should), but I eat a lot of chicken. I've been buying these bags of seasoned, grilled chicken strips. They're big time good! I keep 'em in the fridge at work and have a wrap with either that or turkey just about every day for lunch.

Have a GREAT Day!

Hola,
I eat beans and tofu dishes mixed with a whole grain or salad greens and vegetable like diced tomato. Low fat, good carb load, but low calorie.

I'm no nutritionist for sure, but:

#1 source for me is lean turkey.
Egg beaters is another.
And Whey protein powder is a really good one too.

Got home from work the other day and checked my intake and found that I had hardly any protein all day. So, I fixed myself a shake with fat free yogurt, some fruit, and the Whey protein powder. Fixed me right up!

Have a GREAT Day!
