We pretty much have the same routine, JAVAD. But due to a severe left shoulder impingement, my heaviest DB's are 8lbs. My PT has me do 50 crunch twists and a 3-minute 'Full Plank' for my core. I would rather ride naked on a sweaty camel, than do Plank's for my abs!! But they work! emoticon

Dredging this thread up... I have a routine that I've been doing for about a month to build up my upper-body and core. Right now I'm up to 10-lb'ers but need to get bigger DBs for my curls. Maybe this'll help you. Generally I do...

3 sets of 12 of:
- Curls
- Isolation Curls (sitting)
- Reverse Curls
- Inclined Flies
- Reverse Flies
- Seated and Standing Rows
- Chair Dips
- Tri-Extensions

For my Abs I've been doing:
- Sit Ups: 3 Sets of 12
- Crunches: 3 Sets of 12
- Crunches w/Twists: 3 Sets of 12
- Pillars 3 at 60 Seconds

Starting to really see results. Not big, but definition. After losing 50-lbs over the winter, my arms were pretty noodle-like.

You never regret the workouts that you do. You regret the workouts that you DON'T do.

If I can do it, YOU can do it!

You can do some really nice 'static curls' with 20lb DBs. Hold DBs in hands at your side, curl one forearm up until that forearm is parallel with the floor and hold it....now do a set of 12 reps full curls with the other DB. Then switch. Even with 20lbs your biceps will be crying....and so will you! Tony does these in P90X btw.

Ah... thanks for filling me in. I'm afraid of taking on too much at this point. I think I'll stick with my modest routine and settle into it for a while. The point is to make it a habit rather than a chore - at least that's my philosophy for now.

P90 is short for Power 90, which is P90X's little brother.
It's a 90 day, DVD based fitness program. Workouts are 6 days a week, alternating between Cardio/abs and Circuit training.
I really want to do P90X, but I'm just not ready for it. So P90 is the path to get there for me.
You can check all of this out at www.beachbody.com.

Have a GREAT Day!

If you can afford it, the multi-weight dumbells are the way to go.

Some good deals on db's at 'Play it Again Sports'. I use progressive resistance bands at home.

In the middle of P90, and so I'm using weights every other day. I need to get some 20 pounders too. I have some 25's and really, they're a bit much for me right now. I use the resistance bands some too.

Have a GREAT Day!

Right now I'm on the hunt for a set of 20# dumbbells to use for curls, rowing, and what I vaguely remember called flys (on back on a bench, slight bend in the elbows and lifting the weights from below the chest on both sides, up till they touch above my chest). It's a bit of muscle building but more muscle toning for the upper body. Anyone else using weights?
