What's happening AROUET!?!

Lower Body workouts have always been my most rewarding workouts. Yes, we all like the upper body definition, but as you mentioned the lower body is key to supporting a lot of the upper body success.

I always find myself huffing and puffing after each set of DB squats or DB lunges.

ZORD55, I mainly do lower body exercises along the lines of Body for Life schedule:

DB Squats 12 reps
DB Squats 10 reps
DB Squats 8 reps
DB Squats 6 reps
DB Squats 12 reps
SUMO Squats 12 reps

DB Alternating Legs Lunges 12 reps
DB Alternating Legs Lunges 10 reps
DB Alternating Legs Lunges 8 reps
DB Alternating Legs Lunges 6 reps
DB Alternating Legs Lunges 12 reps
DB Deadlifts 12 reps

DB Angled Calf Raises 12 reps
DB Angled Calf Raises 10 reps
DB Angled Calf Raises 8 reps
DB Angled Calf Raises 6 reps
DB Angled Calf Raises 12 reps
One Leg calf Raises 12 reps

Ab exercise #1, 5 sets of 12 reps
Abs exercise #2, 1 set of 12 reps

I've more or less used this routine since 1998 whenever I am strength training. 1 minute intervals between reps and you're done within 55 minutes.

I hear ya guys here. Any particular exercises you can recommend outside of walking/running?

And with me, I get noticable results faster with my legs. I just started walking/running last week, and my wife is already talking about the definition gains in my legs.

In addition-the legs are big muscles. The recovery from a workout on a big muscle group like that burns calories for a long time after your workout is done!

I hear that, and what more fun then a 6 mile run to build up some, and burn the calories

Ok, another tidbit that makes sense to me. When you're starting back into getting in shape after gaining a lot of weight: focus on the legs. We're carrying around a lot of pounds: the stronger your legs are, the easier everything else gets: like going up and down stairs. But beyond the specifics, strong legs makes it much easier to carry our loads. I'm not saying ignore the upper body, just give the legs some extra attention!
