Inspiring family: Yes and no. My immediate family has jumped on board. It did take them 2 years to do so but eventually they came around to their lack of options I provide and have taken on a new appreciation of being healthy. My hubby has lost 50 lbs (in 2 months... men stink lol) and my 7 yr old knows all about nutrition and can school me now lol. My 14 yr old daughter is still pretty anti-anything-mom-does but she doesn't have a choice =) My 4 yr old doesn't know any different and is a very healthy eater.

For my extended family, my mom has definitely been inspired to get healthier but she struggles with putting herself first and tends to make bad choices. All 3 of my sisters are on board. My aunts, uncles & cousins have all attempted but never stick to any of it. Bottom line, they just aren't ready to do their part. It frustrates me because, of course, I want my loved ones to be around for a long time and that means they need to get healthy. I could help them but no more than they are willing to help themselves and decide to change.

Happiness - great question!
Happiness comes from within and is nothing more than the choice to appreciate all of your blessings more than you focus on the garbage in life. I've also learned that being a blessing to others by encouraging them, helping them and making them feel better about themselves is VERY rewarding! To simplify: to put a smile on your face, reach out to put a smile on someone else's.

Jen ~

You mentioned that you are the smallest in your family. Has your weight loss inspired other members of your family to want to lose some weight and live a healthier lifestyle?

How do you define "happiness"??

Thanks Chery (stillout2lunch) for my hardest question yet! lol

Advice for other moms:
1. Learn to throw food away! I think many moms struggle with finishing the kids food of their plate and mostof the time, that is our meal. Make time for you. When our bodies are well nourished, we have more energy and aren't as crabby. It DOES pay in the end
2. Eat breakfast, lunch AND dinner (and snacks if you're hungry in between) Since we aren't going to eat off our kids plates anymore, we have to take time to make us healthy meals. This is the main reason I started with the Herbalife protein shakes, it takes 30 seconds for my breakfast to get ready. Another quick option would be plain greek yogurt (or cottage cheese) with fruit.
3. Include your kids in your exercise. That can be riding bikes, playing ball or if they're still young, throw them around in the air or hang out at a park. One of my favorite ideas I've heard (from you) is follow the leader during commercials. Let your kids use their imagination to dance, skip, hula hoop or whatever during commercials and you have to copy them. Gets everyone moving during tv time instead of just vegging. AND you're starting them on great habits

Favorite movies: I like tear jerker chic flicks.... The Notebook, Pearl Harbor, Titanic and others like that. Also love Dirty Dancing and The Proposal. Not a huge movie watcher... maybe because all my movies make me cry lol

Favorite TV shows: I'm horrible at watching TV. With 3 young kids it's always interupted then I'm grumpy and mad. So, most of my shows are the vh1/mtv trash; jersey shore, teen mom (I was a teen mom), so you think you can dance.... it's just on while I go to sleep. I DO DVR American Idol and Big Brother. Sad James is gone (and I'm not a metal girl) and hoping for Hailey to win it!

I know you have 3 children and it must be hard to eat healthy and find time to exercise with so many family obligations. Any advice for young moms out there who are struggling with these types of problems?

Non related, what are your favorite movies and TV shows?

Thank You!

How do I handle it when the scale doesn't reflect my efforts?

Great question and such an important thing to be prepared for!! Reality is, the scale isn't always going to reflect our efforts. Especially, as women, we are guaranteed at least once a month we aren't going to be happy =) My answer: BIG PICTURE! Getting skinny isn't an overnight experience but getting healthy can be. Take pride in ALL of your achievements in a positive statement.... I had 5 fruits/veggies today, I drank my water, my knees don't hurt anymore, I sleep SO good.... acknowledgements of the good stuff as opposed to; I didn't eat the cake, I didn't have 2 servings, I didn't_________. Negative wording, even for what can be positive achievements, actually put your brain in a negative state, making you feel deprived. So, when the scale doesn't move (or even worse, moves UP); I'm ok with it because I'm greatful for all of the signs I see that show me I'm heading in the right direction.

Also, measurements! Sometimes we lose inches and not lbs.

And lastly, think about what you've eaten in the 24 hours prior. If I gain 2 lbs overnight, I know logically, that's impossible (unless I went over my calories by 7,000). When that happens, I know it's either my monthly visitor or I had high sodium or high sugars within that 24 hours. That said, I am a big fan on weighing at least every 3 days to stay accountable and on track.

Hi Jen! I just want to say you're a huge inspiration for me, and your current picture looks amazing! My question is, how do you handle it when the scale doesn't reflect the work you put in? Have a great day!

Keeping motivated:

1. SP - I love reading all of the motivational blogs, they really help me keep things in perspective. We all have a choice, to eat a doughnut or a healthy breakfast, to vege in front of the computer or go walking, to drink my water or not, ect. Success lies within each of us and those who have succeeded are no better than any of us.

2. Helping others - I have to be a good example if I want to inspire others to reach their goals.

3. Books - I always have 3 books at my bedside; my bible, daily devotional, and a personal development book. I thoroughly believe in the laws of attraction and sending yourself positive messages.

4. Bikini - All else fails, when I'm feeling tempted, I throw on my bikini so I have a constant reminder of what it is I'm working towards.

My dream vacation.... ths is a fun one:

I'm a true Floridian and love anywhere there is a beach, sun and a cabana boy! lol Honestly, I'm just as happy at Daytona Beach as I'd be in Hawaii, the Carribbean or anywhere else. I am an Herbaife independant distributor and they reward us yearly with paid vacations. I truely love all of the people I work with, I jokingly say our meetings are happier than Disney lol So, my "dream vacation" would be to earn the tropical vacation with them. I think a great vacation is more about the people you are with as opposed to where you are. Plus it helps that they also give $1000 spending money lol

How did you find SparkPeople? I started with the iphone app for logging my food and fitness. Then Cheryl (stillout2lunch) recommended that I join the groups. I actually run local weight loss challenges so I love having SP as a tool for us to stay connected throughout the week

How did you choose your SparkPeople ID? First name, Last initial and my birth date.... 5/6/78

What are your weight loss goals? Well, I've met half my goal once; lost 90 lbs going from 225 to 135lbs and from a sz 22 to a sz 2 over 2 years ago. Winter got the best of me (McDonald's caramel mocha coffee to be specific lol) and I put on 15 lbs (3-5 coffees per day is NO BUENO!) Now, my current goal is to take off those 15 and include fitness to tone up (I lost all 90 lbs without exercise)

What was your breaking moment, that made you say, you have to loose weight or else?
Disgust. Not really sure if I had a specific breaking moment. I've always been disgusted with myself but at 225 and the smallest one in my family, I had just accepted that I'd never be small it was "in my genes" I was "big boned" and I was "over 30". A friend of mine hosted a weight loss challenge with a cash jackpot. As a stay at home mom, I could use cash so I knew if anything was going to motivate me to stay committed (other than results) was cash. I joined the challenge, was introduced to Herbalife and my weight just fell off (and yes, I won the jackpot). If it weren't for the fast results, I probably would've quit. It wasn't that I didn't care, it was just easier to pretend I didn't, than to face failure again.

What is a dream vacation for you?

The power to change, the courage to do, the will and drive to be exceptional lies within me, and by leaving my fears, my doubts, and my excuses behind, I embrace all that lies within me.
