Honestly, I've found that formula isn't high enough either...well, at least according to my 'perceived exertion'.

the problem with the article for me though is that i have a polar ft60 and i set it to be on the weight loss track and i didn't lose weight because it was not a high enough intensity for me. it had me mostly planned for zone1 activity.

I found 3 HR zone calculator's that will provide calculations for all the HR zones based on your... they all have great features, but me and other team members think that "no. 3" is more accurate, but you decide for yourself:

1.) age
2.) weight
3.) sex
4.) resting heart rate

2.)

3.)Here is another calculator based on:

- Age
- Resting HR
- lower training zone
- upper training zone

... all you have to know is your information and what the lower/upper heart rate percentages are for each of the 5 zones...
