My bins look like that after our ICS throws boxes in them to kill pallets. I always have mine inventory ready ano other time.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Last night they decided to change all the bins around in the stockroom. The point of this was supposed to be to move the hanging fashion out of a high traffic area. Well I came in this morning and lo and behold, fashion is still in the same spot. They did gain an extra 2 bins, somehow, and everybody else moved.
Of course, you would think when they moved the stock that they would bin it properly, right?
Nope! Boxes thrown in the bin, labels missing or boxes turned around, and nothing NCO or the same front to back. Big boxes in the front to hide the small ones in the back. and on and on. The ICS team was scratching its head this morning.
Good thing it was Friday. That's when we have free coffee and muffins at McDonald's for our morning meeting. that helped a little but not much. Aaaargh. All straightened out now, but still...
OK,whatever. Iwon't mention ICS anymore.

When I was at McDonald's we had a computer that could do the scheduling but then we were supposed to finesse it to account for personal lives, scheduling conflicts, etc. Maybe it's the same thing in this case?
I just ignore what the schedule actually says. I'm ICS team leader ATM, and my schedule says I'm supposed to be in 7:30 to 4 Monday to Friday, but my team is in 7 to 3:30. I come in the same hours as my team. It's just easier that way. No one has said boo yet.

They always say the computer does the schedule! In my opinion, they do it, but if it screws up, they got something to blame for it !!

I have had a lot of problems lately with the other cashiers in mt dept. simply wandering off. It happened on Sat. and Sun. so I went to a Co-mgr. and it worked. You just have to go over some heads. This week has been much better.

Do ya'll get told that the computer does the scheduling?? I asked for today off and it was finalized but when the schedule was posted I was on it. I asked my asst. mgr. about it and he told me he'd lost his book and didn't have it in front of him when doing the schedule. I was also scheduled 10 to 7 on a Sun. and my availability is 2 to 11.

I've been there 7 yrs. and have decided to tell 'em like it is.

My store does not cut hours. My store manager lets people who have a lot of call-ins (unexcused absences), don't do their job, etc, go instead. He feels that he should not cut the hours of associates who show up on time every day they are scheduled and pull their weight.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Up here, we're a little lucky in that respect because they are opening up supercentres all around Ontario so if you want extra hours, you just ask to go help out one of the other stores for anywhere from 5 days to 4 weeks. Their labour dollars come out of a different budget and since it's the new store paying you, your old store gets to cut hours without you feeling the crunch. I just got back from Brampton, ON, about 30minutes from Toronto, where I spent 5 days helping them straighten out their back room. Got a cool new tattoo while I was down there too! ;-)

The only thing frustrating about the store im working in right now is that they have cut the hours so much. Sometimes I wonder how we're going to survive.

20 skids of tropical plants in one day! Why do I need to receive 20 skids of tropicals on the first real day of snow this winter? Really!!
What a rough day! Everyone take pity on the garden centre/seasonal dept and go buy a nice plant! Get them out of receiving, please! ;-)

That sounds like fun being able to do the remodel with a friend of yours. I am sure you can still pick healthy choices with the money you are allowed to spend on your meals. I would use up every penny too.

Plus, one of the co-workers going with me happens to be my best friend, and she's a runner. So I'm sure she'll be kicking my butt to get to the gym, since neither of us know the area and would probably get lost going for a jog. emoticon
Following my eating plan might be a little tougher, with being on an expense account. We get $29 a day for food, which breaks down to about $5 for breakfast, $8 for lunch and $14 for supper. But if you don't claim your breakfast and lunch money you can't spend $29 for supper. Think I'll be spending some time in the pantry section of the store. Hope the room has a fridge!

The people I know that helped with store setups all liked it very much. I doubt you will have enough energy to go to the gym afterewards. I believe they work long hours.

Ok! Not a job frustration, but...
I get to go to another store to hlp with store setup!! Yay!! I'm only going for 5 days (babysitting issues, hubby's job issues, yada, yada) but it is still 5 days in a hotel with my friends! Whee!
This will be fun! And I will force myself to go to the gym in the hotel every day... really I will!

We never know when our District Manager will pop in. His office is aobut 10 miles away from us and he shows up unannounced.

What gets me is when they go crazy because someone from HO is supposed to arrive in our area. Very rarely do they come to our store but the pressure is on to make everything look good.

What a day today was! Why does the district manager always decide to visit when you are cleaning up from a sale? Ours seems to like to visit one or two days following Annversay, Boxing week, etc. Our outdoor compound was full of fixtures from islands, 4 ways, gondolas, etc, and at 3PM management decides it needs to be cleaned up (out of sight out of mind) before we go home so the Dist Mgr doesn't see it. Sheesh. I'm pooped!

Irishlass, I understand where you are coming from. I was a cashier for 6 months and that was long enough. With the medication I am taking I can't wait to go to the bathroom when told. When nature calls, I have to answer. It was a good thing that I got along well with the CSMs. On the other hand, this kind of relief/understanding should be available to all.

When I was on courtesy desk, we used to page for customers on the P.A.
"Attention Wal-Mart shoppers, for your convenience the courtesy desk is now accepting small purchases of 1 to 12 items. Once again, small purchases of 1 to 12 items can be made at the courtesy desk located at the front of the store. Thank you."
Nobody would come over of course, but at least when I paged it kept the CSMs and asst managers off my back.

Is it the head cashier or the frontend assistant that is expecting you to do those duties? I would probably try for another position too.

How long have you worked at Courtesy?

Our Courtesy Desk sounds a lot easier than yours...you should transfer!! The Fitting Rooms answers the phones, Registers 17 and 18 are the only places to buy cigarettes and Courtesy just does their job there.

But I know how you feel. I use to work in Shoes and at first loved it, but started to hate it after 2 1/2 years. But I couldn't quit. 2 1/2 years is a long time for me to invest in a job and if I kept going, that would be best. Besides, I needed the money.

But here are some tips if you're not already doing them:
-Always take your breaks and lunches
-Don't talk about work when on break or lunch...that's your time for anything except work
-Start looking for something in the store you'd like to be and work towards that goal (CSM, DM, Asst. Mgr. and so on...)
-Use the open door...tell your boss how you feel, give him suggestions that might make your job easier. That's what he's there for.
-Call 1-800-Walmart to give suggestions
-Don't work over time. Do your duties and go home. You may like the money, but if you hate your job, you need the time away from it.
-Do what you can when you're at work. Your boss's expectations may be too high, but you are only one person and can only do so much. Do your best and be proud of what you accomplished that day.

I've learned that once you've been doing something for so long, it gets boring and irritating. Keep things interesting by learning something new. That's the road I took. I was presented the opportunity to go from Shoes Associate to Loss Prevention Associate and I took it as fast as they'd let me!! I loved my job again. I was learning something new.
Move up in the business...some day you could take your "I'm not threatening you..." boss's job!!! Isn't that a thought!!

"The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don''t want, drink what you don''t like, and do what you''d rather not.

Hey I totally understand where your coming from. I used to work service desk and well one day my friend and I who were up there were like you know screw it lets just stick it to them. So we both stepped down and went over night. So the management was then left with a bunch of slow people up there who didnt really know what there were doing. So I totally know what you mean and I know how frustrating it can be but maybe you just need a change cause service desk gets to you. Either way best of luck and hope something good happens for you.

This has been a real sucky week. My boss called each of us from the service desk out and said that we need to start bening more customer focused. Like we are not already doing that. He wants us to go out and get a customer take them to the service desk and take care of them. It doesn't matter that we are the only ones that answer phones and do returns as well as sell cigs and do all the floor returns. I don't have a problem with that, but when he says "I'm not threatening you or anything" (this is the second time he has used those words to some of us)that is where I have the problem. If any of you have ever worked in retail and dealt with customer service, you know what I mean. I am feeling overwhealmed and the only way I can deal with the day is to shut down emotionaly and compartmentalize things. When I get home I shut myself up and just want to cry all the time. I used to like my job but now I am starting to hate my job, but I don't have the option of quitting. I really don't like crying all the time, but that is what I do.
