Everyone know the squirrel in the movie Over the Hedge? Well that's my Store Manager. We actually had a T-shirt made of his famous sayings. He kills the overtime if at all possible. I'm liking the extra hours helps pay for Christmas.

Last week we were aloud overtime but this week we are not. So when they offer OT I take advantage of it. They dont really coach us over it unless you are a repeat offender. They just tell us dont do it again.

Are you getting OT? In our store it takes an act of congress to get overtime. A co-worker of mine got coached because she went over on two consecutive weeks, both of them did not even total an hour.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Yes, I survived too. I'm finally back on a normal sleep pattern. I was at work at 4:30 a.m. I'm getting lots of extra hours so I have not been able to respond to many subjects. What kind of administrator am I? A busy one!!

We are so understaffed that it is pittiful. We are still hiring cashiers. We only have 3 cos's (csm) and 2 of those also work other jobs. At service desk we are ususally short by 1 if not 2 people. Our team lead will schedule himself and then as soon as someone shows up he is out of there to go do "paperwork". Like if he opens, he will schedule a 9:00 person and then he is gone until we are so swamped that we have to page him. Our Business manager is about as bad. I don;t know what tomorrow holds... I can only immagine it will be ugly. When they are slammed on the front end the floor partners are called up and then members can't find anything or need help then we have to try to get a manager to help. Several mamagers have even been having to cos(csm) at times when breaks need done.

I don't know how many cashiers we have. Lately we are doing quite a bit of linerushing during the day.

A couple of days before Black Friday, Department Managers usually have to sign up for certain jobs during Black Friday. Linerushing, runner for the locked cases in electronics, maintenance of the pallets (replace empty ones with full ones, condensing pallets), carry-outs and bringing in carts. That system has usually worked well for us.

Of course our day starts with flagging everything after we bring in the pallets and then watching the pallets of certain items so that the customers don't shop them before the start of the sale. We very seldom get to work in our own area unless we have a customer service area.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

We have a total of probably 80-90 cashiers but that is still not enough. We call people of the floor and managers but half of the time they never come up. But I am hoping things will get better. Off to work I go. Talk to you later.

We've been working on hiring cashiers. We are so short on cashiers. A couple weeks ago, our grand total of cashiers was 35. Last week there were days in the morning that there were only 3 cashiers on registers...so we call people off the floor and assistant managers to the registers. But we're getting some in, so that's good.

With Thanksgiving only 2 weeks away people are getting ready for that and the day after. I am supposed to work from 5-2 but I have a feeling it will be longer than that because they havent hired any christmas help.

Well Thanksiving here is always the second Monday in October (Oct 9th this year) so any increase in sales are usually due to people gearing up for Halloween I guess. The week before Thanksgiving we had the Anniversary Sale. So it's hard to tell. I've never heard of any day called Blitz Day or Black Day here.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Blitz Day is what Wal-Mart calls it. People call it Black Friday because it's the one day of the year that all sales are in the black, none in the red.
Does Canada have Blitz the day after Thanksgiving? November 24 is Blitz.

I work from 4am to 4pm that day....and there is one thing I want on Blitz, so I am going to ask someone who plans on shopping to get it for me!

I don't think we have that in Canada. What's it all about? Is Black Friday in reference to Remembrance Day (Nov 11)? Or something else?
