I want to wish everybody a happy new year.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

I had a great Christmas and ate way too much. I am actually looking forward to be going back to work tomorrow. Hopefully I can do some damage control before I go on the scale on Saturday.

So about the challenge... I didn't fall of the wagon. I threw myself off! Actually I have done more exercise than I normally would, and eaten a lot healthier, but what with my wild schedule at Wal-Mart and the stuff i was trying to accomplish at home, lots fo stuff fell to the side. I also haven't really done any sewing since the beginning of December (I'm a quilter, or I try to be...)
SO I didn't gain any weight, lost a 1/4 inch on my waist and did squeeze in some exercise (mostly strength training, I hate cardio!).
Now I'm at my parents house. I plan to walk a lot. I'm only here for three days. Hoping NOT to gain 15lbs like usual. Sigh.

Des,
I consider painting a room exercise. You stretch, bend and squat/kneel repeatedly.

So day one is almost over and so far I've entered my food in to Spark. There's still some time before bed to sneak in some cardio, and hopefully I won't want to eat after.
How's everyone else doing?

I have been slacking a little bit do to our shortage of people at work and being busy and having to run around for 8 hours. But I really need to get back on track. So...
My challenges are going to be

1. not eat after 8pm.
2. eat more veggies and fruits
3. do my exercises daily

I thought of another goal, so I am going to post it.

I have this really cute blue velvet dress that I wore a couple of years ago for valentines day dinner. I want to be able to get into that dress again. It is a size 8 and I am about an 18 right now. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I can do this. I just need to stop eating all the time.

My big challenge is to not snack after dinner. I have always been a mucher and I have managed to go to 3 meals a day, but in the evening I want to snack. Also up at the service desk we often have candy stashed up there. That is a hard temptation to resist. I don't have a problem with drinking water. I usually dring 3 or 4 liter bottles of water a day.

Ok, so it's just a bit more than six weeks til Christmas day, the perfect length for a challenge.
I say we all think about what we want to challenge ourselves with, post them here by Sunday Night, and then start Monday morning. Sound good?

For me, I challenge myself to :
1. Not eat after my daughter goes to bed (usually about 8PM)
2. Track my calories EVERY day, not just my water
3. Do my cardio 3 times a week.

Next?

I tried curves a few years ago, but with there werid hours I hardly could find the time to go. They gave wal-mart employees a great deal and it was working for me, but they were hardly open to fit my schedule. I am working out at home for now, I am thinking about joining a gym but havent decide yet.

i tried that route about two years ago. i joined Curves. Lots of fun, b ut both hubby and I work weird hours, and they didn't offer daycare. So the total cost of the gym and babysitter was more than I cared to pay.
Now I have a set of hand weights, a few tapes, and a stroller to take the princess on long walks. If only it wasn't so cold... ;-)

I've heard that the TaeBo work out is excellent. I actually considered getting it before I joined a gym. I need the motivation to excersize since I am alergic to exercising lol, the money deducted from my bank account is good motivation. If I am going to have money taken out, I darn well had better be using the gym.

J,
is the Tae Bo like kick boxing? I don't think I am balanced well enough to do that.

You sure have a long way to drive. I hate driving and only live 10 minutes away from the store.

We had a snow storm in our area. Where I live, it quit snowing in the afternoon. But north, west and east from us they caught it bad. A lot of areas are without electricity and a lot of facilities were closed including two Wal-Mart Supercenters.

We were open but I would say about half of the associates called in. We were constantly called to the registers and to line rush. The store manager pulled pallets to get the dance floor ready for the trucks. Today he did not get much time to spend in his office.

I won a t-shirt from SP today.

I work 7-4 then have to hang around town until 5:30 to pick up my husband. I walk at work before I have to pick him up. I found a great workout with Tae Bo with Billy Blanks . I just got two of them from work. They give you a workout but you fill good after. Some days I don't want to workout but then on the 45 min drive home I start thank about it and then a workout after dinner. You can start with the one that shows you the basic steps. It also burn a lot of calories. Good luck.

Wow, walking to the store and carrying your daughter is a pretty good workout. How old is she? She is a very cute princess.

Pretty sure that's not gonna happen. I start at 6:30 AM and have a half hour commute to work. About 8 days a month I have to drop my daughter off at the sitter's before work. So that would mean getting up about 4AM or 4:30AM to do my exercise. Yeah, no. Thanks, but no. I'll take my chances with sticking to it after work. I'm off at 3:30PM, usually home by 4:30PM including picking up the princess at the sitter's, etc. So I could sneak in a walk before supper if I could somehow motivate myself.
Strength training is not as much of a chore I find. Maybe cuz the results are more visible. You can see the muscles are a little pumped after strength training. Not much to see but sweat after cardio, if I pushed myself right.
I'll just have to keep trying. I did walk to the store today. only about 15 min with a 3 year old in tow. But it's 15 min at least. And I had to carry her for part of the way. So that's 40lbs right there. It's a start.

Mimi,
I understand what you are talking about. Sometimes I think that all the exercise at work helps me with my weight loss. My doctor tells me though that it does not count because it does not raise your heart beat. You can tell that the man never worked for Wal-Mart. emoticon

I am a department manager and work the early day shift. Sometimes I try to sneak in a 10-15 minute brisk walk during lunch time. At home I try to do about 15 minutes worth of strenghth exercises listed on the Spark pages 3 times a week. I have a stationary bike that I try to use at least 5 times a week for 10-15 minutes. By the way, I HATE exercising!!!

Maybe it will help you if you try to do some exercises before you go to work. Some folks do it right after they get up before they take their morning shower.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

I agree with you that one main topic/thread would be nice.

My main challenge is finding the motivation to exercise. Usually by the time I'm ready or motivated enough to exercise it's late in the evening and time for bed. Going for a walk/jog at 10PM is not my cup of tea. I have a treadmill, but no basement, and the treadmill is rather noisy. Hard to hear the tv or radio when it's on, so using that at night is out, as I have a three year old who needs sleep.
Since I work ICS, I'm not too worried about cardio. I usually feel I've gotten a pretty good workout by the end of the day. But a few of my friends jog,and it would be nice to be able to keep up with them someday.
If we do a challenge, could we have it include exercise of some kind? Preferably cardio, as that is my weak spot.
Thanks!

I am not doing well with challenges. My challenge at the moment is to drink the 8 cups of water. It is easy when it is hot outside, but a challenge now.

Can we just have one topic where we post most of our stuff? I can see a separate topic for the introduction, but I think we should have one topic where we all can meet and exchange ideas, support each other and maybe even vent about our favorite place. What do you think?

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.
