Our management team must be running a tighter ship. We are not allowed to leave carts of merchandise for the next shift. There are always some exceptions to the rule but they are stressing this over and over that you check customer service for returns and put them away before your shift ends.

I called our store manager "old eagle eye" several times because when he walks the store, there seems to be nothing that he misses. He expects perfection and our stress level is pretty high at times.

He has now come up with a point system for the assistants. They collect points for us having late CBLs, 30-60-90 plans not up to date, missing or wrong signing, lack of cleanliness, back room issues, etc. etc. I was not at the department meeting today when that was discussed, but it means that they will lose hours off depending on the negative points. For positive points they will get extra hours off.

Can you imagine how that will affect us? We are already trying to fit 8 hours work into a 6-hour shift. Do you guys spend a whole hour on "all hands on deck"? We do every afternoon and then we have to blitz problem areas for an hour in the morning.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Wolfgirl I know what you are talking about. Before I became a dpt. Manager I use to work 2nd shift and 3rd shift and I know what is going on. Now I feel like I am the only one that know how to zone and put away returns in my area most of the time.I listen to the everyone complaine about everyone else. I try to talk to them but I feel like I am not being heard. So I can only do what I can.

Hang in there my fellow WalMart ee'sThe Moral is down at our store as well, especially on 3rd shift. The MS's are wearing the usual tan and blue. The assistants have to dress up. We are short handed on the night shift and day shift is still crying stuff isnt getting done and I just want to say "come work with us overnight. And you will see that we work like dogs to get the stuff stocked and UNPLUGGED, because that is all you do and we zone the whole store which y'all don't do and the list goes on. Everytime I go in there during the day y'all are standing around doing nothing!" I got so angry the other night I refused to put away the 2nd shift returns. And I will continue to do that. I will take it right back up to customer service. We recently got a new assistant that worked days who is now understanding what is going on. So, even though moral is way down maybe she can get the rest on board and moral will go back up. As far as layoffs--doubt it especially with an 18% in sales company wide that we had over the holidays. WMT isnt going anywhere and they are not going to let their good people go that willingly--I tried and I was talked out of it.

Oh my our CSMs don't have to do that. Just managment. But us dept. managers are pulled every where. We have to do our dept. ring registers push carts and what ever else the fell like putting us. We wish there was a line at the hiring computer. We are so short handed it isn't funny.

Kimmie,
I am glad that your son is doing well.

Like you, I worry a lot about my job a lot. It seems whenever there is a change, it never really benefits us.

The latest change is that our CSMs have to wear slacks, blouses and dress shoes just like management. A lot of them don't have the funds to buy a new wardrobe again. It makes no sense that they can't wear athletic shoes with all the walking they do. Does that same rule apply in your store?

Last friday they even had a line at the hiring center with people waiting for their turn at the computer. The economy is so bad right now that folks didn't mind the wait like they do at the registers.

Monica they don't need to be concerned about us because we are so replaceable. It is very sad.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

Sorry I haven't been on for a while my son had surgery and he is doing great I have been on and off the site. I really hope things change for the best here soon because even us department managers are worried about our jobs. Yes it seems like not only managers but everyone is more crabby about all these changes. I don't know what to say or think any more about the changes. I really hope something good comes around soon.

My store is kind of the same way. The managers are not on the same level with each other and yet they all seem crabby. One of the biggest differences I've noticed lately is the lack of interest in the well being of associates. It sucks.

I agree with you Kimmie. Our store manager seems to be on the road a lot troubleshooting in other stores. The Assistants are getting more and more responsibilities along with the pressures. The work schedules are just crazy. The associates feel like pawns and resent the fact that they have to have several job codes in order to get FT hours so that they can pay their living expenses. What is HO thinking?

Why don't we read about the CEOs and other high end folks having their bonuses cut when the economy is bad? It is a shame when their bonuses are higher than their salary or even equal to and the small folks who actually "make" the company can't cover all of their living basics on their income.

OK, I getting down from my soap box now.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

I think the morale is down all over because the pressure is on. It comes all the way down from HO. My Assistant walked around like a chased rooster with that wild look in his eyes. I tried to stay out of his way.

The sales are soft now because people are more careful with their money and somehow they like to blame it on us. We don't stock enough, we don't smile enough, we don't approach the customers enough and walk them to the merchandise, etc. etc. You may have missed this a lot because you were out of the store setting up stores elsewhere.

I used to come in to work, singing and looking forward to the day. I haven't done that in a long time.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

As a matter of fact it has sunk like a lead balloon around my store... I used to love my job, but now we have had major management changes, and it seems like our best workers are all just dragging them selves in to work these days....I have been out of store w/ store planning, and just want to go back to that, my own store is so depressing, new manager never smiles, and seems to take the tact that bullying is how to get what she wants done... new assistant manager is another stiff never smile type.... I do my work, and go home, once it was fun, now???? uggg... I want to find my ambition!! at least customers see a smile... but it feels fake....
