I hear you and I have been there. I am currently getting back on track myself.

But they are right. The book The Spark teaches you to start out with small goals. Once you see you can do small goals you can do bigger goals. The drinking water and walking is perfect. Just do it day by day, then week by week. That is streaking. I know you can do it and I am glad you came and asked for help.

This journey is hard and a slow process. We will make mistakes but just keep on going on the right track. Reward yourself when you complete a goal.

I am proud of you!

Thank you everyone for the responses! I've decided the first thing I will make as a goal is to drink more water. I noticed that I'm not really drinking a lot of fluids in general so water will be my first priority.

I'm definitely looking forward to the group meet-ups when the weather warms up and plan to participate. I'll check-in with the local schools and find out what their policies are about using the tracks. My neighborhood actually has quite a few hills so maybe I should start doing those when walking the dog on days I'm not walking with Lori.

Thank you again everyone! I feel inspired now that I have a small goal set.

No one can lose weight for you. No excuse in the world is acceptable for not eating well, drinking water and doing some form of exercise.

Kendra, we all need help. That is why we are here. I'm glad you asked for help because this is what this team is all about. I don't live in Front Royal either but I see Lori is. Walking is a great start. The first thing I did was exactly that. The key is to be doing anything that gets you off the couch and moving. I also find that staying active on the site keeps you accountable. You are more successful when you know others are keeping tabs on you (and you keeping tabs on us as well). I'm not sure if either of the new high schools allow you to walk on the track if it is enclosed. I know this is the case at the Middle School.

I would start slow and work on a couple things at a time. Drink more water and eliminate something that you deem a bad habit (soda, chips, junk food). This worked for me. If a track is not available, hit the streets in your neighborhood. I also plan to post some group events in the area so that we can all meet up somewhere and do walks or runs (when the weather gets better).

Hi! I'm glad you felt comfortable asking for help here! I'm in Winchester, so it'd be really hard to be a walking buddy...however, to answer your other question...

I started off getting back into being active by doing something I really liked, swimming. Once I felt good in the pool, I moved on to the ellipticals. Then I started doing spin classes and slowly added in aerobics and pilates. I kept building from there and started working with a personal trainer. I go to the wellness center in Winchester, which while it is a gym, it doesn't feel like one. I'm getting to know the people who go there in my classes and stuff. Everyone is really nice and I feel like there is no judgement really.

Good luck and let us know what works for you. You can do this, and we are all rooting for you to get back on track!!!

Hi Kendra.. 1st off.. there is no shame in asking for help. All of us are or were at some point in the same boat. We all need to get healthy for whatever reason we have. I live in Front Royal too.. Do they allow people to walk the track at middle school? I always thought of that but havnt been there aside from doing relay for life once. Running.. Im not there yet, but a walking partner.. I would love it. Im more of a wobbler at this point but its better than nothing huh? We can figure out the walking thing later on.. I am a curves member, but not as if I cant use extra walking. Meantime.. dont be a stranger .. The best part of sparks is its a no judgement zone. Welcome back!!

Sigh. It is so difficult for me to admit to needing help because I'm so used to doing things on my own and succeeding so it's hard to grasp the fact that I am just not successful at weight loss anymore. It used to be easy to stay motivated.

I love the fact that there's a local Spark group, yet, the moment I signed up, I disappeared and am just now coming back.

Can anyone out there tell me the first thing they did, consistently, to loose weight? Does anyone who lives IN Front Royal want a workout buddy? I prefer to skip gyms (for now) and maybe meet to run at a local school track (maybe start off running one, walking one, etc...) or even just walking downtown or something to get me outside and on the correct path.
