There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.
When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And
maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world
Breathe in love & compassion.. Breathe out peace & forgiveness.

It has long been a theory of mine that when some people start something that they're passionate about, they try to do too much, get discouraged and quit before they can reap the benefits... they quit!

I know through experience that before I had Spark people and the amazing support group on my side I tried to do everything myself. I walked blindly through... day by day and when things got tough... I hid in snack food, junk food and comfort food! There was no support for me!

I got discouraged! There were people that would point at me and say nasty things... calling me a pig and other assorted hurt me things that made me turn to food even more! You see... I had a working relationship with my food. I took comfort in food and food looked after me making me feel better

I had lots of friends that understood me... friends that understood... They were Chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake, chocolate bars... yes chocolate was my best friend but I also had chips, dip, pop, meatloaf, pork rinds, nuts, and bacon bacon bacon... (even chocolate covered bacon...yum)

But when my Doctor pulled me aside after doing some tests and told me that If I didn't quit abusing my body I would be dead in 6 months then it hit me... finally... I would be dead in 6 months. I was 330 pounds, I was diabetic, I had an enlarged heart from birth, my knees were failing, my ankles were always hurting, I was having a hard time breathing... and now the choice had to be made... Do I want to live or do I want to die? Naturally... I wanted to live!

How then would I turn this screwed up body into that lean mean machine? Who would I turn to? Luckily my Doctor put me in touch with a support group from the University of Calgary. I joined the support program and learned that it's near impossible to do on your own. I was introduced to other doctors, nutritionists, nurses, personal trainers, and other support groups. This is when I was introduced to SPARK PEOPLE. Spark people became my lifeline, my main source of knowledge for my research (The university and internet being a close second) All of the friends on Spark people replaced all of my food friends... soon I was losing weight at the proper rate... eating good quality food, logging my food consumption, water consumption, exercise routine and becoming the person that I wanted to be... Fit!

I'm not quite there yet, but I do have about 40 pounds to go and it still is coming off slowly! Has it been a struggle?... YES but It's been a learning experience. Knowledge is Power and I was feeling great about myself again! all it took was small steps forward, learning as I went, Being with those who had done it before, being around the people who's information, courage and friendship helped me save my life! and I did it... one step at a time! I didn't try to do it all at once!

Remember...Everyone who gets where they are had to begin where they were. Your opportunity for success is right in front of you. Don't let the little things get in the way of your goals... don't let excuses stop your new lifestyle and make you revert back to the old ways! Don't let others tell you that you'll never be able to do it!... Because you can do it! You can make it and you will make it... You control your destiny... nobody else!.This is why I surround myself with positive people... People who have been there and done it and are now giving me the encouragement to continue in my ground breaking journey to the "New Me"

To attain success or to reach your goal, don't worry about having all the answers in advance. You just need to have a clear idea of your goal and move toward it. Between you and your support group you will be able to work towards success... it may not be as fast as you want it but the progress will be there. I want you to remember something... your weight didn't magically appear over night... it took years and years of eating and in some cases abuse (Like for me) to get the weight on... Don't expect that it will fall off over night! If it took years to put on, it will probably take years to take it back off again!

Here's a tip: Don't procrastinate when faced with a difficult problem. Tackle it head on and face it... you have to take that first step in order to continue walking in your new lifestyle! Break your problems into parts and handle one part at a time. If you try to do too many things, it will become overwhelming to you and you may end up quitting. If you ever start to feel this way remember... return to your support group before it's too late. They will help you get back on track! SPARK PEOPLE is the best support group that I know!

ALWAYS Develop a tendency toward action. You can make something happen breaking your big plan for success into small steps and take the first step right away.

Success starts with a first step.

Your chance for success is in front of you right now! You control what goes past your lips, you have control as to what exercise you should be doing and how much, you have the control to surround you with a positive environment and support group... the choice is yours!

Mine was a matter or life and death...

I chose to LIVE!

Always remember my Friends... Be true to yourself and to your goals...
Good luck on your journey!

Until next time...
