I was in old Hull in an old house. I thought it was a big truck passing by until it lasted too long. Then I got the heck out of the building.

I was driving through Belleville on my way home when I got a text from my husband in Pickering. I stopped a short while later at the Flying J in Napanee to get some food, and read it. He said "I think we just had an earthquake here in Pickering. Please drive safely, I don't know how big it was or where." I talked to my dad, and he told me what had happened. I had no idea.

Afterwards I thought back over my drive and I think I remember when it happened, because there was one point where I thought that the wind had got particularly strong and was blowing my car around (my car is really effected by the wind because it's tall and the sides are pretty flat... we call it my sailboat.) so I still didn't know what it was at the time, but I guess I felt it a bit.

I was at work when the building started shaking. I was on the phone talking with a client in Vancouver. Managers started telling us to get out of the building since we all thought out building could be collapsing. There are workers drilling in our undergroud parking garage, so we thought they may have drilled through a support beam or something that was causing the building to shake.
I feel bad for the poor woman I was talking to on the phone, because she would not have felt the earthquake and was probably wondering why I hung up on her.

We were relaxing on the verandah of our cottage when we became aware of a rumbling sound in the distance - it grew louder and louder and then everything started to shake. At the worst of the shaking we couldn't stand without holding on to the wall but it only lasted about 20 seconds. No damage. On the way home this morning we drove through Gracefield, Quebec where there had been a lot of damage. Nothing too much was visible from the highway but the church steeple did seem to have a weird cant to it.
I'm glad all our Sparkfriends in the area are OK

It would have been nice to have been having an intimate encounter with a woman and have her think I rocked her world but alas I was alone in a trailer near Renfrew.

I was at work and we evacuated onto the street (Queen). The scary part is that no one knew where to go or what to do as an earthquake was not worked out in our emergency HR procedures. I thought - if the buildings were to fall... we would be in big trouble because there are buildings all around us at work.

My girls were home alone and I couldn't get through to them (of course the cell phone systems were overloaded as everyone was trying to figure out what was going on). They felt it too and some items fell off shelves and walls but nothing broke.

One unforgettable experience for sure!

I was at work in a strategic planning meeting with the company VPs and a CRM Specialist.

We were making "Earth shattering" decisions! LOL

It was scary when the shaking spiked in intensity. We evacuated the building for about 30 minutes then went back in. Couldn't concentrate for a while after!

I was working in the home office which is in the basement. When the basement actually shook, I knew it was an earthquake. When it kept shaking strongly, I went outdoors. Quite alarming at this intensity.

Cheers,
Catherine

I was at work, and like you, I wasn't sure what it was at the beginning. The tremors lasted a few seconds. When it continued I did question if it was an earthquake.

I was with a client doing some work, then I noticed my coworkers leave the office area and take the stairs, so I figured we may as well join them.

In all honestly, I was calm but if it would have continue and would have been worst, I don't know how I would have reacted. I've never gone through that before..

I was (and still am) at work when it happened. I run my office by myself, and there just so happens to be construction going on behind my office right now. So, I was thinking it could "possibly" be something related to the construction, but the floor, furniture and equipment was just shaking too much for it not to be an earthquake.

Oh thank heavens I am not the only one who was slower to clue in to it being an earthquake. I was sitting in the den when the whole place began to shake, I got up to look outside and the floor was shaking. It just did not seem to last long enough to be an earthquake so I thought Big Truck, or a very close thunder roll. i have felt other quakes so have no idea why I was so dense.

My dog can take almost anything but she didn't like this! Hope your puppies are fine!

Cheers Elizabeth

I had just run over to the grocery store to get something for lunch. I know late lunch.

Typilcal Canadian everyone was looking out side to see what big truck was going by. Then when stuff started to fall off the shelves we realized it was a earthquake.

The guys in my office on the 6th floor came running out of the building life death was chasing them.

This was my third and biggest quake. Expect my puppies will be glad when I get home. Sure they are upset.

Earthquake rocks Ontario, Quebec
5.5-magnitude tremor is first on 'fault line' since 1998

CBC News
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake has hit Ontario, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, with tremors reportedly felt as far away as Montreal, Boston and Cleveland.

The first tremor hit at 1:40 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Buildings in Toronto and Ottawa were evacuated in the minutes following the tremors.

Do you have footage of the quake? Send us your photos and video by clicking here. "Earthquakes across Eastern Canada are definitely rare, but we do have them," said Johanna Wagstaffe, a CBC seismologist and meteorologist.

"There are small fault lines along Lake Erie and Lake Ontario" and a "relatively active fault line that runs parallel to the St. Lawrence Valley," she said just minutes after the quake.

The last major earthquake on that fault line measured 5.4 magnitude in 1998, she said.

Office workers shaken
Kathleen Sullivan was working on the eighth floor of an office in downtown Toronto when the quake hit.

The quake was felt as far south as Windsor, Ont., along the Canada-U.S. border.

"I was just laying in bed .... and the bed just started to move side to side ... just gently," said Darren Bonnici, who lives on the 10th floor of an apartment building along the city's riverfront.

"Sort of, almost like a mother would rock a baby in a crib," said Bonnici, adding the feeling lasted for about five seconds. "I thought right away it must have been an earthquake."
