I love the phone meetings when I have a long drive. When I go to my mom's house I listen to 2-3 meeting depending on traffic.

Hi welcome

Oa.org has a place to find in person, online, phone meetings.

OA follows AA big book and steps adapted for OA. Getting a sponsor is a good place to start. Asking questions and being on this team is good too.
Welcome Kelly , grateful recovered OE

Go to bookstore.oa.org

You will, find all of our literature. I suggest

(Second edition is purple). There is also a workbook that goes with it

(Also now purple)

Any of th other books are great reading. Since you say you are/were in alanon, I’m sure you are familiar with the big book.

We use this book. If you want stories similar to the ones in the Big Book, we have one called Overeaters Anonymous

We also have daily readers and matching workbooks.
Many of these books are available in error at for Nook or Kindle

I've been doing a lot of reading about food and weight loss and diets etc and I ran across a book that is meant for drug users to prevent them from relapsing -- and I find a lot of similarties between what they're saying about drugs and what I would say about food. I overeat some foods (like a bag of potato chips maybe lasts 24-36 hours maximum -- or a dozen cookies minus one or two -- or donuts, sweet things like that) I don't overeat broccoli or soup or squash or anything 'good for you'. I guess I'm addicted to some foods, or at least addicted to using some foods inappropriately.

I'm trying to uncover 'why' and 'how' to overcome these patterns and I thought I'd ask in here -- what 'steps' do you follow in this group - is there a manual or something to follow? I was in Al-Anon (for adult children of alcoholics) so I recognize the process but I don't have any of my old books. Are there books just for overeaters? How do you work the steps - just reading? Journalling? Are there questions to walk yourself through?

There are no groups like this in my area - would there be online groups maybe?

I'd appreciate any help you could offer -thanks! emoticon
