As we are actually 11 days into 2019.... maybe we could get the Thread Title updated?!
It's cold & wintry in many parts of the country. Here are some suggestions for getting through this "season" of colds & flu bugs with better health!

Just an FYI... building / creating "good" health! emoticon

IMO the more things you do to build & support a strong immune system, the better your body will be prepared when exposed to viruses, bacteria, and other "attacks" from within & without!

* stress can cause a LOT of harm to the body! -- learning to manage it in healthy, balanced ways can definitely boost your immunity
* adequate sleep -- the body restores itself during sleep; without healthy sleep, the body will wear down quicker
* adequate nutrition -- the more one-ingredient foods one can take in (without added chemicals), the more the body can be nourished with vitamins, minerals, and fiber
* regular movement of some sort! -- Move it, or lose it!

Hubby back at work and we are getting our lives back to normal. We found out that he may like to be off from work but not sure he is ready to retire. As he said, he has an easy job, good pay and not stress. What more can you aske for. He now says another year from this December.

Hello! I just posted in the introduction forum but thought I would put something here as well.

In January I decided that I really wanted to take off some unwanted lbs and make a few changes by the time I turned 50 in April. I procrastinated as usual, but did get started before my birthday came. I was not near where I wanted to be, but I have kept at it and have lost about 25 lbs. I have about 5 lbs left, probably the hardest 5 of all.

I exercise regularly, I don't mind that. Its food that is the challenge!

I have a whole list of chores for the day as I prepare to get out of town for a week! emoticon I think my older son can help if his dad has any further health issues. Son came over 2x's this week to run the farm equipment. - (DH is better & yet worse w/ his bulging disc, lower back.) The pain is better, but the nerve issues are firing up indicating potential problems ongoing.

But, life goes on, and I'm looking forward to the time away. -- A recent Dr. phone conversation is indicating that I will need an ultra sound on my liver. The blood tests indicate something isn't functioning as it should.
Sigh! Isn't getting older fun?! emoticon

emoticon Glad you had an overall "positive" dr. visit. -- I had one today as well. emoticon The really "good" news is that my blood pressure was way better (& I'm down 20 lbs this year!).

He (the Dr.) also provided some helpful information / support. I will meet up w/ a counselor this week to work on helpful ways to manage stress w/ the goal of improving sleep. When "major" things are happening in one's living space, it can be difficult to consistently get quality sleep. So, I DANCE along, trying to find a better place to think & work from!

I am hoping that this will be the year that I make a dent. I don't have junk--I cleaned the house out pretty well after my husband died 12 years ago, but there is a lot of stuff that he accumulated. I just haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of it.

I had my annual physical today and the doctor confirmed that I am old....that was a laugh we always share because we are about 7 years apart. Aches and pains, but even though they still hurt, I feel better having confirmation that theya re really pretty minor things that should heal if I can let them.

Welcome to the month of April. Seems like as the daylight goes longer, my to-do list grows as well. Trying to clean out & re-do our house. Seems like a never-ending chore right now.

Spent 3.5 hrs hauling debris, trash, and general junk to the driveway so that the JUNK guy could haul it away! -- (There is no end to the stuff that needs to be hauled from here!)
STAGE 1 is done!! emoticon

Ack! No! Wide awake AGAIN at 4am. (2 nights in a row!) Sigh.... NOT going to just "get up" and get on w/ the day. Can't. Won't. -- Lie quietly in easy chair in living rm. Start to get cold after an hour. Decide to "borrow" DD's bed (she works nights). Slept off & on until she got home. Went back to my bed to lay quietly/rest & fell back to sleep. Sigh....

IMO, insomnia seems to feed insomnia. -- DH has had it for YEARS. But, IMO he "feeds" it by getting up and going on with his very long days. (Never addresses it. Complains constantly about it.) -- So, I'm trying to "do the work" of dealing with it. I can't improve my health if I can't sleep.

STORKBYTE - I've floated 4 times now. I recommend it on several fronts. And my son has a monthly membership & goes every week. (He has chronic pain from an auto accident.)

Here's a good link with personal info:

or

Sounds like from your description, you would likely benefit. -- My first & 3rd time were the best for different reasons. And my 4th was very therapeutic. -- Another "plus" is that many people are deficient in magnesium. The soak is a great way to naturally absorb magnesium.

SparkMail me if you have more questions. -- The first couple of times I got a Groupon. (Cut the price in half--or more which is a great way to try it out.)

So, I've been curious about floating. Tempted to try but haven't heard from anyone what it's like. I have a very stressful job and aside from the job itself, the whole work environment is stressful.

Anything is possible--except skiing through a revolving door.

The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places.

Well, it's about 1/3 through February. Spring is showing up here in the Pacific North"wet" but the rains have already eased up. emoticon emoticon
Wondering if the season will continue dry and "early".

Lots of spring flowers getting going: snow drops, hellebores, primroses, witch hazel, and the trees have buds swelling. That's one thing nice about this area: lots of color!

Sunday I will go enjoy a float tank for an hour. My body needs that stress-relief after another go-round w/ DD today. -- And I've worked hard w/ kids this week. The float tank is something to look forward to...

So many kids & adults are fighting colds & flu bugs around here. I'm getting a little paranoid about what I'm touching!
** Today a Kindergarten student sneezed out a nose-full onto his hand. He was going to wipe it under the table!!!!!
emoticon I told him to go wash up. He just ran the water. I said, "Use soap!" Then he was coming back to the table w/ his hands dripping. I said, "Dry your hands." So he grabbed a handful of Kleenex. I said, "No. Put those back. Please use paper towel." And then I found hand sanitizer w/ alcohol to sanitize the table where he sat & sneezed. ..and so it goes! (Kindergarten is NOT my calling. Thankfully, just a 30 min classrm stop.)

Yeah!! Tomorrow is Friday!

Sorry. All you can do is be there if she comes back, and wait. My daughter wasn't quite that rebellious but there was a lot of pain along the way.

I have 2 young men who have both graduated college & gone on to jobs successfully. They are out on their own and finding their way. -- Then there's this daughter who is 18 & knows it all & manages to turn all conflict around to be my fault. (I'm just the stupid mom.)

So Sunday, she began the process of "moving out". Took her first load of clothes & shoes. (I have no idea where she is headed to live.) -- She has 2 community college classes that start tomorrow & at least she paid for 1/2 the cost. -- Since Oct. she's been working 36 hrs a week and learning how to pay her way, little by little. (This is the kid that did NOT graduate H.S. because of a 1/2 credit of math..."because it's just a piece of paper" & who cares anyway??!)

So, here's to figuring out what this will look like over the next few months...

I like your "plan". emoticon I may have to get creative to keep moving. (Usually I make excuses for not exercising.)

Wish I had answers for how to resolve broken relationship w/ adult teen daughter. We had another blow-up over nothing. (I really don't want to kick her out & in to her boyfriend's bed.)
emoticon But neither do I want to put up with any more bad treatment, words, attacks, and demands.
At least I didn't refer back to my bad habit of eating my misery.

I've been taking advantage of dry weather (& not too cold) to get outside & walk. So far, I'm 4 for 4 and 9.5 miles since Sunday. Every little bit helps!

Made a "new" dish tonight w/ quinoa. As always, we critique it and decide what to add or subtract if it's a do-again. The avocado & plain yogurt helped, but needs more spice, peppers, etc. (Found the following recipe just now & it includes the "missing" spice(s).
