Time to CHANGE the TOPIC headline to either "2018 Chat" or maybe "How Was Your Day?"

Kind of crazy after weeks of cold temps & ice! Felt like "spring" on Dec. 30th! emoticon The temps got into the mid 50's & the sun peeked out for part of the day.

Hope you weekend is a good one! Happy Saturday! emoticon

Fun! I think?

I am visiting my daughter and haven't always eaten wisely but I think I am still ok. I have been going for a 20 minute walk every day which has felt very good. Hopefully, I can continue when I get home.

Hard to believe Wed. is the last day of work for me for the year 2017! ...and the Christmas "everything is 3 or so days after that. I really haven't thought about the what & how of it this year. Just know the "where"--going to adult son's place about an hour away. He offered & it seems like a "good" thing!
emoticon
Had a crazy day at work today. When a 6th grader threatens to get you fired, you kind of wonder why you put up with it all??! Guess I can deal with 3 more hrs w/ middle schoolers on Wed. Sigh! -- Guess the staff is going to "surprise" them first thing in the AM w/ hot chocolate & candy canes. (That's for over 1000 kids, mind you!)

I did see this. I was diagnosed with high b/p years ago when the standard was 120/80. Then it was 130/80, then 140/90. I still take meds but my pressure went up for a while and now has gone down, which I believe is the result of making healthy choices.

So, "yes" that means I definitely fit the "new" category. -- Interesting thought though: I read a study that was done w/ a large group of people over time. It was divided into those on meds for high blood pressure & those w/ high blood pressure and NO meds.

The outcome: both groups had people die in similar ways / similar outcomes / similar numbers of people. The one main difference? The group on meds "thought" they were healthier because their numbers were lower.

I've been studying this since my blood pressure has been "high" for about a year now. I use a home monitor to keep track of my readings. AND I'm seeking healthy ways to make changes for the HEALTH of it!

Trying to convince myself to take a walk later instead of taking the car.

I don't do Halloween any more. The numbers were so inconsistent, one year 3 kids the next 40! At this point, I think it is a very low number consistently. I just turn off the outside light and no one comes to the door.

Headed out for an AM walk Sunday on a local trail. Definitely foggy & cooler. Walked for 85 min. (@ 4.7 miles).

We pretty much never have trick-or-treaters due to our rural setting. (No sidewalks / no safe places to walk / houses NOT close together.)

I like this quote: "Talking to myself...at least I get the 'right' answers."

I'll be heading into work in the AM for a full day as a substitute teacher. - Six more days until I leave for vacation!

Early day for work (7:30am). Plus, still working in the house when not on the job. Still no room completed. Need to do a bit of outside work (probably a couple of hrs.) -- The wind kicked up Thurs. bringing down quite a few leaves. Time to get the rake out!
emoticon
The recent "giggle" was thinking the wind was "moving" the leaves I was raking. Hearing a scritching sound... Turns out our 5 month old kitten thought it was a MARVELOUS place to hide & play & jump (just like a kid!). emoticon

Been a little more successful with going to the gym lately. I started going to a location that is minimally closer to home--but--there is no traffic so I get there in no time! I think it makes a difference to my getting up and going. I have also been upping my cardio. In general I am feeling pretty good.

sounds like you've done well Barbara! emoticon

We are changing our kitchen bench tops.

Have decided to go with a colour called JET BLACK it is Granite and we have the man coming to give us a quote tomorrow morning the same man that did my dad's kitchen.

I had wanted a black for a while now and wanted a natural stone not man made that would never be as strong. The granite one will be awesome. The kitchen is not old but we'e always hated the white, black and grey molted look laminex bench tops so finally are doing something about it.

My husband is also keen to get another water tank to have more capacity of water for the summer for watering the garden so we'll be most likely doing that also.

It's been a busy but very good and productive day in all areas.

Have a good night everyone. emoticon

My son, his fiance and I went on a visit to several potential wedding venues yesterday. So even though I had to skip the gym, I got a lot of walking in. I was sore all over last night because we were walking and standing for most of the day.

Hi all thanks for having me. This looks like one awesome team.

This weekend we have family over from New Zealand as we have a family wedding to attend on Sunday afternoon / Evening.

So it's full of family get together's.

We'll be having a family dinner at my dad's place tonight.

I'm from Australia and we are in spring at the moment and I think we may be in for a hot summer. For most on this team the season will be fall right now if I am right?

Anyhow I must get some other things done right now. Thanks again for having me.

Keep smiling emoticon emoticon

Weather has turned lovely, so I am enjoying a break in the 100 plus degrees we have been experiencing!

Still trying to get exercise back to where I was at the beginning of the year before I started having various health issues. (Nothing terribly serious, just things that disrupted my ability to exercise). Of course, I slept in, instead of getting to the gym this morning! Sunday is so tempting.....

In regard to flooding down near the Houston-Galveston area, I'm happy to report that in Galveston County (south of Houston) the water has drained off in all areas I'm aware of. The sun is even shining today! My son had to travel through the Houston area yesterday and only ran into water on the road in one spot, but I'm sure some spots will hold water for awhile. The water is definitely draining off, but many people were flooded out of their homes & businesses so the receding water is only the first step...there is much work yet to be done but Texas will be back! :)

I can't agree with you there. Climate change is all too real and man has definitely contributed to it. It is science. We don't have control over weather in the moment but we do contribute over time. A lot of what we are experiencing now is because of our past ignorance about carbon emissions, green house gases, etc., and the refusal in many areas to do anything now.

I think being careful about water consumption is better than being flooded....

We are having a heat wave of epic proportions. It has been lovely for weeks and this past week we have had 100 degree plus for days--I mean 105, 106 and over 110 in some areas. I have a fan in every part of the house that I sit in, and am surviving fairly well. It's cooling off to the mid-90s the end of this week!

Hard to believe it is the end of August. -- We are having high temps again & again. So ready to be done with that!

But, I have to be thankful NOT to be inundated with so much water--those poor people in the Houston, TX area of the country. The conversation on the news tonight indicated that there could be water in communities all the way until October!!? -- Guess this is the OPPOSITE of the drought that area had for quite a while?!

Wow, been a while! I wasn't home for most of July--I had to fly up to my daughter's because my son-in-law was hospitalized for a ruptured colon.I was there for just over 3 weeks. He is doing well, thank goodness, but he has one more surgery to repair his colon and then recovery from that. Food was a challenge thee as it always is. My daughter is a grazer--which I am not--so meals were catch as catch can. It was nice to get home to my own kitchen.

I am still struggling to get back into an exercise routine. I have had various health issues this year, much more so than usual, and exercise was the victim. It has become too easy to just pass! I keep trying, though.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Husband brought home croissants from the local market this week, so we froze a couple and I heated one up today for breakfast. SO good and flaky! Can't do these too often, though, more calories than my usual breakfast. But definitely a nice treat once in a blue moon. And since we're talking about food (we were, right?), he saw lobster on sale at the local supermarket and brought home fresh lobsters for dinner last night! Oh, that was GOOD. Wow. That won't happen again for a long time... now looking at salad recipes on sparkrecipes to see if anyone is coming up with anything interesting.

How are all the over 50 ladies doing today? I'm all right. It's my rest day, so no heavy exercise but maybe a walk will be in the cards after work. Is there anyone out there in this age bracket who is losing steadily? If so, what is your eating plan like? Just curious...

I was so happy to find a new massage therapist today! (Groupon). In the past, it's kind of been the Goldilocks story. emoticon (too hard, too expensive, too soft, etc.) My only challenge will be working with the limited time she is open /available. -- I understand the reason of it: limited availability for childcare. It's what a mom has to do when she has to work.

But then we all make things work when it benefits all around!

We have the exact same type of insane weather. Right now we are having a heat wave, with temps forecast over 100 degrees. I can tolerate heat fairly well, but over 100 is bad for anyone.......

In other news, I had the most bizarre experience about 2 weeks ago. I have not felt great for some time--even when I wasn't ill, I didn't feel like myself and I finally chalked it up to age (I had a complete physical). Couple weeks ago, I got these stomach pains like gas pains which fluctuated over several days, getting less each day and feeling lower in my stomach each day, until it finally just passed. The next morning I woke up and felt like myself again! Literally, I had energy and felt normal. Very strange but I am just happy to be back to myself!

Best I can say about the weather this Spring: PSYCHOTIC! emoticon

There's been nothing average or typical or able to be planned for... It's actually been it's own kind of stress for me. -- Lately I've been getting sick to my stomach when the temperatures have gone up over 80. Not sure what is up with that??! And, I can't sleep w/ heat. (No AC allowed at our place, per DH.)
emoticon
The biggest frustration has been 20-30 degree fluctuations! 60's to high 80's & then down to 70's & by Sunday up to 100?!?!? The body is not able to adjust because it is just so CRAZY!

...and now, back to your regular scheduled programing!
emoticon
Oh... At 9:24pm (PST) today, is the beginning of Summer! NOT my favorite time of year!

Weigh in Fri. morning to check for scale changes after being gone. -- I do know that it's easier to walk now that I've been hitting 10K+ every day for the past 6-7 days.

One of my "first" things to notice is how my clothes fit. (I had to tighten my bra one more notch today!) - Overall, I've been making healthier choices. Cravings are somewhat more being "managed". Little by little!

And for the record, 5 days at the coast--would have been okay to add on another 5! Just saying! -- Told my DH I would be heading back in 6 months for my birthday.

Last day of April! -- Got in an AM walk (40 min / 2.5 mi).

Starting a different track for me today: 40 days of specific changes to feed myself nutritionally to heal my gut issues (4 things each day) ...and that in turn should help heal my head issues of cravings with the end of goal of believing I can succeed at this!
emoticon
I already have 3 days of work scheduled this week. + Time to write out list of things for 5 days at the beach, starting next Sunday! Can't wait!

Worked at a place today where the staff was friendly AND nice! (I had a couple of jobs last week where I think the front office should go find different jobs.) - The front office really does put the "face" on a business!

We've had enough rain here to need a BOAT to get to work. -- At least I got a walk done in the AM before the net bout of rain set in. I'm thinking that soon I will grow webbed feet!

Great plan, Berry. I love those rotisserie chickens, although by the time I finish one, I am sick of chicken.

I spent nearly ten years working on improving my physical condition and in the last 6 months have seen most of it go down the drain. Just some bad breaks that have prevented me from exercising. But my cold or whatever it was that kept me in a sad little heap last week is over enough that I am going to make the attempt to come back, like the phoenix!

Sunday chit chat? What are you all doing? I'm taking it easy, going to exercise in a little bit, maybe do some laundry later, etc. etc. DH wants to grill some fish later while it's sunny out, before our next few days of rain! Anyone here ever grill sardines? Mmmmmmmm.... very Mediterranean. Maybe someday I'll actually get to eat them on the beach in Portugal... emoticon emoticon

It's always my view that if I can assist my body in helping itself--do what it was designed to do, than I'm way ahead of the "game"... Since food is both fuel & health, what I take in has a lot to do with my overall health.

One of the suggestions re. vit.D is to also take vit.K (per my chiropractor). They seem to work better in unison...

I look at the supplements I do take as basic as brushing my teeth. (In fact, I keep the above 2 in front of the mirror in the bathroom so that I remember to take them in the AM after brushing!) It's just something I do to improve my health as naturally as possible.

Yes, I do have low vit. D and am taking supplements for that, as well as a daily vitamin. These other suggestions are interesting - I actually never heard of them - but honestly I'm just not a supplement person. I'm lucky if I can keep up with the vit. d on a regular basis!

But I appreciate your support and suggestions! Thank you!

Here are some basic ideas: have you had your vit.D levels checked? I live in the Pacific North"wet" and it has been suggested by my acupuncturist that I still need to up my intake so that my blood levels are "above" the middle point range.

* Lauricidin (Monolaurin is a highly purified lipid extract derived from coconut oil.)
* Olive Leaf Extract
* Immuplex (from company: Standard Process)
* Oregano Oil Extract (caution in use)

HI, I'm going to look at that video, so thanks - I never heard of this type of massage before.
What kinds of things are you talking about for boosting the immune system? I'm not big on supplements, but definitely willing to hear about other things.

Yikes - a tooth abscess is pretty horrible - you have to be pretty careful about getting the infection taken care of. I hope it subsides and you feel better soon. I definitely hear you about how one thing connects to another and snowballs!

Here's a question: since your glands are part of the lymph system, I found a massage therapist online with suggestions for treating things like sinus issues. (I will include a link...) -- The other question: have you tried some things to boost your immune system? (I have several suggestions if you are interested...)

Part of my issue is multi-pronged. I've been dealing systemically with fall-out from a tooth abscess since January. (I've been trying to treat it naturally; without getting a root canal.) -- So my body systems are all fired up dealing with that & it seems to have caused a snowball effect (not a good one). I've been running a TOM for 2 weeks now (after 4 months w/out). There's the muscle issue--on the side where the tooth is abscessed. ETC. I can't point to one thing, without it connecting to another thing! Sigh..........

I'm going to try 2 exercises every day for 30-days and see if I can build up some strength: 30-days of planks + 30-days of wall-sit/squat.

Here's that link:

I used to bring it up to my doctors (family doctors and endocrinologists) and through the years they sent me for blood tests for thyroid issues, for autoimmune diseases, lyme disease, etc. and everything always came back normal, so pretty much I got a *shrug* - can't find any reason for it. Oh well. Never anything further.

Then at one point I googled my symptoms (of course!) and self-diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. I even wrote a blog about it here on sparkpeople years ago. I haven't discussed it with any doctors because it seems like there's nothing that can be done about it, and it doesn't affect my daily life unless I over-do the exercise or do high-intensity exercise. At which point it will make me feel absolutely horrible for weeks/sometimes months on end.

So, now I'm trying to be smart about very slowly increasing my cardio so that I don't trigger the headaches and fatigue. But those neck glands - they seem to swell up no matter what. I'm hoping eventually they go down...

Did your chiropractor have any recommendations for working through the muscle issue?

I'll try to do better at check in... That's interesting that you react to exercise. Have you had that checked out? -- I know I seem to have problems w/ strength training which is why I backed out of it. Seemed like I was in pain for days on end; way more than DOMS.

In fact, I tried 1 simple exercise of modified push-ups (2 sets of 15; 3x's) after my walk a week+ ago. And then I end up w/ my left arm aching & numbness in my hand, wrist, fingers. When I brought it up w/ my chiropractor, he felt that some of my muscles aren't engaging, so the other side has to work extra & then I'm "out of balance". -- How am I supposed to strength train when the muscles don't work together; and I don't know when or how?!

Well, I'm back again, so that's good. I hope you feel better soon! My little walk yesterday afternoon just knocked me out - not good! I woke up with swollen glands this morning, but am trying to just pretend they don't exist. This happens a lot when I exercise, which is part of why I pretty much stopped exercising a few years ago - it just makes me feel fatigued and sick a lot. But I'm going to continue slowly ramping things up and hopefully things will get better.

Tonight I'm trying a free weekly yoga class at our town library. I have no idea how many people show up for this but hopefully it will be a nice class. I need to BOOK out of work at the stroke of 5 to make it on time.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Not sure where everyone is.

I am still having problems with my feet. And with scheduling. Every time I plan for the gym, something pops up. I woke up this morning with a cold, very unusual for me. Hopefully, I can start getting back on track this week.

Starting the 2nd full week of exercising - very happy with myself! I'm up to 25 minutes (very sloooowwwly) on the bike, some back exercises and general calisthenics. How is everyone else doing? I see daily chat isn't exactly an active thread - anyone interested in ramping this up?

I finally got to the gym on Thursday of this week. My feet are just killing me so I did very little. I will try to go and do just a little tomorrow/ Of course, I was walking around for several hours today which did not helo the situation.

Berry, I hae gained about 20 pounds back over the last 4 years and I definitely feel it. Goodluck!

Do the best you can! emoticon

My days are really full with working every day right now. I haven't done this since last summer on the farm--and then I'm outside all day. (Sunshine really helps how I feel!) -- This feels different. It doesn't help that my weight is UP 10 more lbs, so it feels like I'm dragging this excess around every where I go. (One would think it would help w/ movement??!) I was pretty much good-for-nothin' by the time I got home on Friday. I was grumpy & unhappy w/ requests from anybody to do things for them. (ie. "just leave me alone"!)
I'll have to try to adjust since this will be my schedule for ALL of March... emoticon

Buehler, buehler?

I am going to the gym tomorrow for the first time since 2/7! I was taking a medication that has as one side effect tendonitis, so I have been taking it easy. I am going to go very easy. It is going to be hard to get back into it!

I had cancelled dinner with my son on Friday because they were actually warning people to stay home! As it happens, a car fell into a sink hole in the general route that I would have driven. I was happy we all stayed home. So we had some clearing over the weekend, and my dinner is rescheduled for tonight--and there is rain forecast!! Haha. Luckily, it doesn't appear to be as bad, so as of now, I am still going.

Thankful for a 3-day weekend. Time to get the car in for an oil change on DD's vehicle while it isn't being used for to & from college classes! (price is right)

Made a point today to take extra walks at work (didn't hurt that I got lost & ended up in the wrong parking lot)

Hopefully I'll find time to get to some quilting projects. I was able to cut some portions out today during transition time. Always more to do than time to do it.

We've had a LOT of rain--all day Sunday. Time to get a boat, maybe. Fortunately, it has eased up tonight. They are even suggesting a 50-something temp come next Monday!? Guess we'll see what happens when the sun comes up.
