My daughter and her family left this morning and I am exhausted. I didn't do that much but having three people, one of whom is a very energetic 4 year old, in the house is so different when you are accustomed to living alone. Hopefully, I'll get a good night's sleep.

And, of course, I ate more than I should have. Most of which was stress. I am trying to get back in my regular food routine, and Thursday I'll get back to the gym.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I did. I did a lot of babysitting since I took the week off and GD had no school. They had to put their dog down last Monday, he was very old and not doing well at all. GD was heartbroken but we went shopping with her favorite aunt and baked cookies and pies for Thanksgiving so she had a good time with grandma! Back at work now and trying to get back on a decent schedule. My sleep schedule was all messed up, I am so tired today! It will take a couple of days to get back on a regular routine but I sure need to.

Exactly why I have never had one. I've also never had the flu--at least not in recent memory. But I figured I would do it, especially since I got a gift card for getting it!

Fortunately, the reaction I had only lasted for about 24 hrs.

I usually don't get a flu shot, but a couple years ago, my doc guilted me into it, and now they just assume I'm going to have one. Frankly, I'm still on the fence about them...

MSBootcamp, yeah, My BIL is pretty much it for me. I recently moved away from my network of friends (it's a long story) and my whole neighborhood is filled with old (older than me - and I'm OLD) people.

We get a lot of snow. I have been shoveling snow since I was a kid. I can do it, but I hate it.

Got a flu shot yesterday and I am having a bad reaction to it. Shivers and sore throat, and my arm is so sore. Have had them before with no problems, this one is getting to me. Does anyone else react to them?

Jumpup, your BIL is the only person you can get to help?? Probably DO need to get your blower serviced. Unless you only get a bit of snow occasionally, shoveling it yourself - all by yourself - should be optional. Unless you're in really great shape, and itching for a serious strength and cardio workout. Do what you have to do!! : )

Cold rain here today. Snow in the forecast. Frannie, are you getting the weather now? Is it awful?

All summer long, I told myself to get the snowblower fixed. Did I? NO. Why not? I don't have a clue. Now here it is, the season, and I will be out there shoveling again. - unless I can convince my BIL to help me get the blower into the trunk and over to Sears - and then back again. He is not anxious to help.

I did, at least, get my winter coat in for alterations. Need to have the sleeves shortened. It's a suede dress coat that I bought online at Zulily and, while I have short arms and all sleeves are long on me, these are ridiculous! The coat was a great price, but with the cost of altering leather, it is no longer a bargain. Oh, well. I needed a coat and this one is cute.

It's only a couple of days, but every time I leave the house or come home, I look for him. Sigh. I would love another kitten but I know that I won't be tempted. THe litter box, food, cleaning up.

Jumpup, my mom and dad did the same thing. Their dog passed away and my dad swore no more. 3 months later the vet called with a dog that needed a home, it was a large dog and he knew my folks always had large dogs. They took him and got another one a few months later! My mom lost a cat though when just after I had moved out and she never got another cat, she said there wasn't a cat that could replace Mickey. We always had dogs though and my mom had one up until she passed away. I do not have a pet now, I had to put my dog down several years ago and I am just getting to where I feel like I could have another dog. She was amazing!

Several years ago, I lost my last of a houseful of cats and I decided that was it for pets for me. Didn't have cat hair all over the place, no litter box to clean, all that. By this time, my daughter had grown and moved out, so I felt truly on my own.

But when I'd get home from work, the house was so still and quiet and empty that I hated it! When my cousin had kittens that she was trying to find homes for, I took one. Then another cousin had kittens and I took one of those. Best cats I ever had! Not at all sorry I did it.

Now, they are getting old and I am not looking forward to the day..... These will be the last.

Barbara, you have my sympathy.

And Frannie, stay strong!

He was my last pet. I can't go through it again, and since I visit my daughter in Seattle a few times a year, having to get someone to look in was becoming a problem. But--I would love to have another little furry love.

Barbara, I am so sorry. It is so hard when it is time. We had to put our 18 yo cat down recently, she was in a lot of pain. My hubby is missing her so much, she was a sweetie for sure. I am waiting awhile but I think in the spring I am going to surprise him with a kitten.

Frannie, Jumpup, and all, you are so right. Pinky swear that if anyone comes up with that magic solution to losing weight, she will share!

On a very somber note, today has been really tough for me. I finally took my cat to the vet to have him put to sleep. He was still a tiny bit of my old BobbyCat, but he was just getting worse and worse. I feel dehydrated from crying.

Isn't it the truth! Ladies, I am glad you are still in the fight. None of us need advice. We all know what to do. But the support while we struggle is great to have!

This time of year, I develop the dread chipmunk syndrome. Just want to nibble all day. I hang on to my hardly showing ribs and try to keep my mouth shut. It is not easy.

Jumpup, that is great!!! I have taken medicine that caused me to put on weight just a couple of times and getting that weight back off was a nightmare!! Good for you!

Meanwhile, my weight is a nightmare right now. I just can't get it to go down, I get frustrated and eat what I shouldn't and it inches up. With great respect, I am saying this to vent, I am not asking for advice. I know what I should do and what should happen, but things are not aligning well so it is not working. I keep hope that I can get over this hump.

Haven't checked into this team in a LOOONG time. So glad to see familiar names!

Frannie, I'm with you, I have so many other things going on online, it's about all the computer time I can spend!

Quick update on me: I lost 70 lbs last year. Can't take a lot of credit for it, though. I was on meds that made me balloon up and when I stopped taking them, it all just melted off, plus some. But I have been active and careful about what I eat, so there is that. Still have about 25 to go, but eventually, I will get there. If I can make it through winter. Always tough to keep the resolve in winter.

Heading to Arizona to spend time with grandkids in a couple weeks. Very excited about that. I only get there once a year, and the kids grow so fast.

Will try to be more diligent about checking in.

I have to agree that I have had just a bit too much angst this election. I am trying to avoid any and all reference for awhile but it is not easy!

We have had just about the loveliest fall I remember in a long time, temps in the 50s and 60s even now in November! I live in Chicago for goodness sakes, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth and have just been enjoying it. I just brought my house plants in from the front porch, usually I have them in by the end of October. We still haven't had a freeze but I know it is going to freeze soon so I thought I would err on the side of caution. So in they came, my house is now a jungle! I have 2 I can't lift anymore, they are too big so I have had to ask my SIL to get them in for me. I actually love it when they are all in the house, it makes it feel so homey.

Wow. I have never bought a groupon myself but I used to know someone who used them all the time. One time we went to dinner at a restaurant with the groupon, and once there, were told we couldn't use it. We stayed and had a mediocre meal, never went back. I wish we had just gotten up and left.

Had a business owner today refuse to do business with me after I had a paid Groupon and a scheduled appt for the past 6+ wks. (He even sent a reminder on Sunday for the appt.) So technically, he owes me for a day's lost wages since I took the day off due to the appt.

Yes, I was refunded from Groupon, but I did make a point of leaving negative review info. in 2 different places. (His excuse: Groupon doesn't pay him enough to take their vouchers?!)

After a day spent in a 7th grade Humanities classroom... I have to say that my issues re. CANDY in school was not exaggerated. Wrappers were left on desks, scraps on the floor, and kids nibbling sugar all period long. When I asked them to put it ALL away until break times or lunch time, their answer was, "Well what else are we supposed to do w/ all our Halloween candy?!"

Feel better Barbara, there are a lot of nasty colds going around this year. I had my traditional beginning of the school year cold and then 2 weeks later got another one!

Fresh salmon, how great!

I am sick--I never get sick so I might be reacting a little more than I should. My head is just killing me, and I have a runny nose, but no congestion. I think it might be my sinuses rather than a cold, so I might even go to the doctor.

Hi all, long time no chat. No good excuse really, I just hate getting on a computer when I get home. I have been active in a challenge and that is all the computer time I can stand. I am going to try and get on here more, you guys have always been such a big part of my Sparking!

Berry, Happy Birthday, your dinner sounds wonderful! I adore salmon. Sounds like you have a nice week planned. Believe it or not, the kids have not been bad at my school this week. I thought they would be crazed but the teachers have said they have been pretty good.

Welcome to November! emoticon
It's my birthday and we are having salmon caught by a co-worker in Alaska, grilled veggies, brown rice w/ quinoa, cabbage salad & chocolate chip cookies.

I've taken the week off from work until Friday. -- As a substitute teacher, I choose NOT to deal w/ kids hyped up on sugar and all things "halloween". I have an appt. for stress-relief tomorrow & quilting on Thurs. So it should be a nice week all around!
