I've iced it, I've put heat on it, I've tried Ben Gay and Tiger Balm. I've used it, I've rested it. No changes at all.

Put a request for 'Non-Urgent Medical Advice' in to my Primary Care doc,, but a message came back that she's out of office.

I have done nothing all week, except drive, I have skipped all my classes but my Tai Chi coaching and I will go to class tomorrow, because I hate to miss out on the advice the instructor gives

Weather is supposed to be beautiful today, spring is slowly arriving and then one day, all of a sudden, it will be summer.

Happy April, I hope no one fool's you today!

The trick is to cover your eyes. I usually bring a dark colored bandana with me that I have sprayed with a 'stress relief' eucalyptus scent. And then meditate on a relaxing nature scene you have in your head.

How sad is it that I am so familiar with MRIs that I can give advice.... just pray you never need one.

Right now I am trying to figure out how to soak my knee, which has been getting more painful and stiff, in Epsom Salts without actually getting in the tub (ugh) or swamping the house. I think it will have to do with some garbage bags and wet towels, but I haven't figured out all the details yet.

Have a wonderful day - temps are going to be downright springy today, and then plunge bellow freezing tonight. Ah, Cleveland. You don't like the weather? Just wait a minute or two!!

I don't think I could do it--I am slightly claustrophobic...

I had my eyes checked and bought new glasses this morning! Since I haven't had my eyes checked since Sept 2009, it was time....I was shocked because my prescription was fine! I thought for sure I needed a new one. She gave me a slightly stronger rx, but very marginal.

Good for you for conquering the gutters, Barbara! That's more nerve than I have!

emoticon

I go for a head MRI today to keep tabs on my auto-immune disease. 45 minutes of staying absolutely still in your coffin, while Thor hammers on his anvil all around your head! One of my favorite things to do, not. I am sure the results will be fine. I feel good, I'm able to see right, just a few headaches.

Have a couple classes before hand, not sure the timing will work out, may have to skip Qigong.

THe more I think about it, the more I think I will.

I got very bold yesterday and climbed a ladder to clean out the gutters!! I had to go up and down a number of times, moving it. The ground is very uneven so it was a little scary and probably a lot stupid, but I did it and I feel good.

Never heard of Blue Emu, but I will definitely be looking it up!

Definitely take the doc up on the Physical Therapy! i thought my back was going to be damaged forever from that cyst I had on my spine, but with PT, voila! only my knee hurts!

I have heard of Blue Emu--I should look for it.

The leg is feeling pretty good right now, since I haven't walked in well over a week. I had a checkup this week, and the dr agreed with me that apparently even the gentle impact of just walking might be too much. I do several different stretches and exercises, some of which I got on SP. The dr gave me the option of physical therapy and said that it might be good to do even when the leg is not bad, to prevent it from getting bad. I am thinking seriously about taking her up on it.

Happy Easter to all! I don't celebrate, and I just wish I were closer to my little grandson so I could make him a basket like I used to do for the kids!!

Jumpup, mymom used to use a product called Blue Emu, she swore it helped with her arthritis, a friend of mine who has fibromyalgia recommended it, she used it religiously!

Barbara, take it easy so you don't make your leg worse, make sure you are ready to walk before you do. Gotta take care of yourself. There are some good seated exercises on Spark, I use some of them at work when I need something to stretch my muscles and get some movement in.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, for those of you who celebrate, enjoy your Easter weekend.

Some injuries are best treated with rest, some need to be worked out. Too bad we don't come with an instruction manual

Hope you are feeling better and better, Barbara, and can get back out there and walk soon.

Yesterday was my 'triple play' day, with Strength and Stretch class followed by Yoga and then an hour of Tai Chi coaching. My knee is killing me today, and I even wore a brace! Tai Chi instructor had told me about finding a 'dit da jow' to use (essentially Chinese Ben Gay), so I started rubbing Tiger Balm into my knee at night. Yesterday he said, use epsom salts. So I will try that too.

No classes today, but Easter prep looms large! Clean the house and start the sauce. Tomorrow I will make the cheesecake. Can only fit so much in the fridge, so I will wait to assemble the lasagna until Sunday morning.

I have had to stop taking the walks around my neighborhood. I had a doctor's appt yesterday and she agreed that even the walks I was taking were obviously too much impact for my bad IT band. I haven't walked in over a week and my leg feels substantially better. I may test it with a very gentle walk in another week. Plus the plantars faschitis. Good grief, I am falling apart!! Could be worse.

Hi all, I am home today after a week at a conference with little or no internet. The WiFi at the hotel was terrible so the only time I had internet was during my conference sessions. It actually was nice, I did a bit of reading when I got back to my room at night and had a nice big king size bed all to myself!

Portion control is key, I struggle with that myself. I really have to get my eating under control, for some reason I am just losing it! I am exercising, if I could get my eating in line I could get down to a healthy weight. I would be happy with just 25 lbs right now.

Jumpup, measuring is the right idea, I need to get back to that also. I am thinking I will get a new scale for my kitchen. The one I have is a cheap one and hard to read.

That's where I am - portion control. I'm going to have to go back and start measuring everything again. Well, it will be easier when spring and summer arrive.

You seem to be getting a good amount of exercise, so you must need to really watch your diet. Portion control is always my biggest problem. There are articles on SP about it--I think a lot of people really don't know how much more they eat than a proper portion,

Go to your Spark Page and you will see the tracker kind of midway down the page.

Hi all, new kid here. This week I've done lots of walking with the great weather. Six days so far! I live right near a park and my subdivision is hilly, so a 2 mile walk is more of a hike. Today I didn't get winded when I climbed up the street to the park and I didn't have to stop during my 40-ish circuit. Feels good, but I'm wrestling against panic, I know my eating is not good and I feel like I'm just getting fatter by the hour.:/ On another topic, where do you all get the cute trackers at the bottom of your posts?

So I did get up early enough to go for a short walk before my knitting group this morning. 25 minutes, and considering how badly my leg is bothering me, that was good.

I don't like to walk in the rain - especially not a cool fall or spring rain, summer rain can sometimes be different, but still I find it unpleasant.

But then neither do I like to walk when it's hot and humid. Picky picky picky.

Woke up at 2 am this morning. Jeez I hate this. I get up so early, then I get tired by 6p and fall asleep. Usually sleep (hard) in the recliner til about 10 or 11, then go to bed. I get so bored in the evenings, that my eyes just want to close. That and most of my meds say "may make you drowsy". They ain't just kidding.

Well, at least this gives me some time to get some Tai Chi practice in before class. I really do not like to go in there cold. Maybe my age, but I forget what comes next, unless I practice it, practice it, practice it!

I hear you! - I pretty much felt tired today. Still got some things done around the house, but did not get out the door for a walk in the rain. Just not enjoyable. emoticon
I already have a long list of errands and things to do for Sat. That includes a trip to the gym for ST & cardio.

Sorry to break my 10-day walking streak, but I need to listen to my body and not let it get stressed out trying to do everything.

That is nice.

I meant to go to the gym this morning because I can't go Sunday whichis my usual. I woke up, turned over and woke up nearly 2 hours later! When I wake up suddenly, I get disoriented, and I was half dressed before I knew it! So then I was going to take a walk this afternoon to make up for it--and it rained!!!! Guess it was not in the cards today.

What a nice gesture to make for your leader! I'm sure she was moved.

I got about a mile walk in today, the weather was chilly but dry. Tomorrow is supposed to warm up quite a bit, so that will be nice. I have Tai Chi in the morning, but maybe I'll get some yard work in in the afternoon. Lot's of cleanup to do.

Today was quilting day and we celebrated the 20+ yrs of both service & kindnesses in blessing others by our 93 yr old leader. She was so very surprised, and there were tears. She kept saying, "Oh my goodness!" over & over. About 35-40 [people showed up to celebrate her and to give a quilt we had made for her w/ our names embroidered & an around-the-world design of her favorite colors. (We had kept the whole thing a surprise.) emoticon
January marked the beginning of my 3rd yr in the group. It has been a wonderful addition to my life & doings. I feel blessed to know her & the others!

Hi all, busy week around here. I love all the posting! We have had such lovely weather this week (a little wet but not very) that I have been walking for 35 - 40 minutes every day. It is not as warm today but still not bad so I hope to keep it up.

I had to post this cute site I found. It lets you create your own font from you hand writing. You print out a sheet that has the alphabet and then some optional characters, you use a sharpie marker to make your letters then scan it to your computer or email. Then you upload the sheet to the website and you get an email with a true type font you can load onto your computer and use.

It is not exactly my handwriting but it is the way I make my letters so it was fun. Here is the link: www.myscriptfont.com/

My seasonal job starts in the summer and runs about 6 weeks. I'm on my feet constantly and lots of movement. But last year, I couldn't lose weight for love nor money. emoticon

Finally, now, I seem to have a bit of response from that silly scale! -- I've walked every single day so far this month. (Thurs. may be an exception?!) And I'm experimenting with IF to see if I can get my body to begin to burn fat again (after only gaining for over 3 yrs). The good news is that overall, I'm not hungry. It's more dealing with previously acquired habits of putting food in my mouth for reasons other than hunger. emoticon

I have been working my seasonal job. This is the time that it is too easy for me to drop off the wagon. I am ignoring the other people bringing in donuts, etc. I have my bananas, ahaolos, kiwi and try to make sure I ignore their snacks when they keep wanting to share

Keep on track

Jumpup, the butterfly garden sounds beautiful!

I did 25 minutes this morning. I had hoped to make 30 but I was done. I had problems sleeping last night because my leg was cramping badly--old injury that has flared up in the past year--and walking was rough at first. By the time the leg was feeling better, I was just done though!! Irony.

I am in the middle of Sparkpeople 30 day Challenge to get 30 minutes in. It has got me out walking and I am loving it! Once or twice a week I am just too busy so I walk in place for 30, which gets her done. Going to probably continue with the challenge when it is over.

Oh, Lucky Barbara - a Botanical Garden! I love doing things like that.

Last time I went to visit g'kids, we went to a Butterfly Garden and had the best time! The kids were fascinated by all the different and pretty butterflies, and when they landed on us, they were over the moon! Good memories.

Have a great time.

Feeling better today, will go do Aqua Jog and Qigong after all. Next week is Spring Break, but I'll be working our Primary Election and have a doc appt, Not much of a break, and it's supposed to be pretty rainy the whole time, so I'll have to do my home workouts!

Tomorrow will be my first walk day this week. I did go to the gym this morning. I will miss the gym on Sunday (I'll go Thursday) but I will be walking around a botanical garden so hopefully, I will get enough exercise to make up for it.

I did get a half hour walk in this morning early, but I had awakened with a bit of a sore throat and a little achy. Thought I could throw it off with a walk, but when I got home, I was cold and shivering, so I stretched out on the recliner with my trusty heating pad and just woke up. It's 3 oclock. Well, the body needs what the body needs. Feeling better now, although my sinuses are stuffy.

Will get the rest of my routine for the morning in, and practice my Tai Chi and that will probably be all she wrote for the day.

It is good to see so many people with so many plans in place to get fitter! And DOING it!

Don't forget to drink your water!

I am in a Exercise Challenge with a Weight Watcher group of FB. The goal is to do at least 25 minutes of exercise every single day between March 1 and June 8th. That is 100 days. At lot of this will be walking for me.

Hi Ladies,

I''m going to get back to my increased level of walking - I usually try for 15K steps a day. However, between the gnarly weather here in PA over the last few months, combined with a lingering non-serious bronchitis, I dropped signfiicantly below that. And - now my weight has naturally crept back up. Dang!
I hope that by committing to you all and by checking in, I will get back to my goal, consistently.
Good luck to each of you/all of us, and thanks for being there/here. :)

I joined a local gym so I'm trying to get there. Hopefully I will lose some weight.

We joined a local gym and I'm working out there 6 days each week per doctor's orders. As I have spinal problems that preclude walking as exercise, I use a NuStep recumbent cross trainer there mostly. Have tried a few minutes on rowing machine - that really is a workout!

Slowly and surely wins the race.

I love that all of you have checked it to let us know what you are doing. It is great to hear how many of us are working at remaining active. I have started working with a group of teachers after school, we do mostly strength training and then I walk home from work. It is about 2 miles.

It is so nice and warm here today, I am really enjoying the warm weather, I hope all of you are getting good weather too!

I walk in my neighborhood on most days and do a longer walk on the weekends. When weather permits, we go snowshoeing at Mt.Lassen on Saturdays. When the weather warms up we'll be taking the kayaks over to our lake. I sit at work most of the day so when I get home around 3:00, I can't wait to get those walking shoes on and get the blood flowing.

Everyone has great exercises plans, either already becoming habits or in the process!

I am fighting a weight gain of about 12 pounds over the last two years--weight I had lost and regained, so need to lose it again. I am pretty good about going to the gym 3 times a week and doing an hour ont he elliptical (can't do the treadmill anymore because of plantar faschitis). I have been trying to add some short walks int he neighborhood on the days I don't go to the gym. The last 2 weeks, I have been successful 2-3 times a week. I'm hoping the additional steps might give me a little jolt!

I stopped getting notifications of new posts from ALL my teams, don't know what happened. Grateful that Frannie sent a SparkMail with a link. Been missing everybody!

Our weather is finally feeling springlike, even though it's been a very mild winter (for us). Today it made it up to 60 and was glorious. Lots of rain in the forecasts, but I'll take that over snow any day!

Soon as it dries up, I plan to add a half to a mile walk every morning to my regular routine. I'll have a 2 month break between semesters coming up soon, so I'll have to be good and do as much as I can remember from all my classes. The extra coaching I've been taking for Tai Chi is really paying off - I'm not perfect at it yet, but feeling much more comfortable with it.

With the weather a little better, I don't feel the need to eat as much at dinner either. That's a plus! I have spent the winter with chipmunk syndrome wanting to eat all the time - as a result, no weight loss. No gain, but no loss.

Better times on the horizon!

Walking about 3 miles in the neighborhood with the CD player is my favorite form of exercise. Glad to see that the weather is getting warmer. Also trying to take a balance class once a week. Good luck to the rest of you.

I've been doing spinning and yoga classes. Just waiting for some running bras to be delivered and I'm doing the couch to 5 k challenge on SP. Lots of good advice on getting started, shoes, pace, etc. on here, too.

I walk 3 miles every weekday morning with a friend. I'm hoping to add yoga twice a week, some strength training, and some more leisurely walks with my dogs. Started Advocare 24-day challenge today with my 19-year old daughter, who gained more than 60 pounds since she started college in the fall of 2014. Hoping and praying this works as a jumpstart for her! (and me, too, though truthfully, her journey to health will be longer and harder than mine!)

Berry, don't give up, sometimes it just takes tweaking what you are doing. Stress does cause your body to hold onto fat. Use the nutrition and fitness trackers, they really help me see what is going on.

Keep trying to figure out what it will take to LOSE weight! Nothing seems to work with this fat that has come as a result of mishandling STRESS over the past couple of years. I've been working on that aspect in a variety of ways, but it seems like the outcome means that my body is choosing to hold on to the fat.

So far for March, I'm 6 for 6 in days walking. (@ 13 mi). I hope to continue that as much as possible. I'm also looking for a way(s) to boost metabolism. Seems to be a process of Trial & Error with more error than success.
