Hi all, hey Barbara, we need a May thread! Hope everyone is good, I got a lot of gardening done this weekend, loved it. The weather was so beautiful! I went to a new restaurant, it is vegan and the food was so good.

No rain today, just a beautiful sunny 70s day! (rain is for next week....) I have got so much yard work to do I could just cry. I spent 2 or 3 hours out there today, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, chopping up fallen limbs, mowing the lawn. And I have barely made a dent.

Ah, I remember those days! Although my son never had that much stuff so we didn't have to move as much.

My toe continues to bother me, especially if I wear shoes for any length of time. This is getting old fast.

So no gym for me today or this weekend. I am really hoping that next week I can ease back into a more normal routine.

Be careful out there!!

And--rain? What is that? We don't have this thing you call rain in Southern California.

Where's the rain...? We've had several beautiful days. -- Last day of April I spent a good chunk of time at DS's university helping him move out of his dorm room. He'll be home for 4 months before going back for one more year.
(I should have taken a picture of everything we packed into our van--INCLUDING a sofa love seat & a sm. refrigerator! + major computer collection since he's on his way to being a computer programmer!)

Smart thinking, Barbara. You really did a number on your toe, didn't you! Hope it heals quickly and well and stops causing you pain!

I am off to last swim class for the semester - we had one snow day to make up, so today is it. Next semester starts the end of May. The pool is supposed to have some free swim hours in May, but I haven't seen the schedule posted yet. I have so much yardwork to do, I probably wouldn't make it to any sessions anyway, Unless it really doesn't quit raining!

Went to the gym this morning but I was just not up to form, so I did as much as I could and came home. Truthfully, I don't think it was the best thing for my toe--it bothered me yesterday and this morning. Well, I am just sitting without shoes this afternoon.

You know, you may have! Have you had your thyroid checked? There are 2 tests, make sure they do them both (blood)! Cardio is supposed to ramp up the metabolism but I don't know how much some of us have to do to have an effect.

I'm out the door to an early dental appt,, hope I feel like doing ANYthing when I get back - the day is supposed to be nice and I wouldn't mind taking a walk, or continuing to pull weeds.

Hahahaha--the calories I burn at the gym don't seem to help me at all. I am convinced that having been starvation dieting so much of my life destroyed my metabolism.

Good for you, Barbara!

My classes are over until the end of May, so I am looking for something to burn calories - especially on rainy days, which we seem to be having regularly. At the very least I can double up my regular routine, I guess. Time to do some major meal planning, too.

These are just routine visits to the doc now to keep an eye on my hormone levels. (lots of blood work) I had another head MRI a couple weeks ago and there is no change from the last one. A little scar tissue on my pituitary from the surgery and a little other damage, but no sign of inflammation, YAY!

Been doing my routine regularly and taking those classes. Also I have been trying to be healthy in my eating habits - helped along by one of my meds that kills your appetite! (Something good to come out of the whole thing!) I am within 1/2 lb of my end of April goal! Doc wants me down another 30, so I have set May for a total of 8. Slow but sure, I'll make it eventually.

Going to try to work outside a little today, it's sunny but chilly, but I have a whole planting bed that had gone to weeds and I think the best thing is to dig it all up and start over. I know I'll warm up doing the work, but I'm having a hard time willing myself out there. At least this year I feel better, like I can DO the work. I think back to last year and marvel at how wiped out I was from that surgery, This time last year, I was just getting my sea legs back, so to speak!

Barbara, a broken toe is so aggravating, it seems like such a little thing until it happens to you! Take care and don't push, I rebroke my toe once when I started doing too much too soon!

I have the heat on too, it is just too chilly here the last few days.

Jumpup, take care, good luck with the Dr.

It got chilly again this week--I actually put the heat on because the house was just cold to me.

I am progressing with the broken toe--I have been basically sitting without shoes for a couple of days and I was able to wear shoes and walk for about an hour this morning--without severe pain or limping. SO I am getting there. I am also very antsy to start exercising again. I really miss it as part of my regular routine. I may venture to the gym and just walk slowly for a little on the treadmill on Sunday.

Very cold today - woke up to snow on the car and the grass.

Had my Qigong class yesterday and my swim class today. End of the semester, classes start again the end of May. I would do yardwork to make up for it, if it weren't so darn cold!

Barbara, it is so funny - this type of overuse injury occurs in women who are pregnant or just given birth and women who are middle aged! My daughter had the same thing after my GD was born. Go figure, I am not the pregnant one.

Frannie! Another Wounded Warrior! Good for you for doing what you can!

I may make my April goal after all - a little more than a week and only one pound to go! If the weather would lighten up just a little, it would be easier to get the yardwork in.

Temps have dropped into the 40s and 50s with possible SNOW overnight! And it's gotten so windy (hang on to your hats, kids) it's even hard to drive anywhere let alone walk. I'm just hoping the roof holds! Ah the vagaries of spring - talk about going with the flow. Spring in these parts will drive you crazy if you let it.

Good health to all (knock wood) and do what you can! I've gotten half my routine in, with the rest waiting for me to finish my coffee and be done posting. Great (gloomy, overcast, windy) Day to all!

Jumpup, we all have to go with the flow, life events always make things a bit different. If you can keep your eating under control with Easter and a wedding that is pretty good!

I have somehow gotten an overuse injury to my wrist, it is so painful. I have not been able to do any upper body ST for a few weeks now. Not that I am going gangbusters with that but I have been getting some ST in each week. So I am just focusing on lower body and core for the next few weeks. It is slowly getting better but they say it will take about 6 - 8 weeks before it is healed.

Barbara and Berry, our Wounded Warriors, make sure you don't overdo anything!

Berry, I sprained and resprained my ankle a few years back, I swear it was 2 years before it felt right again,

I set myself an easy goal for April, because I knew Easter and my niece's wedding weekend would throw off the body cycles. I wasnt wrong, I've kept my eating mostly controlled and have been doing my morning routines plus yard work, but I am not sure I'm going to make my end of month goal. I admit I've slacked off a little bit, and haven't gained any, but I really need to buckle down and get serious. I still have 30 lbs to lose to be where doc wants me.

Must be spring fever, can't seem to settle myself down.

emoticon I hope that heals quickly for you, Barbara!

I am just now starting to work out again after spraining my ankle on Apr. 2nd. (I've been afraid of falling.) -- I could have done some upper body ST, but did not get to the gym for it. And walking is usually my "go-to" and the ankle was swelling so much when doing so, I decided it needed time to heal.
...and so it goes!

Well, last night when I was getting ready for bed, I broke my toe! Funny thing is that it is one that I had broken quite badly years ago. This is not that bad a break but it hurts and it means I can't exercise for a week, possibly more.

I live outside Cleveland, Ohio where there is an ongoing debate over whether we are part of the midwest. In my opinion, Cleveland is the end of the East Coast and all the rest of Ohio is midwest. Anyway, no lemon trees for me. I grew one once as a houseplant, it was pretty, but never once even THOUGHT about setting fruit.

Good luck!

About to start my daily routine and then get outside and mow the lawn! I've been slack with my food choices the last couple days - need to tighten that up again, before there is any lasting damage on the scale!

We do have lemon bushes, lime bushes (dwarf, in pots), mandarin & Valencia oranges + a limequat. All have to kept in a greenhouse over the fall & winter. Yes we do get fruit on a regular basis, although small. We live in the Pacific North"wet"!

Good luck!

Woke up early and went with a friend to one of the local garden clubs for her to drop off some plants for tomorrow's plant sale. I scored a lemon tree from her and hope that in the next year or so I will be able to harvest my own lemons! I worked on my garden for a couple of hours and went inside once it got to hot to work outside. After lunch I finally got to the gym and did a hour workout on the upright bike. When I got home the husband and I decided to go to Applebee's for dinner. I got the Pepper Crusted Sirloin with Whole Grains which was pretty good and is low calorie. As much as I would have loved to have a beer I just had water with lemon to drink. I did have some garlic bread sticks with my dinner so I guess I wasn't that good. I decided to have a few raspberry whole wheat bars for a snack/dessert which I have to say put me over my calorie count but I am ok with that as they definitely satisfied my cravings for sweets. If I had only two I would have kept in my caloric range but oh well. I will attempt to be good this weekend, that's all I can do.

It was a busy day today w/ DD & then went to dinner w/ DH. We ran a few errands afterwards, so this is the first I've checked in all day.
The weather for the weekend here is supposed to be sunny, windy & maybe the high 70's. I have several things "to do" planned:
* planning to get back on track w/ exercise (sprained ankle improved)
* stop at the fabric store
* cut squares for quilt
* get gifts ready for upcoming college graduations (3)
* work on meals again (a never-ending reality)

The wedding is over, I made my goal weight, all the family is gone, and I'm having trouble getting back in the groove, too.

I made myself do my 60 sinkups a few minutes ago, I am so tight and stiff, it was harder to do than usual. I skipped my Qigong class this morning for no good reason other than I felt too tired to go. I have my swim class tomorrow - hope I don't back out of that one, too.

We'll all snap out of this shortly, I am sure! Keep posting, it helps.

I am struggling right now - work is really stressful and tiring and I am choosing to skip exercise and to just go home and collapse even though I KNOW that the pool would be both relaxing and beneficial. Gotta snap out of it.

Been quilting instead of exercising... Probably should find some "balance," but the weather is gray and I am healing from a sprained ankle.

At least I'm eating better (in general) w/ extra veggies on a daily basis.

Anyone who can get back on track and pull themselves out of a depression has my vote! Good Job!

I took Friday as a rest day, but got back into it today. Only a week to go til niece's wedding, my sister is getting nervous - I imagine the bride is insane by now!

I had an awesome day - started with a LOT of really good buys on things we needed and also stuff we wanted - lunch at Chinese buffet with my son, my Claire and her Mommy. Then to Costco and a few other places to shop some more. We got home and were half-way through unloading the groceries when the phone rang - my step-nephew called, he needed a ride home. I wasn't overly thrilled but there was no question we would do it as he was stuck about 10 miles from home. As I was about to hang up, he said he wanted to invite my son and I to dinner out. Since he has been struggling with depression and unemployment and a few other situations, THAT was a surprise. He is now working and he insisted on treating us to a delicious steak dinner. So, today, we ate out twice and both times with special company. It is the first time in well over a year that my nephew has been upbeat and REALLY good company. I love his dearly but have had to show some TOUGH love because he was just drifting and it was so nice to see him upbeat and looking happy. While I go away for Easter, he is even going to church with my son - I am really happy to see him pulling out of his dark places.
