Okay guys, last post here, after all it is Sept! I just posted my 1st workout in our fall fitness challenge, I challenge you all to join in! I need to add strength training, it is the piece I am missing from before my mom came to live with me and I need to work on getting back into the habit. I just posted in another team that it seems so easy to develop bad habits and so difficult to get into good ones! Totally not fair. I was talking with my SIL and he was saying that he eats to live and not the other way around, he didn't really care what he was eating. OMG, I wish I could say that. I am instead trying to learn to live with who I am and how I eat. I am definitely a food junkie and am trying to learn how to make that fit with a healthy life style.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Labor Day if you live in the states and just a wonderful day otherwise!

Sorry guys, I am posting the challenge to the challenge forum, I got it all written and then evidently hit the wrong key and the whole thing was gone! I got busy at work then and couldn't type it all again so I am trying to get it up.

The gist is we will start on September 1st, each week we should complete 3 days with strength training, posting the date and what we did. (or something like that) I will have a template that you can edit just adding more days. We will go through November 30th. I plan on giving goodies to those who participate for different things and we can post updates here so everyone will know what is happening. I hope a lot of us participate!

Hi Ladies of a Certain Age!
I'm going to sign on for the strength training but I have no idea what it is, really. I assume weights are involved? I have a 28-y.o. daughter who's been bugging me to do some weights. I'll get her help.
Cool!

Strength training sound good. I need to look at some workouts. SP used to have a good library, but I don't know how to access them anymore. I think they have changed things around a bit. emoticon emoticon

I am game for a strength training challenge - let's make it 10-30 minutes three times a week - that would be a reasonable goal and it would also allow each of us to choose our own actual exercise, based on our limitations and the options we have available for us.

Nancypat, it is always better to err on the side of caution when talking about falls. Think about the nordic walkers, they use poles so a cane can't be anymore of a problem.

Diana, glad you are better, take care!

It has been quite awhile since I posted, I feel bad but it has been so busy at work that the last thing I want to do when I am home is get on a computer a type. Things are settling down now that school is started (we are in our third week) and everyone's computer issues are mostly resolved. I have one issue I have to deal with and no one seems to be able to find a resolution. I am waiting for the company to get back to me.

I joined a BLC, I am hoping to get kick started into a good program of exercise and healthy eating this fall. I used to belong to a team but with mom it was just too much time.

Does anyone want a fall challenge? We could start the 1st of September and go until the end of November. I was thinking about an exercise challenge, maybe strength training of some kind. For women our age strength training is really one of the best things we can do for ourselves, muscle helps to rev up the metabolism, it builds bones, and it gives you more stamina. Let me know what you guys think! If everyone here is up for it I will send out a team email to see if we can't drum up more activity!

Glad you are able to walk again - I have been walking using a cane and while I probably could do without it, I figure I really want the stabilizing factor - would rather be SAFE than fall and maybe end up needing surgery or being completely laid up for a while - I use it for stability and have gotten so I can walk quite far and fast with it.

I got my doctor's okay to start walking again and started yesterday. It was harder than expected, but I'll just work my way back into it. I still have significant soreness/swelling and am wiped out physically today. The good news is I didn't gain while I couldn't workout. Hope everyone has a great day. How are things going with you?

I have problems with my knees anyway, so twisting it would have been a nightmare.

Sorry you were hurt and hope you are healing quickly - I dread when I twist my knee because it makes me unstable.

Hi All,

I was walking the golf course on Thursday and took a fall. I slipped on some sand in the path and twisted my left knee. I haven't exercised since then, but am getting better and hope to be back to my normal routine Monday. I tried some new recipes from SP that I really like. They help me keep things interesting and more fun. What have you been working on?

My daughter had a big golf tournament this weekend and I caddied for her. The course was very hilly and hard to walk. It took 5.5 hours to walk each day. Needless to say I more than got my exercise in. I'm finally home relaxing. I'm not doing any exercise tomorrow. I need to recuperate!

What have you been doing to reach your goals?

How is everyone's motivation for their goals?

Certain times of the year work into my needs better than others. Fortunately, this is one of them, the school year is about to begin. From now until May I will be much more active physically. I walk the golf course with my daughter which can take anywhere between ninety minutes and four hours. Today we will be one the lower end of the range as we are only walking nine instead of eighteen. I'm hoping to lose the five pounds I gained over summer and keep on going! My eating has been within my calorie range as well.

Usually the way here in California, but with the drought we are having, it is making fresh produce much more expensive.

Here in NE Fl we will jus be getting into the high temps. I am looking forward to August as we are into a new season for fresh veggies. Here we have so much available for more months than in other parts of the country. I am planting a new season in the garden
