None here either!

THanksgiving is just my son and I. For a couple of years, some friends of his came down from out of town to visit her family, and we had THanksgiving 2.0 here the next day. We are doing it again thisyear, so I will have two celebrations. My son actually wanted me to make two turkeys but I put the kibosh on that--I will make a larger than usual bird on Thursday, and then we can have the leftovers on Friday (which we would anyway!), with all the usual trimmings of a regular dinner.

After a couple days of lovely weather, Halloween is going to be stormy and windy! Some of the nearby burgs are moving trick or treat to the weekend. Well, I guess that's good, but I remember from when my daughter was young that that is not quite as satisfying!

No candy in my house.

I feel like I am on the brink of breaking out - getting exercise AND eating on track. So unfortunate that it is happening at the wrong time of year, when it gets harder to get out and all those holidays!

It ought to be fairly low key here this year - in fact I'm counting on it. My niece is in Boston going to grad school and can't afford to come home for T'giving. My brother, in NJ, will be going to Boston - and my sister and bil are thinking of flying up too! I hope they do, It would be a nice little vacay for them.

But that leaves me and my nephew at home. He goes to his wife's family - and that leaves me all alone! Is okay!! I won't overeat! And if the weather's good, I'll spend some time in the park!

Happy Halloween all!

Here Comes the Sun!

I had indulgence yesterday--I bought a chocolate bar and ate it--far too much! But, I guess I had been craving chocolate and I do feel better now!

I am having a few issues with getting moving on the exercises. I normally do not have this issue. Who would think that 5 or 10 minutes at a time are causing me issues. I need to get moving and get some strength going!

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday and Halloween Eve! So I'm on day 5 of being back on the wagon. I've been very good about measuring out my portion sizes, picking the right food and making sure that I drink enough water. I'm not getting the right amount yet, but getting better. I'm taking our dog for 2 walks daily....15 minutes in the morning and about 30 in the evening....not really what I call working out (remember that I'm not fond of that) but it's a start....I'm also making sure that we pick up the pace, which she's not happy about since she likes to graze and see what she can find to eat...ugh...I started taking stock of my winter gear and thankfully have have some nice warm stuff to keep me going through the winter months.

I also made a one-sided bet with my husband that I would be down 11 pounds by the time we leave for Vegas at the end of February. He even wrote it down and made copies for me, so I keep two at home and one in the office to remind me to stay on track. He knows that I haven't been happy lately with the way I look. He's doing everything he can, support wise to make sure I stay on track....he's such a sweet guy. Last night he wanted pop corn. He knew I was in my calorie range and that I had stopped eating for the night. So he asked if it would bother me if he popped some. (it's my weakness...lol...even though it's airpopped) I said it probably would but I would try and ignore it but to go and make it anyway. So of course the smell was getting to me so I went in the kitchen, grabbed one of my measuring cups and a snack baggie and put some in to take with me to work today and that helped be through it.

I just really have to watch that night time eating, that's what really gets me....

Anyway, enough of my longwinded post. I hope everyone has a great day and keep moving!!!

I am feeling much better - the mouth is healing nicely. I had a pretty good day today despite a student who had a really bad day - whiny, out of sorts, and aggressive - I feel sorry for these kids when they can't tell us what is wrong. Went to the pool and had a good workout. I am feeling pretty good considering everything and wish everyone the best and most wonderful rest of the week.

Ruby, awareness is step one. Good luck.

Kind of dreary today--we had "rain" yesterday--the cement got a little wet but that was it.

October is rolling around to the last few days.... I turned 50 this month! I had to leave the group through 49 and am joining my awesome 50+ females!!!!

My weight has only been increasing the last two years. I went to the doc and after getting on the scale have had that rude awakening I've been waiting for. March 2012 I got married, moved to Montana and have not been very good about avoiding my bad habits. Even though I exercised, I have gained 50 pounds in two years. Bad heel and elbow have also contributed to this.

But I am renewed and ready to welcome the holidays with weight loss in mind! Tracking my food and working on healing of the body parts so I can go for it like I did four years ago.

Way to go Berry! Planning meals is SUCH a good idea. I am so disorganized lately, I haven't been doing all the prep work, I've been going at it rather hit or miss.

It's the eating that's getting me, too. (I blame the prednisone.) I really need to get back on the beam, or I'll look like a whale next time I see my grandchildren!

Good Morning and Happy Monday to all! Feeling a whole lot better this morning then over the weekend...go figure since I had to go to work today...I got up a few minutes early this morning, bundled up and walked the dog for about 25 minutes...suprised that when I added it to the tracker, I burned almost 100 calories!! Was not expecting that one since my average pace was 2.7mph....I don't have to rush home tonight and cook dinner since we have leftovers from yesterday so I plan on taking her for a walk again this evening...baby steps.... emoticon

Jump up thanks! I hope you had a good Sunday too! Barbara, you go girl? Nancy and Grace hope you feel better soon!
I am really enjoying walking with the ipod cranked up! Music just seems to make things better. I just started on Spark about a week ago and that is when I started walking. It's funny how when you start exercising you reap benefits pretty quickly.
Well Wishes to everyone!

I didn't have them pulled at midnight - left house at midnight, got to the place and had to wait for a ticket to get seen, then spent all day moving from one point to another until FINALLY after all was said and done, I got them pulled - it was a two day FREE clinic and even though they didn't open until 6 a.m. and I was there at 1:45 or 2 o'clock, I was still number 694 - they had dozens of dentists who volunteered their time and skill to do various services. My son Ed and I took what we could and were very VERY grateful. For the cost of a LONG day for me and 2 LONG days for Ed, we got 3 teeth filled, 3 teeth pulled, a partial made, 2 cleanings, x-rays for both of us, and a goodie bag with free tooth brushes and paste. They used about 20 shots of lidocaine for the two of us, gave us antibiotics and pain pills all for free too. Oh, and I didn't have to take time off of work to have it done either.

I wasn't complaining, but it DID make for a very long day for both of us yesterday.

Mouth is less sore, jaw hurts mostly from the efforts to get the roots out when they were all tangled up with others. The actual sites of the extraction aren't sore.

Today, I mostly rested and sipped water and warm soup - did some walking, but not much.

I hope I feel better tomorrow.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Sunday! I think my body is trying to fight off something today. Headache, tummy ache, chills. Feeling kind of icky. Actually started last night. Thought it was stress from an argument I had with my mother. woke up feeling a lot better, until my husband want flat bread pizzas for lunch...ugh...thank goodness dinner was in the crock pot at 9AM this morning

Well, I am feeling virtuous--I blew off exercise yesterday because I didn't feeling like getting up, but I forced myself out of bed today and went to the gym. Other than that, a very quiet day ahead.

I was thinking it was two weeks before the time changed - So confusing.

I know it is weird but I had a relaxing day - weird because I started out at midnight getting up to go to a dental clinic. I didn't return home until nearly 7 and spent the entire time at the dental clinic and had 2 teeth pulled. I also read 2 books and visited with lots of interesting people. I got dental work done by skilled professionals and it didn't cost me any money and it was relatively painless - one tooth that they pulled had a root that was entangled with another tooth and it took a LOT of work to finally get it out (and they HOPE they got it all)

Hope everyone's day was joyous and relaxing - dental work is not something I would CHOOSE to do BUT it did bring me joy to have this work done without going broke.

Hey everyone! I just joined this team tonight and posted a little something on the intro board...Jumpup, where in Ohio do you live? I'm in Cleveland, near the lake also...we had had rain, sleet and snow pellets...or what the weather people here call Grauple (sp) or something like that....either way it was no fun walking the dog and getting pelted with it...lol

Well, I'm in Ohio, along Lake Erie and most of the city got snow 2 days in a row! Not unusual, but not what we expect every year, either.

Both snow falls skipped my neighborhood for which I am grateful, since I haven't gotten the snow shovel out yet.

By next week we'll be back in the 50s and 60s where we are supposed to be this time of year. Of course, November is a different story. Anything can happen in November.

Clocks change this weekend. Maybe I'll be able to get my walks in again - for a while anyway.

Did my sinkups.

Great that you gals got up and walked! emoticon I finally got myself to walk 30 minutes for the last 2 days. I am hoping that this is the beginning of a significant weight loss and then maintenance.
Wow snow already? What state is this that it is snowing so soon? I am from North Carolina and the temp dropped to 40's today, but no precipitation.

Barbara, I am glad for you - a good night's sleep can be so... delicious.

And a walk, proud of you, girl!

I gotta get my tush into gear. I haven't been doing my morning walk for the last week or so - it's still dark at the time I was going! And the rest of the city woke up to several inches of "no-accumulation" on the ground this morning. Skipped my neighborhood, for which I am grateful, but I still didn't get a walk in, LOL.

I can't seem to get into full Spark Mode, so I am just trying to maintain for a while, until that motivation strikes me. So far so good, anyway.

The only good thing about driving in snow is after it has stopped and the plows have been through.

I am with you on the gray rainy days. I've always felt that anything is possible if the sun is shining. (but I don't like the high heat, either, LOL - so hard to please.)

They are saying we have a possiblily of snow today, but no accumulation. Well, it wouldn't be unusual. I can remember many a Halloween that were cold and messy. You learn early here to find costumes for kids that are big enough to fit a snowsuit under!

I want to finish up the advance cooking today and try to get a walk in - with this no-accumulation snow. If not, then my yoga dvd. And the strenth training one if I can find it.

I grew up where snow was just a part of winter life. (No, I didn't drive in it a lot. I do have some stories to tell, and back then it was simply an "adventure.") I absolutely LOVE it!
emoticon I can come up with a list of "wonderful" if you want, but you may not want that?!?

Where I live now, we are FAR more likely to experience gray days, clouds, rain, and other dreary conditions. I would take snow ANY day over all the constant gray & rain.

I like snow as long as it is enough to close schools and I don't have to drive the winding mountain roads.

I see you like snow.... I do too! I attribute it to the fact that I was born in December. But most say it is just wierd. Either way... yay! Fitness has never been a natural thing for me. However, I am reshaping that part of my mind (& body), one step at a time. I have been doing daily fitness since June, this year. I have recently been allowing myself 1-day off, as I am finally feeling confident enough to know that a day off will not get me off track. Much caring & encouragement to you, as you step your journey. emoticon

I am sorry you had a rough day yesterday. I guess it is better that it was something like a migraine that eventually went away than something that would hang around and disrupt you for a longer time. Take it easy and take care of yourself.

Had a rough day yesterday - migraine with the weirdest aura leading up to it that I've ever had. Of course it affected my vision, making me think my inflammatory disease was flaring up. That made me pretty unhappy. But when I could keep water down and could take some ibuprofen and get some sleep and felt better when I woke up, I realized it was probably just a migraine.

Today is fine.

Got lots of steps in, although not as a real "walk". Did my sinkups, but I don't want to push it too far today, going to bed early.

My exercise has been hit a couple of times in the last two weeks. I have been having such a hard time getting going on Saturdays so I skipped the gym a couple of times, and this morning I skipped it because I went to a seminar about Medicare--which I will soon be eligible for. That excites me--especially since I no longer have gigantic insurance premiums to pay!!

I guess I'm an oddball because I love the snow. I know it's a pain to travel in, but there is nothing more peaceful to me than to go for a walk at night as the snow is falling. Of course, I don't mind a good snowball fight during the day either. Somehow, I'll never grow up! :-)

I'm finally hoping to get back into a routine since dh returned to work today after being a member of the gov't furlough. The last 2 weeks have been spend doing things with him, although I did make it to the Y 3 times last week. This week we've done a lot of cleaning around the house and have been out moving around, so I've had some activity, but no real exercise. Time to get a routine going now--look out Y and bicycle, here I come!

I really am dreading the snow this year. I wish my daughter would finally break down and say it's okay if I move to AZ to be close to them. (I secretly thinks she likes being so far away. I think that's actually NOT a secret, LOL.)

Right now, I have to find the motivation to go out and bring the garbage cans in.

Barbara, it seems like this fall has been like that. We don't get 100 degree days in the fall but it is hot and then it gets cold and then hot again. We are finally settling down into weather that at least resembles fall, it is in the mid 70s which for Chicago is a bit warm for October but I will take it. Next week fall is supposed to move in for real. I love warm weather and I used to love Fall but now it just reminds me winter is coming! It is so cold and snowy here, I just don't like it, I did not grow up with snow that stayed on the ground for weeks and that could be measured in feet!

We went from 100 degree weather to 65 degree weather in the space of about 10 days. A little too abrupt for me!!

I went to a trivia night at a restaurant last night. It was fun, and since my team won, it was more fun!

What lovely sentiments, Frannie. I'm glad it was such a joyous time.

We've got another beautiful day in the neighborhood today - now I have to mow the back yard. I didn't realize how hard it would be on my back! It's been a long time since I have had to mow lawns, LOL. And I now live among a bunch of lawn fanatics! They just finished fall fertilizing (oops, I have all the weeds), and they mow twice a week. Seems like they groom their yards blade by blade. I'm NEVER gonna fit in, LOLOL!

No time like the present.

Thank you all but it was not a sad occasion. It was a joyful occasion full of memories of our parents and what they meant to us. We reminisced and laughed. When we went to scatter the ashes we all realized how totally clueless we were about the whole process and ended up cracking each other up. My father would have loved it! He was so incorrigible and loved to tease, it was perfect! We had their dogs ashes too, my mom lost both dogs within about 6 months of my dad and he wanted all their ashes scattered together. We went through sad and grieved but felt this was a time to celebrate, we had great parents and they loved us all so much. They were wonderful grandparents and my kids were so glad we were able to do this for them both. My parents loved the Ozarks, mom grew up there so all in all it ended up being just what I wanted.

I learned over time that memory and family is how we keep our loved ones with us. I started grieving the loss of my mom before she passed this last July. I began to lose her in March and lost pieces of her until she died. By the time she finally passed the main emotion I felt was relief. It took a few weeks to feel her loss but it is not an overwhelming feeling, just a sad feeling of loss. Being able to be with my brothers and my kids helped me remember her and my father joyfully and that is what I strive to do.

Frannie - I'm so sorry - I missed that one sentence about the reason why you were in the Ozarks. I feel just awful - what a sad time it was for you. I just thought you were on vacation.

So awful to lose a member of the family - my family lost four men in about 2 years. It was five years ago - but it was such an unnerving time.

All my sympathy and prayers.

Frannie, what a sad occasion for a wonderful vacation. I hope it was not an upsetting time.

Long live sink-ups!

I got one set of 11 in this morning. I have been experimenting with different angles to make them harder, plus I am trying to see "how many" regulation pushups I can do. Ha ha ha! I can make about a 2" dip maybe 5 times! And oh, how I feel it the next day! Which makes me know I need to do this more often.

Nancy - you've got a full plate! If it's working, don't mess with it! You go girl!

I plan to mow the lawn this afternoon, and see just how many steps it takes.

Have a great one.

Hey all, just got back from vacation in the Ozarks. My brothers came up, my husband, daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, son and his girlfriend all went. It was so much fun and so relaxing. We all got together to scatter my mom's and dad's ashes. My mom grew up down there and they always loved that part of the country. We were staying in a cabin on Table Rock Lake and it was just beautiful. I did not exercise much but getting up and down the hill from the cabin to the lake was quite a workout!

I hope everyone is trying to do a challenge, maybe both. I am doing the pushups and going to work on fruits and veggies. We did not eat very healthy while I was gone but it was only for a long weekend. My family loves biscuits and gravy, and that was something my mom made for them. So I had to make them one of the mornings. It was nice, we talked about mom and her sausage gravy. They told me mine were as good as mom's (I learned from her) but that was high praise indeed!

So I am doing "sink-ups" as they have been called here, I can do 3 sets of 15 right now.

Nancy - I know what you mean about wearing a bathing suit until it is completely worn out! A common practice at the Y was to wear a pair of nylon underpants under your suit when you finally decided you were showing off a little too much, LOL!

The chlorine resistant suits are not inexpensive, but at least they last a little longer, if you treat them right. And NEVER put them in the water extractor!

In a class full of (mostly) ladies who are there for the same reasons you are, who cares what you look like in a suit! Some wear lycra compression shorts and tank tops, but I find that to be too restricting for the aqua jog class I took. Boy I miss it!

Got my mile walk in this morning and one set of pushups. Have to finish my meal planning for the next couple weeks and start some meal prep.

Fall has definitely arrived here - also must get my indoor plants back inside for the winter and I must do it today!

Have a great one!

I never stopped wearing a bathing suit - if people don't like how I look or looked, they didn't have to look at me. I long ago decided most people really don't waste a lot of time worrying about ME or MY BODY - they are too concerned about their own - many of the women in our class wear shorts and shirts instead of suits though. Those of us who are regular wear our suits until they tear, fade, and simply disintegrate - chlorine is hard on our bathing suits but we are DIE HARDS and so we accept that and wear our suits out.

I love my fitness center membership - I could do it without the membership but it is the only place with an indoor pool and I would MUCH rather exercise in the pool than anywhere else. Today I had a great workout and realized how much the month of September cost me. I was super busy and allowed myself to get stressed out, also because of scheduled trips, injuries, and meetings, I missed my weekend pool time since Labor Day - I felt SOOOOOOO good today after my pool time. I have walked, exercised in the pool during the week, and even in the hotel pool on my trip, BUT it wasn't the same. I am definitely a creature of habit and really felt better when I got my POOL TIME back.

Barbara - I know what you mean - I tend to hibernate, too. Especially, since I can feel Winter sneaking up on me.

I just got the cheapest treadmill I could find on sale - it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but I don't need all the extras.

I used to like to walk outside - more interesting and loved the fresh air, but can't depend on the weather being nice, and sometimes dogs on the lose intimidate me.

It's not that I can't--it's that I tend to hibernate unless I have outside motivation to go out.

Well, I miss my gym membership. It did get me out of the house, too, Barb. But when I am operating on all cylinders (not ALL that often, LOL!) I can get out and do my walks and indoor exercises. It's not that I don't want to.........

Have a great one!

I would love to have my own treadmill, but I can't afford it. The one good thing about going to the gym is just that--it forces me to leave my house!

Woke up at 3am again. WHAT is going on????

Think I'm going to jump on the bike today instead of a walk. Time to confuse the muscles, I guess.

Must be the change of seasons, we're all complaining about the same lack of motivation/energy/get up and go. I always feel better if I take my B vitamins and I've been out for a while - maybe time to get some!

Just had a bone scan (prednisone is notorious for sucking calcium out of your bones) and the doc recommended I take calcium and Vit D supplements, even though I "only" have 'age appropriate' osteopena. That's one of my motivations for walking - it helps build bone.

Have a rockin' day!

I have done better about getting some exercise since hubby bought me a treadmill on sale. I keep it in a bedroom so there is no excuses about using it.

I used to go to the gym, and it seemed to waste about 2 hours out of my day to travel there, workout and go back home.

Now that I workout at home, I can do it in my grubbies and no one will see me.

If I'm doing well, then once I get to the gym, I usually do more than I intended. However for the past 6 months, I've had bouts of getting to the gym, but not able to have the energy to get out of the car and engage. emoticon Still looking for answers, but seems like hit or miss with nothing definitive.

The past couple of times to the gym, it has been nice to briefly engage with older people who are maintaining activity and working on strength & flexibility. It gives me something to keep aiming for...

When I had a walking buddy, we did the same thing. We started off walking a loop in the park, so we knew about how far we walked. I still am conscious of that for tracking purposes.

Did not feel like getting out of bed this morning because it was so comfortable, but I finally did and then sat in traffic to get to the gym. I did an abbreviated session because I was just not feeling it. At least I got there and did something, so it is still good. I guess that my streak of waking up early and getting up after my trip back East has ended, lol!

Yay, Barbara!!! Good for you, getting all out in the sunshine!

I did my .84 mile loop this morning. Very low energy today. Woke up at 3am and never got back to sleep. That is just not enough zzz's at night. I see a nap in my immediate future!

When I had a walking buddy, we were both concerned with how far we had walked. I got in the habit of tracking it in miles and I guess I just never stopped. My speed varies so much that I can't use that as a guide for distance. Today for example, that less than a mile walk seemed like it took about 2 hours (really about 30 minutes), just 'cause I am moving in slow motion today.

Taking a day off of the 'ups' - all kinds.

Only thing on my agenda today is to get the trash out later, so I guess I will keep putting things away (once I figure out where 'away' is!)

Have a great day!

Jumpup, I was a good girl this morning, too, and actually took a 20 minute walk before I went out to do my grocery shopping. I just walked around the neighborhood, so it wasn't far in terms of distance, but I was outside, moving, so a win!

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood! Nice mild temps, sun streaming through puffy clouds. I know this because I got my walk in this morning! (yay, me) Added another cul de sac and made 1.5 miles. Still takes too long, but as I get into it more, the pace will pick up, I am sure. Gonna hang at the 1.5 mark for a while until I get the time down to about 25 minutes.

Did my pushup attempts, feeble though they are, LOL! Worse today than yesterday - maybe I take a day in between for those. I am determined though, that I will be able to do at least one down and up regulation pushup by the end of ..... well, eventually!

Have a great one!

I can't believe it is October already. We started the month with summer like weather, which is a switch from the beautiful temps and sunshine of September.

Nancy, happy belated birthday. I pray God gives you a great month during October. Hopefully you can think of the happy times instead of the losses you suffered. My dad died the day after thanksgiving and my mom died on December 1 (several years apart), so Thanksgiving is always a hard time for me. As the time approaches, I try to think of all the great memories we made while they were living and thank God that he gave me such wonderful parents who helped me be the person I am today.

Nancy, I see you just had a birthday! Happy Birthday. What a beginning to such a sad month for you. I am sorry you have had so much loss in your life. I've lost some key people, too and I know what you mean about the shadow being there. I count it a good year when anniversaries go by and I have to remind myself.

Of course I posted in Sept, but I am here now.

Thanks, I am sure it will pass - time has helped to heal some of the sadness but there is always a bit of a shadow - I plan to be too busy to dwell on the sadness.

October is not my favorite month - anniversaries of my son, mother, and father's deaths all fall in October and then there are also 3 nephews who died during October and my significant other. It is a rough month of anniversaries. September is a great month and I am always sorry to see it go.
