Congratulations on being down another pound!!!

PEGGIE57:
In the future, would you please post your loss/gain and not just your weight; this will help the other members know what the tally should be. I have reported a two pound gain for you this time (from my 4/15/11 post, your weight was 229; 231-229=2 pounds). Remember, your weight can fluctuate in either direction on any given day. Since there was a gain this time around, drink lots of water and continue to watch your food intake and exercise (both cardio and strength); if you're staying within the ranges recommended, you'll probably see a drop this next week.

TERRIAM:
Way to go on dropping another two pounds since your last post!!!

Group Weight Tally (CORRECTION): 4852.8 (from TWNOMWE's 04/18/11 post) - 2.0 (PEGGIE57) + 2.0 (TERRIAM) = 4852.8

Ladies:

For new members joining this thread (and as a reminder for the rest of us), I thought it might be a good idea to once again mention the basics for tracking our weigh-ins on this thread:

1. To make it easier on everyone, please post the current tally with each post.
2. All weight losses (added to tally) and gains (subtracted from tally) are done manually.
3. If this is your first time for posting here, you can count the total loss since joining SP.
4. Regarding the tally: Just like the math teachers used to tell us in school, please show your work; this will not only make it easier for the next person, but will allow them to review your addition/subtraction and make corrections if necessary.*
5. If the person before you didn't report the group weight tally, please go back to the last post reporting it and bring it up to date. If you're just quickly stopping by the thread and don't have time to do this, just leave the tally off (as many have done in the past) and hopefully the next one to post will have time to play catch up.
6. If you catch an error, please correct it asap. So that someone else can check too, please note where the error is from. *
7. If someone asks a question, please respond if you have time; if you have a question and no one has responded, ask again.

Thanks,

Kat

* For those of you who are new, or are a little worried about hurting someone's feelings, don't be afraid to correct any mistakes. I can assure you, I've made many of them in the past; matter of fact, I probably have the record for the most math mistakes on this thread.--It's sometimes been hard for me to believe that math was one of my best (and favorite) subjects in school!

Well, you may not have been able to report a change on 03/28/11 (136 pounds), but you certainly made up for it a week later (04/05/11; congratulations on losing two more pounds!!!

TCAT47:
Way to drop another 3.6 pounds!!!!

MINCHIGIRL:
Congratulations on losing five pounds during the last three weeks!!! That was great that you realized weighing yourself too often discouraged you and that you made some adjustments; it looks like sticking with the plan and letting the results be whatever they were has paid off!!!

SHEL2BTHIN:
Welcome to this post and for losing thirteen pounds (170-157) since joining SparkPeople!!! As for answers to your questions, please see my next posted message.

BACKYARDER1:
Congrats on dropping another pound!!!

TERRIAM:
Woohoo to the two pounds in two weeks!!

KARENSPAIN:
Welcome to SparkPeople, the 50+ Females team, and to this thread. Since your weight ticker showed a starting weight on 180 and you reported you weigh 170, I picked up a five pound loss; if this isn't correct, please adjust the tally. Please see my next post for info on how to post your weight changes to this thread.

TWNOMWE:
Congratulations on dropping 0.4 pounds!!!! That lose makes you 0.4 pounds closer to your goal; those small loses add up!

GIHUTSON:
Way to drop another 0.5 pounds; congrats on losing 24.5 pounds (180.0-165.5) since joining SP!!!

PEGGIE57:
Congratulations on being down twenty pounds since after Christmas (249-229) and dropping two pant sizes!!!! Since I don't think you reported your loss on this thread before, I'm going to add the twenty; if this is incorrect, please adjust the tally.

Kat

Note: There were some weight losses that didn't get added into our tally and a change in the 04/10/11 tally (4807.9 + 0.4 = 4808.3); I've added the losses below. If someone has time, please check to be sure I didn't miss anyone and did it correctly.

Group Weight Tally: 4808.3 + 5.0 (04/03, MINCHIGIRL) + 13.0 (04/03, SHEL2BTHIN) + 5.0 (04/10, KARENSPAIN) + 0.5 (04/10, GIHUTSON) + 20.0 (PEGGIE57) = 4851.8

Hi all, This is the first time I have posted here and I am not sure what's what??? Is there a certain day posting is done or is it when I would normally weigh? It looks like we post weight and add it to the total from the prior person. Just don't want to miss up a system here. I have been under the radar and not posting for awhile. Im tracking fitness and nutrition though. Just drop s line and let me know so I can come play with everyone! Thanks.....

Molly (TWNOMWE):
Congratulations on being on the move again and dropping another pound. Hey, I'll take losing inches any day! Remember, it is only through the cardio exercises that you'll drop pounds; the strength exercising is for just that, strengthening your muscles. However, both types of exercises are needed. If you're doing lots of cardio and think the amount of exercise is not reflected in your weight loss, try changing your cardio routine. (For example, if you're walking only, try doing a walk/run or walk/jog/run.) Glad to read you don't have a problem with the soda drinking; but, maybe the suggestion was helpful to someone else reading the message. I think a lot of us probably have the mindless, stress eating situation (I know I do!) and the not posting on a daily basis may cause an inaccurate view of your eating habits. I think our minds want to forget what (and how much) we've eaten and so I've tried to get myself in the habit of at least writing down what I eat right away; that way when I post days later, I know I've been more accurate in what's reported. Posting daily (and as soon as possible) is highly recommended; though it's a little time consuming, especially in the beginning of the journey (once you have your foods entered, things will be faster when it comes to the daily entry), it is well worth the effort. The SP nutrition tracker not only keeps the daily record, it also allows you to make notes. I recommend you use that area to record your moods, health, etc (noting what set you off on your stress eating); then, when you're reviewing your records, you'll perhaps be able to spot some trigger points. Losing 0.5 - 1.5 pounds weekly is a good rate.

TWEETIEBIRDIE:
WooHoo to losing two pounds this week and a total of fifteen pounds since you restarted Spark!!! Since you're last reporting on this thread was on 02/16/11 (at that time you reported a two pound loss, bringing you to a 10 pound total loss.), instead of reporting two pounds, I think five pounds need to be picked up (If I missed a report between 2/16 and today of the three pounds, please adjust the tally.). Congrats on your progress!!!!

Thanks Kat for the advice. I am not a big soda drinker, I drink lots of water all the time.
My problem is mindless eating, when I am stressed I eat and forget to enter the food in the daily. I am working on this so that I know where the calories are coming.
Even though slow loss is better, I would like to see at least 0.5-1.5 lb loss per week.

Wish all you ladies a great weekend.

Welcome to the 50+ Females! team and to this thread. Hope you'll visit this thread often. We've got some pretty impressive members; if you need a pick-me-up and/or have time for some visiting, stop by their pages. Though you reported that you were 174 when you joined the team and are now 167, let's pick up your weight loss since you joined SparkPeople; since your beginning weight is 180 according to your weight ticker, I picked up thirteen pounds. From now on, report your weight loss/gain from the 167.

Thanks for stopping by and for your words of encouragement!

Molly (TWNOMWE):

Going back through the past posts, I don't see any posted message from you since 02/20/11; at that time you reported 177. Since you're now reporting 175, let's pick up the two pounds. If this isn't correct, please advise and we'll reverse the two pounds; but, I like to make sure we count everything we can. So, congratulation on being down two pounds since 02/20/11!

If you're staying on track and not seeing a change in the scales, you may be in a plateau (Go back and read my comment of 02/26/11.). If you're not staying on track, try to change one thing each day/week (For instance, if you're drinking soda too much, cut back one cup and replace it with water; continue to do it until you're no longer drinking soda or have cut back to the point you're only having it once in a while.). It doesn't have to be a big change; many small changes in the right direction will add up. No matter whether you're staying on track or not, don't let yourself get discouraged. It will take time; we didn't get out of shape overnight. Take one step at a time. Just like when a baby is learning to walk, we'll fall down more than once; so, pick yourself up, evaluate what you could have done differently, and move on. (I hope you realize I've had this discussion with myself more than once in my lifetime; just recently I had to report I'd gained weight.) Hang in there!

SP's here to help you learn how to make your lifestyle healthier. We're all on the same path. If we members can help you in any way, let us know.

Kat

Congratulations on losing another 1.6 pounds (1.4 on 03/14/11 and 0.2 on 03/21/11)!!!! We're happy to celebrate your loss too! Since I have been down with that stomach virus, I can certainly understand why your calorie range was too low; this just proves that eating less does not always equate to losing more pounds. Hope by the time you read this message you're feeling better!

BUTEAFULL:
Well, you may not have been able to report a loss on 03/14/11, but you sure stuck with it and was able to report a pound loss on 03/21/11. Way to press on!!!!

BACKYARDER1:
Congratulations on your half a pound loss (03/16/11); woohoo, to losing!!!

SARACYCLE:
Congratulations on losing five pounds (03/16/11)!!!! Referring to your comment "thinking I was this weight last week and needed to lose two pounds," hey, aren't those errors just the greatest?!?!?!? I loved your comment about watering yourself like a plant; it looks like the water (and the other activities) paid off. Though you weren't able to report any loss on 03/23/11, your two-week average is still more than your weekly two pound goal. If you've increased your cardio exercising, upping the calories is recommended.

POWER1938:
Thank you for your comments! I've heard from many of my friends that maintaining is almost,if not more, difficult than taking off the pounds; the tendency seems to be to continue to drop weight, even when it's not wanted. It sounds like watching the BMI and calories and fat is a good plan. If you decide to lose another five pounds, losing it at that very slow rate (1/4 pound steps) may work out great; this will allow you to practice the maintaining and make it easier to keep in line once you've taken off that five pounds. I think you've set a good challenge for yourself; you're comments most certainly prove this is a lifestyle and not just a "lose weight" diet. Please keep posting on this thread and let us know how things are going! I'm sure your comments will help those approaching their goals and give those of us who have a way to go something to think about regarding making lifestyle changes!

TERRIAM:
Way to take off another two pounds (03/21/11)!!!! It looks like changing your cardio (Group Kick class) and changing your daily calorie intake (still keeping within your 1200-1550 calorie range) helped!

Kat

NOTE: There was a typo error on the 03/14/11 post; 4766.2 + 1.4 = 4767.6, not 4767.7; therefore, the current total is 4776.3 instead of 4776.4. Thank you all for keeping up with the tally.

Yippee, down another 2 lbs this week! I've changed at least one day's cardio exercise this week, along with changing around my daily calories (always within my range of 1200-1550 though). This week my cardio change was trying a 'Group Kick' class.

Only lost .2 this week, but I have not been eating within my calorie range (too low) for the past 2-3 days due to feeling very queasy (family stomach virus going around) 4773.2 pounds +.2= 4773.4 pounds.

I am at the goal I originally set & am maintaining. Have been doing that for about a year (?) maybe a little longer. I'm finding that is as difficult as losing the weight! My idea is to keep my Body Mass Index within the normal range which for me is 141-157 lbs. If I approach the point where I am at a BMI of 24, I immediately start cutting fat grams & calories. I've been considering losing another 5 lbs in 1/4 lb steps. That would bring me to August & I would be at the lowest weight of my adult life. I don't know why I want to do this at the age of 73...maybe just to challenge myself. What do you think???? emoticon

Thanks for stopping by the thread and leaving a comment. I think it's great that you and others stop by on more than their weigh-in days. As for the posting of the tally, you did get it right!

TERRIAM:
WooHoo to dropping another pound! Did you make any changes in your daily routines?

TERRIAM:
Congratulations on taking off another pound. You've got a good rate of weight loss going; though you've slowed down on your weekly weight loss, you're still losing! Glad you're tracking, moving, and tapping into the resources available. As for the Strength Training, it is recommended that you give it a day's rest in between. Try doing what many members have called the zig-zag: For the nutrition, still staying within the recommended ranges, go up on you calories one day, the next go low, and then the next go some where inbetween. If you've been eating basically the same foods, change some of them out; be creative. Do the same on your cardio exercises; for instance, if you walking, pick up the pace, slow it down, etc. Also, change your routine, add some new exercises, etc.

ANTEEKER:
Sorry you didn't see a change on that scale this week. If you've been staying on track and still don't see a change, you may be in a plateau. Remember to concentrate on staying within the recommended ranges on the nutrition (calories, fats, carbs, protein), exercising (cardio is where you'll lose the pounds, but strength training is also very important), drinking water (eight cups of water daily; though you can have other liquids, water is best), and sleep (eight hours nightly). Concentrating on all four of these categories at the same time is key; all of them affect your weight loss.

BUTEAFULL:
Sorry you weren't able to change the team tally either; but, you've certainly been doing a good job in past weeks. Hope you'll see a drop this next week.

BAMOM19:
Congratulations on another pound drop and losing 15.8 pounds since 01/01/11. And, for those of you who don't know it, BAMOM19 has lost 131.8 pounds since 01/02/06! You need a big dose of encouragement, go to her page! Thank you, BAMOM19!!!!! Also, thank you for adding the tally; the only recommendation I have is not copying the last tally info (At first, I wasn't sure where it came from and then I realized you copied the tally info from my post, which was the last posted tally.), just use the tally total and go from there (as you also showed).

BACKYARDER1:
Hey, if I went away to my mom's for a family feast on the weekend, I guarantee I wouldn't have maintained; I've improved on my eating habits, but not that much! So, a big CONGRATULATIONS on doing so well!!!

TCAT47:
Thanks for joining us on this thread and for asking some questions.

As to specific weigh-in days and/or how often, there aren't any. The only thing to remember is to keep your weigh-in day (and time) the same. Some members use Monday mornings to keep them on track over the weekends; others use Fridays and are a little more relaxed in their eating over the weekends. Some members find that weighing in once a week is too much and only do it every other week or once a month. In the beginning, because your weight can fluctuate up to five pounds in either direction on a daily basis, it is recommended that you don't weigh-in every day (Once you're at your goal weight and are maintaining, it's recommended you do this.); this is so you don't get discouraged if you see a gain. However, if you keep the fluctuation in mind and that works out best for you, do it. (Just remember, if you start seeing gains appearing, watch out; don't let the fluctuation trick you into believing it's okay to see that on a daily basis.)

The official weigh-in is done from the Start Page. Once you've input your weight and saved it, your weight ticker will change to match what you reported. As for this thread, all changes to the Group Weight Tally are posted manually. I think I just posted the basics for the thread, but I'll go back and post it again.

I recommend to all new members that you get to know some of your team members; it's through them you'll get your support, encouragement, etc. One of the ways to do this is pick a thread, start at the bottom and read to the top, periodically stopping by a member's page for a visit (Don't forget to leave them a note that you stopped by.). This is very time consuming (and addicting), so don't try to do it all at one time.

SARACYCLE:
WooHoo, girl!!!! Congratulations on another three pounds gone!!!!
