Hello all....I got my workout in today and I'm having lunch now...going walking a little later...I did my Turbo Jam day 1 it was good and I like it just my pace and I did 33 of the 35 mins of it....so that was good....How is everyone else doing

Good evening all.....who watched the presidential inaugural today....I missed it but I did get my workout in today and ate really well.....Today was super cold here in Chicago it's about 5 degrees right now....How's the weather in your neck of the woods....

Well I hope you've planned your week ahead...tomorrow I'm starting up another beach body program called Turbo Jam still building my confidence to try P90X I'm going to get there....has any of you ever tried it.....anywho have a beautiful nights sleep and a wonderful day tomorrow.....

Starting over again. I start on the 18th after I do my shopping. I can't afford to just throw stuff out and buy new. 17th is when I can afford to go shopping, I am making a list of good healthy meals that I can fix. I am trying low carb, and low fat. Not extremely low carb 50 net carbs a day. But I want the fat to not be too high either. This is a diet my doctor has worked out for me.

By looking up recipies and getting back with Spark People, I am getting excited and looking ahead. Right now, my first goal is to fit more comfortably in a certain chair.

During my work breaks, I wrote in my journal and made some new plans for the week ahead.

I have decided to follow the SparkPeople book's advice and POST MY GOALS where I can see them daily.

I am also going to make a weekly review of my journal to see how I am growing and what I think of the things I said the week before because they may have changed. I hope so.

Here's to a new month, a new start, and a great BABY Step for all of us!

The Paper Towel Theory

A guy by the name of Bob White gets credit for this AWESOME theory for those of you who are worried about not seeing any changes in your body after working it for a while.

No matter what approach you're taking to lose the fat it can be applied to all of us and it is something all of us need to keep in mind as we go along this journey.

PAPER TOWEL THEORY (or 'Stick With It')


Let’s assume you go out and buy two rolls of paper towels, each with only 84 paper towels on it (one for each day of the challenge). You put one aside, and keep it for future reference (your “before” picture). The other one represents you (I’ll call your paper towel you “Ed”). The core represents the lean Ed. The towels represent the fat that is covering the lean Ed. For sake of argument, let’s say that Ed wants to lose 21 pounds of fat, so (84/21) each sheet represents a quarter-pound of fat lost. Let’s also assume that Ed loses his fat equally during each day of the challenge.

Each day during the first week, you tear a sheet off of Ed, representing the fat he has lost for the day. Next, you put Ed next to the full roll (“Big Al”) for comparison. No noticeable difference!!! Even at the end of the week! This can’t be working for me!

But, being a good Ed, you continue to follow the diet. At the end of weeks two and three, you continue to compare Ed to Big Al, and still notice very little difference. That stinkin’ Bill Phillips MUST be a liar!

But Ed is determined! He works hard! Hitting his 10’s…eating his 6 daily meals. Three more weeks go by, the sheets peeling off day after day, before Ed gets up the courage to stand next to Big Al again. Holy Myoplex! Ed is skinny! OK, not skinny, but less huge!!!

By the end of the 12-week program, Ed is down to his lean dream, or somewhere near it. Ed is happy. We are happy. Big Al – well he’s not so happy.

The lesson to be learned is that fat, like paper towels, comes off in sheets. When you are heavy, you are big around. And when you are big around, that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area – just like that outside towel sheet. The closer you get to the lean you, the more each lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area.

While the outside sheet may only cover 1 layer of the roll, the inside sheet may go around 4 times. That last sheet looks like it gives you 4 times the results of the first sheet, but in reality, the results are the same – your perception is just different! And you’ll never see the inside, if you aren’t patient while the outside is coming off! -

I got anit-biotics. It won't be long now and I will be feeling much better.
I have asthma, so if I get anykind of cold it often goes to my lungs or bronchial tubes. My lungs are good this time around. I actually feel somewhat better today. I think the cold part is gone and I am just fighting the infection now.

I am so sorry you have bronchitis, my mom gets it every year. It was weird, she was allergic to the Poison perfume somebody gave me for my birthday and it developed into bronchitis and it comes back.

You take care of yourself and join in when you are fully recovered. We want you well!

Thanks for the compliment! I like this team. The games are fun, I am slowing down on activities until I get over my bronchitis, so I haven't been looking at the challenges. I see the doctor tomorrow though. Yeah! This is usually the first team I huddle with and check on every day. I am just not great at starting converstation.

No worries, so far everything has been fine, and I am great at adapting.

I like to push myself. It is the only way to truly know where my boundaries really are. And even then, boundaries are often only temperary.

Well, I am coming down with something so I am going to take it easy. But I am staying on my eating plan, in fact I think I will make some homeade chicken soup. That always helps and I have everything I need to make it.

It is good to take it easy when you are sick. Your body needs the energy to recover.

I try to remember that everyone has exercises that are challenging. I might have a few more, but I won't forever. It is always nice to know we are not alone.

I hear where you're coming from! I was SICK Sunday (think spending most of the day in the restroom) and I'm still not FULLY recovered.. I think that's why I've beensuch a slacker on the exercise this week, I just hurt all over and I'm SOOOO tired.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has exercises that are a challenge. I'm not saying I'm glad that ya'll can't do them, I'm just glad I'm not aloe in this!

Do any of ya'll use a messenger/ IM service? I use yahoo and myspace IM. I'm also on Twitter, anyone else interested?

Well it must have worked I feel much better today. Still raining here, but my husband went with me to physical therapy and then we went to the mall and a walked a mile! That is huge for me. I haven't done that for a couple of years. I didn't even have to sit. I might be sore tomorrow, but I am excited today.

I just put myself on the team map. It isn't exactly acurate but it is interesting to see where everyone is.

Also now that this group is 10 people we qualify for a weekly digest e-mail.

I have done much today, I am starting to get sick and so I am resting. My son has been sick and I don't want what he has. Been taking vitamins and Airborne.

So I am just a little bit bored today.

I have found that modifying by laying on your bed, really makes a lot of the exercises more doable.

If I give you one here that you can not do, let me know, I am trying to make sure that I do what I promise and have a challenge for every member everyday!

also, if I make it too easy, do an advanced version of it or add more of it, just make sure it is a challenge. I am still feeling my way around what everyone can and can't do.

there are a bunch I can not do. But the one that surprised me the most is I can not jump, so no jumping jacks. It is so weird! I send the signal, but I do not leave the ground. I can do the plank for 30 secs. but then I hurt for the rest of the day. I can do 2 tricep dips, again then I am in pain for the rest of the day. I can not do a duck walk. I want to be able to move like I want to again, so bad! I keep telling myself patience.

There are a whole slew I can't do. I can however modify. I wouldn't even attempt a push up, but I can do several wall push ups. My biggest thing is to protect my joints. There is plenty I can do.

I like the ideas you have posted on the challenge link. I'm game for at least trying whatever is made "official" for the challenge.

I have a question... Since we are the 300+ team, I was wondering, have any of you found any of the exercises (particularly strength exercises) that you just CAN NOT do? I mean, you literally do not have the body strength at this point yet? I absolutely cannot do tricep dips at this time and I can barely maintain even the modified plank for more than 3 or 4 seconds.

So far:

Walk to a special location
1,000 glasses of water by then
