I do best when I plan everything about my day and then actually do it. When I'm not doing that, I have a general idea of what I PLAN to do for that day. I'd love to be more spontaneous but I know I wouldn't get anything done.

Just call me 'anal!' Between a full time job, a home, DD and GKs with me - absolutely nothing would get done if I didn't have a plan. My DD has said numerous times: Oh, my gosh, mom, I'm becoming more and more like you. I love it!!

Having said that, it doesn't mean that I am not flexible. I'm much more flexible than I was 20 - 25 years ago. I don't think a semi could have budged me from my days to clean the toilet, to dusting, to scouring the kitchen flour (which was hands and knees every other time). Now who knows what you'll find on the floor. But we aren't just talking 'housework' here. Last night I looked down and said "Abby, what's that on the floor?" She replied, "I don't know." Oh, yes she did. It was a piece of hamburger that fell off her bun during dinner. emoticon If Tucker were still alive, there wouldn't be any food on the floor.

I try to have a general idea of meals - between myself and my daughter. That's a must for me or I am totally off plan. I have to have things ready. Over the weekend I boiled eggs, rinsed and chopped celery, tore apart a head of lettuce, etc. in order to be prepared for lunches/snacks this week.

So maybe I'm not so 'anal' after all. I do believe there's hope for me yet!

I found I have the healthiest weeks when I plan ahead. Since my schedule has been erratic and sometimes I get hungry and want to grab something quick and it might be wrong I batch cook.

After coming from store I sometimes make a very large pot of escarole and canelli beans with chicken broth little olive oil garlic to tast then put 2 cups in freezer bag and freeze individual dinners.

Also sometimes make large pot of onions, red peppers, peeled and cubed eggplant, red sauce and organic chop meat cooked (like a stew) then measure two cups and make individual portions.

It is a lot of work but when I do it it saves me from impulse and mindless eating. In my case being so busy and stressed this helps quite a bit. When I do it...lol

Not having to worry about how to get things done and "go to work" too, means the day lies ahead of me when I "wake up/get up" I am very much a SAD person (seasonal affective disorder) which means with it dark until about 8, I'm sleeping later and with DST going away, I'll probably be in bed earlier. If sleep causes weight loss I should lose a lot this winter! I am a creature of habit... So I don't "plan" my meals because I eat the same thing/things every day sorta. About a week ago, I changed to eating GF grilled veggies for "breakfast" (which I eat at noon.) and then I eat either a salad (if I have the ingredients) or a "hot dish" that I make with stuff I have in the freezer for "supper" and then I check out what I have and eat something around 8pm (usually grilled veggies). I just keep my refrig stocked with veggies that I can grill or make in a salad and frozen stuff that I can eat and sorta "plan" my meal when I open the refrig/freezer :) In between, I keep a calendar of appointments to work around and a "to do" list that is always way behind!
EXERCISE.... I need someone to KICK MY BUTT!!

Well...both, I guess. I have things in mind that I plan to do each day and many times I make a list so I don't forget. Today, for example, I have included my water, exercise and stretching (I put that down every day, b/c I mark off the water as I drink it...otherwise, I'll go a whole day and not have ANY). I also included some outside jobs: putting away the lawn chairs, clearing off the deck, etc. But, I also can go with the flow if and when I need/want to. That just means I move the real tasks to the next day. I think part of my listmaking comes from my bedside nursing days when we had many of our tasks in front of us all day long. I plan my menus ahead, but I always make them so I can change them around from one day to the next--interchangeable, I guess, and sometimes I don't fix what I'd planned at all! LOL!!

Man Plans; God Laughs!" Definitely the story here. I do plan, but, then I have grown used to life getting in the way, or things taking a lot longer, or just procrastination!

"The best laid plans of mice and men, gangd oft aglea" ...Always loved the "gangd oft aglea" part. Old English for "go often astray"....but my days plan often does!! Not sure about old English spelling of this guote, and SPELL CHECK is no help. Think it was John Doone...or maybe Blake...IDK...I used to know, but this is a fact lost to my old brain.

Hope your plans all go smoothly this week!

I have a general plan ... but usually move like the wind - depending what develops during the day. So a combination of both, I would say. It was really hard to be like that after getting laid off from a 7:30 am - 4 PM job. For awhile, the lack of structure really bothered me. Now, just go with the flow as far as my day and meals are concerned. I do some part-time coaching, so I do have something to pay attention to daily, but, I enjoy the luxury of spontaneity...

I am list making, goal setting nut. I just wish I was better at getting more things crossed off the list.

Many years ago my roommate told me I couldn't go to the bathroom without making a list first.

The only thing that concerns me ... I knew an elderly woman who wrote (the same things) very, very often in her small spiral notebook and she did not believe she had already written any of those things in her notebook.

I really don't plan my day out very often, unless I have a lot of things I have to do. But today and tomorrow I've got a list of things I have to do, so I plan for days like this so I won't forget something.

When I got laid off, my boss gave me a book that suggested that people should be totally spontaneous with their lives. As a compulsive list maker, I thought I'd give it a try. I vowed to "go with the flow" for the summer and see how I liked my life without planning ahead. I loved it! However, when it comes to meals, if I'm on a particular "program" I will meticulously plan everything in advance. Right now I'm in between "programs", so I'm going with the flow with everything for now.

Well, talk about sharing our embarrassing secrets...I get up anywhere from 8 to noon. I never know what I'm going to do from one day to another. I usually get my exercise in fairly early. But sometimes I get involved with stuff and don't eat breakfast until 2 (today) or 4 (yesterday) though I try to eat it much earlier. I usually make it to my exercise class. I have to go all the way to the first floor. I live on the second. There is an elevator. I do plan ahead for appointments and meetings. Guess I'm pretty loosey-goosey when it comes to time planning.

Tell us how your day happens, is it planned out or does it just amble along with no real purpose in mind? Please be honest.

It's so much easier to stay within our calorie range when we have worked out what we are eating for the days ahead. Also I've read it's good to schedule your exercise and figure out what is the best time and days for you to do that. Planning ahead for any kind of celebration, outing or travel needs to be thought out ahead of time.

I'll be truthful I guess part of me falls into the ambling along category but I do have a purpose in my head. I don't write anything down nor do I do any real good menu planning. I know it's not the example I really care to share but it's the truth. I do eat healthier and now enjoy good food and rarely eat out so don't have that temptation to have to plan ahead for very often. When I'm going to eat out I do plan ahead and check out the Restaurant's menu and figure out how to stay within my calorie range and still enjoy what I've ordered. I do exercise most days for about 30 minutes before noon so again it's all in my ahead and don't put it on my calendar.. I probably would have lost more weight if I did plan my exercise and menu ahead of time by writing it all down and then following through every day. Thinking about it more no one said it has to be in writing so maybe my mental plan list in my head is good as it's been working for me recently. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
