I agree with both of you on the fact that SP Teams are more like Groups. However, the key ingredient with a Team or a Group, is PARTICIPATION. If you are on a sport team and you don't participate, you get nothing out of it and likely you are frustrated because of not being able to do so. The same applies for the Team/Group here. If you don't participate, you get little learning out of it and you don't advance much because you haven't been working at it. Also, by participating, you are showing the other members that you are dedicated to the team and will do your very best to support it it all ways.

Anybody who sits on the sidelines of this team/group and does not participate by not posting, is not fully committed to it. That may sound harsh, but if you come here one day and are venting about something or need support, who will be there for you if you are not there for them?

Again, Bev and myself are asking EVERYBODY on this team to participate by posting regularly. THAT encourages us, knowing that our efforts are not in vain. If teams in sports had over 700 members and out of that only 4 or 5 were interested in participating, there wouldn't be much action and eventually the team would fall apart.

So, for now, this Team/Group, is expected to post replies.

I'm not coming up with a good TEAM acronym at the moment. Maybe later I'll think of something.

TEAM can mean different things in different situations. When I play soccer, for example, the team is a group of people who have different roles (I always play defense, for example) toward a common goal. We encourage each other by cheering and shouting advice and praise from the sidelines, we're ready to jump in when needed (indoor soccer has shift changes, like hockey), we're aggressive about going to the ball when necessary but also aware of what our team members around us are doing--who they are covering, if they are open for a pass, etc. If we just go for the ball and ignore the rest of our team, it turns into clump ball--not a winning strategy.

On sparks though.... I think teams are, as SAESAND said usually more like groups of support for people to seek individual goals rather than a group goal (there are exceptions; I'm in the biggest loser challenge and while it is about individual goals and support, we also have a collective goal in competition with other teams). We each have our own goals--weight loss, healthy living, fitness, whatever--and the rest of us offer advice, encouragement, and support as needed to help each other meet our goals. Participation is important but it can happen in a lot of different ways.

My experience with teams has mostly been through organized sports or work. In both of those situations, each individual uses their talents to reach a common goal for everyone - a completed project or an additional win. I don't think this describes the teams in SP all that well.

I think that SP teams require participation from all members at the level they are comfortable with. However, I see the SP teams as more a group of friends striving to reach individual goals rather than one goal. The team offers support and advice. The individuals of the team are all trying to move in the same direction - towards a healthy lifestyle. The team guides and pushes us all in that positive direction through activities, posts, and help when we are feeling down or falling off the wagon.

People have different ideas of what a Team/Group is. Here is your place to explain what a TEAM is to you. You can make it an acronym using TEAM or another word. You can write out what you feel a Team is, how a team helps, what is required of the members, etc.

T - Together
E - Each member
A - Achieves
M - Measurable goals.

or

T - Taking part
E - Encouraging each other
A - Achieving goals, Active participation
M - Making an effort.

Show your TEAM spirit and participate and actively post! :)
