1. at work I take the shift to visit clients while the others party.
2. I keep to my intended meal, just make sure it is a delight to eat.
3. I don't write my name up to festive meals, so no excuse to chase the party...
4. If my attentence is required I drink a diet coke and eat my own meal- I have to be a little cold to cut through and loss 176lbs.. These days I have my before photo in my bag so people don't go there. This visual makes people stop pushing me in sheer shock..

You said it very well. And your list is a great one for anybody who does need the extra help during the holidays. Thanks for sharing that list. Very wise.

I don't let the holidays stress me anymore, maybe it's true about what they say about getting older. You can say enough far more easily.

I now follow these rules after finding these areas often when off kilter in the past and threw me off.
1) Ensure 7-8 hours of sleep including naps.
I often overeat, fall into depression, or make bad decissions when tired.
2) Make sure I eat all my healthy daily required foods (veggies, fruits, milk, fiber, protein) I enjoy holiday treats in limited forms and don't keep a lot around the house. I alternate rich food days with normal days. Helps keep the good habits.
3) Take breaks from intensely emotional activities. My family could drive me nuts. We always had a traditional family holiday fight. I found keeping the visits short before the critical mass was achieved or bringing a guest kept them well behaved. I also will take a walk outside when at long events or play with one of the pets or kids.
4) Holding events at home in a casual atmosphere with a buffet rather than a formal dinner. I have friends, neighbors and coworkers that can't get home over and they have been always good times.
5) No big money on gifts. Debt is not good for me or others.
6) Remember the purpose is to share, remember, love.

4 Noble Truths

1. Suffering is a part of life
2. Suffering is caused by our attachments and avoidances.
3. Suffering can be ended.
4. Freedom from suffering is possible by following the Eightfold path.

Bigotry disguised as morality is still bigotry just as an outhouse with
marble columns is still an outhouse.

Nothing changes for me over the holidays. I handle the holidays like any other day. If stress rises, I do the same things. And that is the way it should be. Just because holidays come doesn't mean you change your coping techniques, it means you implement them MORE OFTEN. :)

I wanted to bring up the topic of self-care during the holidays. The holidays are filled with calorie traps and too little time to exercise, this is true...but they can also be filled with stress, family squabbles or drama, no down time or relaxation, extra duties on top of an already full schedule etc. I can come up with a plan for diet and erxercise by looking at all the great ideas everyone has shared, my real promblem is doing things to care for myself during this time. I need ideas for self-care. When i am stressed i ten to binge. When i am overloaded and overwhelmed i tend to binge. When there is a change in routine i tend to binge. You are getting the picture! Thanksgiving for me is difficult, not because of the food on Thanksgiving day, but because i am a massage therapist and black friday and sat and sun are the busiest time of year for me! So i work and work and work and do not take proper care of myself. I am trying to change that more than anything this year. I got a hotel room for thanksgiving night and black fri night, with a jacuzzi in it. That's 1 thing. I am also enlisting help to keep me stocked throughout the days with healthy food and water. But I'd like to hear your ideas!

Then give to the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you! Madeline Bridges
