Erin, that's horrible when a doctor talks to you like that. I once went to an ortho surgeon who had that attitude. Needless to say, I only went to her once. The only reason I went to her in the first place was because we had moved, and one of my other surgeons gave me her name. They have to look at the WHOLE package, not just treat the symptoms.
Don't give up, and good luck to you!

That's a terrible terrible doctor.
I hate doctors who treat you with NO RESPECT.
I hope you tell him to treat you with respect and not do that again.
You are paying him for his services not his insults.

He is so full of himself. Please stand up for yourself sweetie.

REACHING4HOME, those of us who are hypothyroid know about doctors not listening, doing everything by the numbers. (Your TSH is within the normal ranges so no I will not change your meds and you are just fine...) Lots of doctors get fired on that team.

Hope things went well with you.

Read the blog that I just posted.

I can emphazied with you Reaching4home. I had a doctor like that several years ago. I finally made up my mind not to work with a male doctor. He too was so full of myself. It seemed to me that his behavior seem to add more to my weight problem. After making the necessary changes and building what I think is a better team I'm slow and steady getting healthier results now. Which I am happy to have occurring now.

Yes, July is going by way too fast. It's taking me almost a full week to get my stamia back after building that stone wall. I had to succrumb to taking some pain pills to just do daily tasks. THe pain was getting the better of me and the walking cane provided some stability while walking. Oh bother...I'll heal this out and off to the next projects. It's just frustrating to have these set-backs. Then again if it wasn't for these set backs I might not have anything to talk about LOL. emoticon emoticon

I GET THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING A DR. TODAY THAT IS POSSIBLY THE BIGGEST JERK KNOWN TO MAN. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. HE IS ALWAYS ON ME ABOUT MY WEIGHT. WHEN I TRY TO EXPLAIN HOW LIMITED I AM ON WHAT I AM PERMITTED TO DO IN THE WAY OF EXERCISE, HE CUTS ME OFF BY PUTTING HIS HAND ABOUT AN INCH FROM MY FACE AND SAYING,"TALK TO THE HAND. YOU CAN QUIT FEEDING YOUR FAT FACE." WERE THERE NOT ONLY 2 CARDIOLOGY GROUPS IN THIS CITY, I WOULD FIRE HIM. THE OTHER ONE IS WORSE THAN THIS ONE AND IT'S THE PATIENTS THAT SUFFER. HE WANTS ME TO FAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS AS WELL - TO DETOX MY BODY. HMMMM ... A LITTLE SCARY SINCE I AM A BRITTLE DIABETIC. AND HE IS LISTED AS ONE OF THE TOP 20 CARDIOLOGISTS IN THE COUNTRY? HE MAY KNOW ABOUT THE HEART, BUT NOT THE WHOLE PACKAGE.

Woke up about midnight with pain in the arch and ankle of my left foot. Took a long time to go back to sleep. My son took the day off from work and we went to the doctor. I either sprained my left foot or pulled a ligament...

The pain medicine I have been on since I left Kentucky is addictive and looses its potency over time so more is needed. Doctor is weaning me off the stuff. If it isn't one thing then it's another...

I do have a pain medicine and now working on getting off the other without being in too much pain.

Thanks for the suggestions...I never been to the silkies website. I been getting most of my under garments from WomanWithin or Roamans. Something I will be needing to do also soon. I have been going through all my clothing storage areas. I found a few more things that do not fit so in the donation box they go.

I'm moving very slow today from all the fun I did earlier in the week. I have to use my walking cane today. Still moving but very slowly. I'm hoping some movement will keep me from rusting over more.

We're going up to the camper for the weekend. Maybe a change of scenery will help.

Exercises are the ones to strengthen my arms and legs so I will be able to walk when it is time.

Hope you all are doing fine.

Hi Everyone. So sorry you have a broken ankle. Hopefully the time will pass quickly for you. I broke mine over 25 years ago and it was just great all these years until now and I have calcium slivers on the ankle and in the tissue, have put off surgery and getting injections which help the pain. I am looking to schedule the surgery in Feb or March 2013 after my granddaughter's wedding. He said I will wear a boot for one month but it will be swollen for 3 months. There are more ankle issues going on then what we realize.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday. Enjoy! emoticon emoticon emoticon June

Jane sounds like you're getting around despite the mobility issue. I know what a pain that can be. When I shatter everything in my ankle, the doc had to put a metal plate in there that goes up my leg. I had to be in the wheelchair for some time. The upside of the wheelchair was when we were out shopping I had more men in my lap. They were expecting to find a woman in a wheelchair and they were not paying close attention to what they were doing. Too bad most were like fish I had to throw them back. Hopefully it's just a temprary set back until you get better.
Hi back at you Mamafarina....so far it was a pretty good day. I better hit the hay another action pack adventure day awaits.....until then Sarah

I am very glad for this team! With a broken ankle, cast and no weight on the right foot for 6 - 8 weeks from June 12th when the break occurred I have a challenge. Also saw the therapist yesterday and he suggested doing the same exercises for both legs because my left knee is really taking a bruising. Also learning to use a wheel chair to get around because my sons are helping but I am alone quite a bit.

Read your thoughts before posting and you all seem to be in good spirits. I will not try for the weight loss challenge at this time because of the cast. I think I have lost some though.

The main this is DO NOT GIVE UP!!!

sorry to hear about the loss of the kitten, was telling hubby about it cuz he read yesterday how an 18 year old charged for leaving his baby in the car in this heat and it died, it is a pretty said thing went a little cat takes care of and morns the loss of it`s baby when mankind is so neglegent with their own,,enough of that,,, I was really disappointed this week with my 2.5 pound gain, but was expecting it as with this heat and not watching real good about what I eat and not hardly being able to exercise. Sad thing is I am not an organized person at all so doing these things like keeping track of what you eat and what exercise you do is real hard for me, so I set that as one of my goals, and joining some of the challenges in here maybe will help get some of this weight off, cuz if I don`t I won`t last much longer. It is hard to think about not being able to go places or do things cuz of your size,,but I am determined to beat this,,with all your help.

Hi: I'm not quite sure what to do with this thread? From what I can discern here everyone shares what's going on with them?
If I made a mistake let me know. I was into the doctor before the 4th and the scale said I lost eleven pounds since last weigh-in in March. I'm glad about that. I don't always trust my clothes version.....because I have had the expereince of thinking I lost weight because the clothes were looser and then the scale said otherwise. This time the clothes and the scale were in agreement!
I'm glad the heat wave broke around here. It was miseribly hot. I drank lots of fluids but I wasn't too much for eating. So it mainly was fresh fruits and veggies, things you don't need a stove for. One of the new kittens couldn't take the heat and passed. So last night while it was no wind we creamated it in the burn barrel and kept close virgil with the garden hose if a spark escaped. I just finished watching, Anne, and was really concerned that just having juice for 60 days seems like a long time without proteins....I know there are proteins in things other than animal, but enough for that length of time?? When you read about dieting, from what I've read anything like this is really rather drastic. Of course, what's right today is wrong tomorrow and vice versa, so I guess it's a matter of what works for the person doing it. I don't think I have the fortitude to follow that "way of life" for 2 months. But, I did find it interesting.

I know exercise is essential for me overcome bone thinning. I did 15 min leg lifts etc this morning as a start. I am starting to track exercise too. I was told by the doctor to watch my weight too. I am almost at target but started to sit back a bit not as strict with myself as I should be. So now it's looking at all I eat and do. I feel positive and will be seeking support from my good friends on sparks too. emoticon

I went to the website Living XL that is mentioned in here and found an exercise chair that holds 400 pounds and has work out bands on the top part of the chair and the bottom part for working with the arms. Then it has a step to attach to the back of the chair to hang on to the back and step up on the step and back down, it is one about 3 inches high so as long as I am hanging onto the chair I can start out with a few and then work up. I also have a mini stationary bike that I will use with the chair instead of using my big recliner which was quite hard. I love this chair and it makes it easier to work out with, now lets see what kind of results I will get from it.

Irene,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Do you have access to a swimming pool? I have taken water aerobics classes. You can get the non weight bearing exercise that way. I used to do it. People say that water aerobics are not "real" excercise, but I think it takes more effort to do than you think it will.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Will be spending the day with my hubby and my mom at a BBQ put on my The Eagles. Looking forward to BBQ ribs. Also I hope to go to Chico CA for a fireworks display tonight.

My goal for July is to lose 5 lbs and keep doing my chair exercises.

THANKS ANN!

Thanks Ann for the new site The National Center on Physical Activity and Disability that you sent us in an email recently. I really enjoyed checking out a couple of the links below that you mention in your email. Great source for us. Thanks again for digging out all the good information for the team.

The page on what is available in their videos has so much information for so many conditions. I hope other members will check it out. There are things that may help people you know dealing with different conditions than yourself.

I checked out their videos on Seated Strengthening.
