I am super active and have never had any trouble with feeling poorly during fitness while on Phase 1. It is true that you will feel really well, will loose your weight quickly. Definitely keep up your fitness program. What have you got to loose? Plenty!

I'd love to hear how it is going for you since you posted this a few weeks ago. Hope you are off to a great start!

We all need to get our water in every day but it is especially important in phase one.

I agree with Morticia. It's vitally important to keep hydrated and make sure that you get your protein.

Carbs are not restricted in phase one other than starches and fruit. There are planty of low glycemic veggies to choose from. Most people average around 75gms a day but it can vary depending on your choices. Your 4.5 cups of veggies are mostly carbs as well as your 1/2 cup of beans. Plus your 2 low fat dairy have carbs and snacks such as cheese and nuts. I exercised in phase one and was getting a minimum of 15,000 steps a day. If you drink lots of fluids and get your beans in your chances of having low carb symptoms, like headaches, are lessened. They usually only last a day of two.

I am working really hard on this journey to work with what is and not worry about what has not happened yet. But, when I start worrying I give myself a back up plan.

I worked out in phase 1. I believe you can too. But, have a plan if you feel dizzy what are you going to do. Maybe look at the ph 2 allowed foods and chose on as a "back up" if you are committed to your exercise and feel dizzy then you eat...an apple with peanut butter or whole grains and cheese. Just a small amount, figure out what you are going to do.

Good luck to you.

I am doing Phase 1 right now and actually find I feel really well on it. After a few days you find that your cravings are really gone which is wonderful. If you eat enough protein I think you'll feel well. I go to the gym and do an aerobics class at our community pool. You will be eating healthy carbs. You can eat lots of veggies, eggs, dairy, nuts etc. I just read an interesting article by Dr Agatston who created the diet in Prevention Magazine and it talked about how he's found that many people actually don't want to go to P 2 because they feel so well on P1 and the reason is that he's found that many people are actually gluten sensitive (not allergic) and their digestive system does so much better when they eliminate the foods that contain gluten. Before I go to the gym I sometimes have a protein shake with kale, almond milk and protein powder and I do fine. I'll bet you can keep up your normal exercise levels feel great. You usually loose more weight in the first couple of weeks than you will later on, a lot is fluid loss but I'll take any kind of weight loss I can get. emoticon Lots of luck

hi all. by the end of the month, i am planning to join a south beach cooking class. However im worried that i may not keep up with the phase 1 of the south beach diet because there are no carbs allowed. i am afraid i might get dizzy while exercising or i might get headaches. How is ur phase 1? Should i keep my exercise into a minimum??
