Good morning everyone! Crazy we are almost into October already. The month of temptations in the small candy bar size. emoticon I opened up my cabinet and found Halloween candy from last year (suckers). I didn't get any kids last year and I am assuming I won't this year so going to keep my blinders on. The good thing is the sugar pumpkins are hitting the market which means I can start on my pumpkin recipe run! All things pumpkin rocks! emoticon

At my daughter's house, at least they don't eat pop tarts but potato chips are a real temptation. Wonderful son-in-law brought me lunch today. A Beef Thai dish that was great at least it was low on carbs.

For some reason I never cared much for things like Pop Tarts, cereal, and doughnuts. They kind of gag me for some reason.

Morning All, hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Kierae, Brown Sugar poptarts...hope your stop at the farmers market gets you some good deals.

Morticia, frozen cherries as emergency foods, see you added bacon and eggs to them.

SUNNYBEACHGIRL, I loved pop tarts, now my kids/young adults do as well but only certain flavors.

ShirleyX, had to smile at the mental picture of Beowulf sitting in the drivers seat once you have exited the car. Bet that makes folks take a second look.

Me, hanging in there. Trying to make better choices and continue on this journey.

Brown sugar pop tarts??!! LOL!! emoticon

Of course I should talk. My idea of emergency food is several gallons of frozen cherries. emoticon Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I really can live on these plus some bacon and eggs. LOL.

My breathing was good and the temps and weather perfect for me to get out today. I seem to have the acid reflux semi under control so I am going to try and do better on plan this week. I bought some extra lean ground beef today and hope that I can find a way to prepare it with the limited foods available to me now. Where there is a will there may be a way! emoticon

I found a place in the city that delivers organic fruit/veggie baskets each week. Naturally, they don't deliver to the rural areas of the city where I live. However I am contemplating ordering some and picking them up. It's a great price for organic, local produce ....but do I really want to drive into the city? Probably not.
Having said what a homebody I am, I do have to drive into our small town for canned dog food. Beowulf is getting worried. He'll come into town with me since he just loves the car. As soon as the people leave, he hops into the driver's seat and makes like it's his. lol

We use to have an emergency supply of food - thing is that it was alot of crap! My idea of emergency food 10 years ago was brown sugar pop tarts (no lie!). emoticon

First day of Fall and in typical fashion, the Northwest has settled right in. It's been grey, gloomy, foggy and drizzling. We need some hardcore rain (yes I uttered that out loud) since the eastern half the state is on fire. I am taking the ferry over to pick up Aliegh this afternoon for an overnight. We will hit the farmers market before we come back to the house. I haven't bought any zucchini this season for some reason so hoping to pick up some. Ironically I have managed to buy my first (of many) winter squashes already.

Did I miss the description of the Carp fair?? Sounds intriguing.

Had family in for a few days and tried to stay on track. Lunch at an Afgan restaurant was great and I just had the appetizer plate. Probably too many carbs but at least it wasn't a lot of food. Then we had tacos for dinner and I just cannot resist tacos. Left the rice and beans alone and managed to stay away from the chips and salsa. Up a pound which is way better than I usually do at family get togethers.

I only cut a little patch of the overgrown lawn with my push mower and my arms can feel it. This weekend is the Carp Fair. Carp is still a village, but the fair is big. It always rains all weekend for the Carp Fair so I will bring in some firewood.

Afternoon All, hope you are having a nice day.

Kierae, for the high school cafe food, I usually get the veggies, or salad, sometimes they have brown rice, and the protein without the bun or bread. With all the new nutrition guidelines there are more healthier choices then when I went to high school in the 70's.

Me, hanging in there. Still trying to make going back to work part-time and family obligations mesh plus find time to Spark.

Thanks for all the information. I am eating very small portions and need to not eat after 6pm but sometimes just do not have enough food by then to maintain any energy level. I am making more adjustments as I can. Swallowing is also an issue for me so I am keeping it soft and the last few pieces of bread just left the kitchen. emoticon

Going on Atkins usually kicks the acid reflux to the curb. You are on the right track.

Thanks for the suggestions Tish. My acid reflux has been acting up lately, so I'll see if these foods help.
I think when I was with my son I didn't sleep very well. As a mom I am more tuned into his breathing and coughing than his dad is. I think that when I got back home I was just drained and just kinda hung around without even the energy to go into town. I am feeling more like myself now. I'm still not sleeping very well (that may be the acid reflux) but I am getting back some energy and starting to get things done.
I am not losing weight. I am going back to Atkins for a week to get kick started and will see what happens from there. I threw all my bread in the compost. I do like to take a sandwich to work as I am a messy eater, but I have until next Monday to figure out an alternative.

I actually just saw a cookbook for this at Barnes and Noble. I thought about checking it out but didn't get around to it.

What helps my acid reflux are not eating after 8 P.M. Eating small meals. Having the head of my bed elevated. Eating yogurt every day. I keep ginger and diet gingerale and it helps me. Fennel. And eating an apple sometimes helps. Diet Rootbeer helps me as well. Apple Cider Vinegar often works for me too. I have a friend who uses aloe vera juice.

There are some safe foods that are not known to cause acid reflux - Apple, Banana, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Green beans, Peas, ground beef, Steak, London Broil, Chicken breast, Egg whites, Fish. Avoid mint, chocolate, deep-fried foods, tomatoes, coffee, caffeine, smoking, and alcohol. Garlic also causes me problems.

Great ideas from everyone. I am really limited to what I can eat right now so I am trying to muddle through. Almost everything I eat is causing problems. Any suggestions for good foods to eat for severe acid reflux.

My mom used to make her own T.V. dinners too. It's a great time saver and so much healthier than those nasty things they sell.

I live far from town too. Too far to waste over an hour of my limited free time driving to town and back just to eat. It's about 5.5 miles on country roads to a tiny village grocery store and the closest place to eat out is there too - a country cafe. It's 9 miles on country roads to a bigger grocery store that is also small and limited. 10 miles to a few fast food places. It's probably 12 miles on back roads to Kroger. And even further if I have to take good roads due to weather conditions - then it can be 16 plus miles. I won't waste gas to go to town for a loaf of bread so I have to be organized and prepared. I'm sure it's the same for Shirlyx. I go to town once a week and do all my shopping and errands. I have a huge fridge, big upright freezer, plus a spare large fridge, a spare upright freezer, a spare small upright freezer and 3 dorm fridges. The biggest dorm fridge is always in use. I also have 2 huge pantries.

I buy packages of those small aluminum trays at the grocery store. Make a lot of low fat chicken breast in lemon sauce or turkey meatball in marinara sauce and then put them in the freezer. Pull them out at night to defrost. Put them in the oven the next day or pop them out of the tray and reheat in the microwave.

Living out of town must mean the you have to plan ahead a lot more. There must be challenges.

I live in the country on 100 acres, so there's no way I'm driving into town for fast food. I'm just finding it hard to cook just for me. Some of my other teams have suggested making a slow cooker meal that will allow me to have leftovers - especially when I get home from work tired. That makes sense to me. I'm going to put on a beef/tomato/veggie soup with loads of veggies and I'll be able to have it for a few days.

Nothing makes you want to go out and get fast food like an empty refrigerator. It is hard to motivate yourself to go to the store to get the good stuff. It is a part of the question "Why we eat off plan?". Some of it is circumstantial but other times it is just choice. I am at my daughter's house and I have them trained to have vegetables in the house. Yet what I really want to do is go out to the local Italian place and have a big plate of pasta. They are young and fit and happy to go out, but I have been using all of my willpower and helping them grill here at home with a nice vegetable side dish.

Let's all think positive thoughts for each other over this weekend to stay on Plan and to stay happy.

I have great intentions, but find it hard to grocery shop and cook for myself. I've been home more than a week and just picked up fresh produce today. Hubby left the fridge and freezer stocked with protein, but all I brought with me was lettuce....very dirty lettuce.

At least I finally went shopping today. I got a bag of bean sprouts, and some celery, so hopefully a stir-fry tomorrow.

Staying on P2 but it is so hard to resist the choco chip cookies at lunch. I try to bring something so I don't have to go to the cafeteria but sometimes there isn't anything in the house. They have healthy choices which is good but the cookies are at eye level at the checkout station. Unfair.

Hey SBD Team! I haven't posted in awhile. Been off track, then when returning decided to accept the invite to join SparkCoach and that takes a lot of time for me! So posting elsewhere has been limited. But you all were the first team that made a significant difference in being a helpful place to be. Thank you. Just wanted you to know.

UGH! Can I just say, SBD rocks?

Here I am about 10 days off of the plan: sluggish, daily headaches, ravenous (or am I?), unable to feel satiated, poor sleep, dizzy, blurry vision....can we say: insulin resistance....GET BACK ON THE PLAN!!!!

Alright, I can't wait for Monday to take this seriously again...I just feel so old and sick, already! Anyone with me? Restarting P1 tomorrow instead of Monday!

I think that I am not eating enough carbs (vegetables and fruits). I love protein and have been pretty good at managing the starchy carbs ( potatoes, bread and crackers). The calories are ok but I need to work them in. The problem with vegetables is that you actually have to prepare them to eat. Even uncooked, they need attention. Goal the next two days is to increase amount of vegetables.

Everyone have a great day!!!

I am packed (and repacked!)...foodwise I am bringing a 6 pk of skim milk, almonds, turkey jerky, instant miso soup, protein powder, and protein bars. I am bringing way too much clothes but I don't know how much dressing up I need to do, the hotel may be over air conditioned, etc. Bringing my workout clothes so I can hit the treadmill/gym every day and will be hitting the pool. I am hoping I will drop a couple pounds to bring me back within my lower end of my maintenance. Soooo close....

On the high school cafeteria - do you have to eat their food? Can you supplement or bring your own?

Ugh on the high school cafeteria food. I hope yours is better than ours.

Afternoon All, I've been on and off the SB track for the last week or so. Trying to balance returning to work and eating high school cafeteria food for one meal. We are a grains/pasta eating family and it's not always easy to stop making or cut down on eating these foods when others in the family want them. I'm not giving up though. I will being anew each day and make better choices then the day before.

Nola I sympathize with your situation. My husband has similar problems and it is difficult to get all of the medications correct. Maintaining your health is a daily issue but truly important. Keep at it and you will feel better. Have a great day.

I read today that protein will help manage the acid reflux so I am going to find those I can have with this problem. I am going to ask the DR. tomorrow to change me to 2x daily on my Dexilant and take me off the B/P medication and see if it helps the hypotension problems. The pulse rate still remains low but I don't know what else to do. All of my tests have come out normal so far.

Good job, Eddy!

All the motels here have fridges and microwaves now. They are more important than TVs in my opinion.

I am working a conference so I am basically stuck inside the hotel from 8am until anywhere from 9pm to midnight starting on Thurs. There is a gym so I plan on doing the treadmill and swim every day. It's just being stuck with hotel foods. I am actually planning on finding a decent big salad with protein or soup/salad for one meal a day. Bringing my protein powder to make a drink with milk or juice for another meal. Snacks are almonds, protein bars and jerky. So when I go pick up our office supplies and costco stuff, I am hoping to find some more options.

Congrats Eddy - keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

Also catching up :) 15 lbs down in total. Had brother's wedding so the past 7-10 days have not been ideal. Definitely took a mini break from watching intake and SBD (although chose 80-90% SBD foods). That's ok, though. I've found taking a break here and there works for me. I'm starting a SBD challenge on myfitnesspal on Monday, so that'll be good!

Hope everyone is doing well. How's summer treating everyone? Oregon is undecided...90's yesterday, low 70's tomorrow, lol.

Yes, carbs are a problem. I've even found that whole grains don't do me any good. I can't do sugars or any kind of carbs other than veggies. I'm using SBD to lose weight and to help with fertility, so I'm going pretty extreme. I'm sticking with P1 for the long haul, at least in the near future.

My thoughts are with you. A hotel room without a refrig is a food trap. At least the weather is going to be beautiful. Will you be down by water or stuck in town?? There great walks if you are anywhere near the water. Lived in LB for many years and still have friends there.

Nancy
I agree the carbs are a real problem. I was listening to a nutrition talk and the speaker said that when our bodies are hungry we look for the foods which give us the quickest burst of energy. Maybe planning a few more healthy snacks even if you are not hungry might help your will power. I just try to be able to control the amount I eat.

It is amazing, I have really really watched my foods and I am down a pound. My weight was stuck for a few weeks, but following the plan more closely really does work. Exercising regularly, moderate amounts, but consistently seem to help also. I just wish I loved to exercise more.

Kierae - Maybe you can buy a little ice chest for your room, and perhaps fill it daily? They are pretty cheap.

I am still struggling with the carbs. I think it is a mental thing.....

Playing catch up! I went to Vail, Colorado this week to sag wagon for 4 bicyclists (hubby & his boss's crew) while they road The Triple Bypass. This is a crazy three mountain pass ride where you are climbing up to 12000 elevation. It was crazy to see them do it and deal with the thin air and dryness. No easy task dealing with the food around these cyclists either. They were carb loading and food focused. I brought along nuts, protein powder and some protein bars. It definitely helped along with stopping at a store to buy veggies and eggs (we had access to kitchen for breakfast). Not sure how I managed but I kept my weight down!

I am picking up Aliegh for an overnight today. And then I have to repack my bags because I am heading to Long Beach, Cali on Tuesday. I will have my laptop with me this time since I am working (conference) so I won't be so out of touch like this last trip. I am trying to figure out what I can bring in my suitcase food wise since I will be stuck in a hotel for a week (one without a refrig/microwave). Good times! emoticon
