If you aren't insulin resistant then metformin in any dose will likely not be of benefit to you.

Thank you both. I now have an idea of what I should be taking.
I found my old bottle. It was only 25mg 2 x a day. No wonder I wasn't seeing any results.
They did test me for insulin resistance. I was told I didn't have any. Which is good but it also raises other questions.

I can't tolerate Metformin at all - my liver doesn't get along well with it, but I do know that some of the PCOS/Metformin studies have had to use dosages of up to 3000 mg a day in order to get significant effects. On the other hand, I have had patients who were using as little as 500 mg a day and this was sufficient to improve their insulin resistance enough to facilitate weight loss. I think a large factor is your diet and exercise regime. Those eating low carb and exercising regularly will require far less metformin as a rule than those who do not monitor their diet and exercise in any way.

That's Great!

Jaybird:Just to give you an idea, my endo wanted me to be on 2000mg per day but I am only able to tolerate 1500mg right now. This is the longest that I have been able to tolerate this dosage. I had a superhigh insulin level and have been slowly losing weight since I have been on it but the weight loss picked up when I started counting carbs. I have been on Met before and my various drs have always wanted me to get to 2000mg per day. HTH

What dosage are you taking, if I may ask?
My doctor put me on what I know now is a low dosaage for metformin.
However, my aunt's doctor put her on a dosage that was 4 times what I was on (her doctor told her it was standard for PCOS patients)and the last time I talked to her she was seeing some results.

I think my metformin is actually working. I have been on it consistently since Dec. 3 and am having my first period in I don't know how long without provera or any other hormonal thing. The end of Dec/first 2 weeks of January I had near continual spotting and ended up taking the provera (for just one day was enough to do it) to get things cleared out. But Monday everything started on its own!

I have managed to lose 30 lbs since the end of October. It doesn't seem like much as I still have so very far to go, but I'm sure I couldn't have done it without some help.
