SWEETORANGE being a good listener is a skill we all wish we had or hope to improve on. You’re a step ahead.

As far as carbs go... they are the enemy for me. Once I start I find it hard to stop and also I always wind up feeling full and bloated. I get quite a few carbs in vegetables and they don't seem to effect me badly. But any carb that has yeast as an ingredient like most breads and sweets makes me very tired and hungry and I gain weight very fast. I have found buying only flat breads, like tortilla and Pita bread helps, I would like to try these in whole wheat versions bit we don’t have that here. But I also try to eat bread in a very limited amount usually just for breakfast.

Pasta I am trying the whole wheat and Rice I just bought the wild type to try I will let you know how it is.

I am trying ad in as many vegetables as possible and using this list:
Low Carb Vegetables
This list is roughly arranged from lowest to highest carbohydrate counts, but all are non-starchy and generally low in carbohydrates.
• Sprouts (bean, alfalfa, etc.)
• Greens – lettuces, spinach, chard, etc.
• Hearty Greens - collards, mustard greens, kale, etc.
• Radicchio and endive count as greens
• Herbs - parsley, cilantro, basil, rosemary, thyme, etc.
• Bok Choy
• Celery
• Radishes
• Sea Vegetables (Nori, etc)
• Broccoli
• Cauliflower
• Cabbage (or sauerkraut)
• Mushrooms
• Jicama
• Avocado
• Cucumber (or pickles without added sugars)
• Peppers (all kinds)
• Summer Squash (including zuchinni)
• Scallions or green onions
• Asparagus
• Bamboo Shoots
• Leeks
• Brussels Sprouts
• Snow Peas (pods)
• Green Beans and Wax Beans
• Tomatoes
• Eggplant
• Artichoke Hearts
• Fennel
• Onions
• Okra
• Spaghetti Squash
• Celery Root (Celeriac)
• Carrots
• Turnip
• Water Chestnuts
• Pumpkin
Starchy (High Carb) Vegetables
I eat these also but try to keep it to a serving.
• Beets
• Corn
• Parsnips
• Peas
• Plantains
• Potatoes in all forms
• Winter Squashes (particularly acorn and butternut)

Hey sweetorange, it's okay if you're not a big talker. I haven't cut out carbs completely. I've been slowly eating better. I first cut out carbs like potato chips and changed white bread for whole grains, but I haven't cut out all carbs. I still have white rice too, because I have a lot of it stored and have a hard time money-wise, so I haven't been able to move to brown rice yet. It has probably made my progress slower, but I'm okay with that, because if I try to cut all of it out, then I'm discouraged when I'm tempted and give in.

I don't notice any big gains when I do have the whole grains, so I don't know if that's normal or not. Don't feel bad about the gained pounds. I'm sure they'll come of soon. Good luck!

Hey Kristen tell me how's carbs with u? did u cut them or wt? This is my big problem! especially when i exercise alot i ve craving to carbs! lot of days i stay all day long without eating carbs then at 10pm i can't resist! however i hate eating late! it ruins my eating plan so much

I don’t know why even eating whole grains carbs makes me gain weight! is this normal?

When i found out i'm pregnant i decided to eat brown rice bec it's v useful & has iron & folic acid & also whole wheat biscuits... after a week I gained 5 pounds!! The week after I decided to cut them and only eat 60gm of brown bread daily actually I was eating 120 gm & I couldn’t resist eating chocolate however I'm not a chocolate lover... after a week i gained another 5 pounds!! I felt horrible bec I shouldn’t gain all this in first weeks of pregnancy and thank God in week3 my weight is settled...

Then I had miscarriage after week7 of pregnancy and I felt soo bad especially bec of my gained pounds!

Till now I try to get rid of them... next Sunday will weigh in and c

Hey All tell me how u deal with carbs?

I'm excited to start the new year! I can see again and my numbness is gone right now, so I went walking today and yesterday I did a little ballet. I'm still waiting on blood tests, but as long as I can see and move I'm going to keep on going!

I did okay. Not perfect, but I stayed away from candy, that's a first. But I did go over on calories on Christmas day, although I kind of thought I might. I'm still kind of in limbo with all the doctor stuff, but I can see again and so I can now do more exercise without getting dizzy and losing my balance, so that's good. I'm excited to get back on track and get moving!

Good Morning Ladies

Thank you for the welcome Kristen, on the other tread.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 32. They did not know as much as they do now nor have any effective treatment except to lose weight and treat the infertility. I did not seem to hear the lose weight part and hit the Clomid route, it did not work, but since I had two children already people thought I should just count my blessings. I did, but one has to be in the situation to really understand it, they weren’t so they didn’t.

My only after thought is I wish they would have been able to educate me on the importance of weight loss and being in top shape before attempting to get pregnant at that time. I would have so increased my chances to conceive and maybe saved me a lot of tears and frustration.

But, PCOS it does not go away as you get older and the health implications are serious.

I know your doctors probably have mentioned this. Women with polycystic ovary syndrome are at increased risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, increased triglycerides, decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and cardiovascular disease. I am an finding this out the hard way.

Being in this situation this is a real motivator to get healthy and lose weight.

So I am on a mission to learn more and educate myself about this condition. And I hope to learn something from you all and if I can lend an ear I am happy to do that too.

Hey! I'm doing okay, actually. Everyone is starting to feel better around here, so I'm trying to get back on track. I've done a lot better with fruits and vegetables lately. I lost two more pounds! I'll post it on the weigh in post. I didn't have any internet connection yesterday, so i couldn't check anything. How is everyone else doing?

Well, we've met with our lawyer so the adoption process has hit the begining stages. Nothing will be solid until the finalization but at least the right steps are being taken to get us there. Keep praying ladies. Thanks.

On a healthy note DH has jumped on the exercise band wagon which makes it much easier for me. He step on the scale and saw 295 and flipped out. I'm glad something gave him motivation b/c nothing I was saying got through now he's doing it because he wants to not because he has a nagging wife.

I've been really struggling with the appropriate calorie intake. UGGH! I just feel hungry and cravings are striking when I least expect them and are most vunerable to them. I'm trying to do better though. How are all of you doing?

I may not post for a couple of days, my 7 year old son has pneumonia. He's really sick and so I'll be concentrating on taking care of him. He is on oxygen and he is really coughing hard. I'd like to share why I've been absent the last couple of days. DH and I have been in the process of adoption for 8 months or so. We just recently recieved notice about a sibling group we could adopt. We are very busy with all the details and are excited about the possiblities. I know that we are still in the uncertain stage but I'm hopeful and I wanted to share it with my wonderful supportive team.

thanks sweetorange i am going to look into that because i know my dr is going to want to put me on birth control pills and i do not want to take them and again dont worry about the baby cause it will happen when you least expect it keep smiling emoticon

welcome Heather to our group, you gave me lot of hope for having a baby.. about ur late period there is natural supplement called "Vitex" i read it's very effective to make period regular but i didnt try it myself bec my period became regular aftr i started to eat healthy food & lot of veggies & fruits & water

Wow, Heather. That sure is alot to be dealing with. We'll help you anyway we can. I have a book in mind that would be alot of help before you go to the doctor. Let me double check the title and then I'll post it here. Sweetorange has done alot of research and has some great suggestions. I'm sure seh'll have some good ideas for reading material as well. hi my name is heather i am 30 years old and i was diagnosed with pcos about 4 years ago and my doctor put me on all kind of medication because i was trying to get pregnant well i did get pregnant and lost the baby because of all the meds i was on and the stress of trying to get pregnant after i lost the baby my dr told me i would never have another baby (i have a daughter that is ten she was 7 at the time) well i quti taking the meds and stopped trying to get pregnant and 2 years later i lost 30lbs and found out i was pregnant now i have a beautiful baby boy that will be 2 on the 18 of nov. after i had my son my dr never put me on any meds or anything and now i have not had a period in 13 months i am in all kinds of pain and i am not sure how to deal with this stuff i am going to the dr on the 13th but i do not want to take birth control pills i am so confused and scared i have no one to talk to about my problems my family is clueless when it comes to support please help

I've decided I like little downtowns. My husband is in a meeting in a little town in Illinois so I'm hanging out in a local coffee shop sipping my coffee and surfing. I've been in the little shops downtown and I just enjoyed the time on a active downtown street. Even though it's raining and dreary I've enjoyed myself.

I'm here too. Just tired. We've been travelling extensively and I may not be able to access the internet until Monday. I'll know for sure tomorrow. I've been trying to eat right but it has been really hard lately. I like food way too much! Not being able to exercise like I want to doesn't help either.
Okay, enough with the pity party. I was able to move boxes for my in-laws today so I did get exercise in and I also ate within my calorie range. Yeah!

Hi everyone! I'm still here, but over the weekend I didn't have a lot of time to be online either. I was out of town and yesterday I had a lot to do around the house to catch up! I've still been exercising though and drinking lots of water and doing my best to eat what I should. It's been tough the last couple of days. It's always hard to get enough fruits and veggies the last few days before payday! Thursday is payday and I can't wait to go get some more fresh stuff! I have some canned veggies, but I really want some raw baby carrots and cucumbers and tomatoes! Yum!

I'm sorry I've been MIA lately. I've been at a missions confrence and haven't had a lot of time to be online. I've also not been able to exercise. No accsess to gym. I've been walking/standing as much as possible between meetings and watching my calories closely. so I hope I don't do to badly when I can weigh in. We'll see.

Hey Bekah, yeah I was trying to talk myself out of it the whole way to the gym! lol. My day was really, REALLY bad. Two of my kids exploded and had to be carried to the office...hey is that cardio? lol just kidding. It was actually my daughter who got me there. She loves to go and so she talked about it so much when I picked her up, I felt guilty and went! I decided to just try and do a 30 minute workout but ended up doing an hour elliptical session.

I have an idea:
when u feel so tired and can't go gym u can do some stretching and trainings at home from fitess resource in this site with any music u like so u change ur routine and recharge ur energy..

for me these days i cant exercise and burn calories bec i'm trying to concieve and these days are v critical, i dont like it when i dont burn fat & stop playing my aerobics but i really wish to have a baby! i can only make stretching these days nothing else i can do

Addy, did you make it to the gym today? I bit the bullet and worked out on the treadmill at my in-laws last night and tonight for an hour each time. I also finally got my own resistance bands and did strength training. It feels great to be on the exercise track again despite the fact I despise the treadmill! emoticon

Your not alone Bekah2. It seems like everytime I head to the gym something comes up and I don't get there. Tonight my daughter had tutorials and by the time she was done and fed it was 8:00. I just didn't have the energy. That has been the problem for the last 3 days! BUT I make the promise to go tomorrow. If I don't y'all slap me ok? emoticon

I haven't do so great on the excercise lately if you can tell from the challenge thread. I've been really tired lately and just haven't been able to get my self to the gym. I'm going for a walk today though just to do something. I hate feeling so tired for seemingly no reason.

I'm so happy for u Addy keep going, yes exercise really helps soo much in weight loss and also controlling portions v important.
sometimes we dont notice how much we eat and think we eat little!

about exercise one week i played treadmill 6 times and lost 4 pounds with same diet i do! Unfortunately it's not available for me to play on it all the time:(

Hey IM4ST8, now that I am out of the fast break, I really am watching my portions. I still eat "normally" I just make sure I only eat a third to a half of it instead.

What has really helped though is adding the Elliptical trainer to my workout. I do it 6 days a week for 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Then I will do the treadmill, bike, or strength training.

Sorry that was long, but those are the changes, I have made in the last 2 weeks and the weight is dropping off again.

thanks for the article sweetorange! i already have most of that stuff down, but its nice to see that i am on the right track. my one weakness is that i don't always get my strength training 3x every week. then again, if my yoga counts (ashtanga) then i'm good - and it sure feels like it counts!

My weakness is bread. especially warm right from the oven when butter melts instantly. I guess it's a good thing I love the whole grain, brown breads.

i suppose my weak spot is pasta. i am a creature of convenience, and pasta is so fast/easy to cook. i also used to drink pop. but i've reduced my pasta intake dramatically, and i don't drink pop anymore. small moves, i suppose, but they are moves in the right direction!

hi Kristen dont worry too much , just watch ur carbs especially white carbs try to avoid it, and also sugar
carbs is our problem , once we leave it we lose weight, we need strong willing to do this

actually in the begining of my diet i avoided all carbs except veggies & fruits but now i eat brown bread & my weakness is icecream!

Thanks for the welcome! For the past month I have been doing really well with exrcise (at least better than the couch sitting I've been doing). I do strenth training on M, W, F, and on T, and Th I do Tae Bo with friends and on Saturday we've been doing family stuff like hiking and playing baseball or badmitton. We'll have to make new plans for Saturday now that it's cold. Sunday I rest.
As far as diet, I'm having a big problem with that. I have finally given up the diet soda and switched to water, and I try to keep all the calorie, fat, protein, carb numbers that I have on my food tracker. The problem comes in with the fact that I don't have a lot of money to buy food. I love fruits and vegetables, especially fresh ones and I like all the healthier food, I just have a hard time getting enough so I have some everyday. I'm going to take on more hours at work probably because I would love to follow the food plan that Spark People gives me.
I've also been reading the info you've posted here about PCOS and am worried that I will fail because of the more strict guidelines I will have to follow.
It seems the more I learn about PCOS, the harder it seems to control. I feel I'm eating better in general (no cheetos in a month), but will probably need to do more to meet my goals.
Anyway, that's my info.

I'm new here. It looks like a great group. I've had PCOS for a long time. It's definitely been worse the last 8 years or so. Just hoping to find more information that will help me be healthier and reduce the symptoms.

hi IM4ST8, wish it goes well with u now.. so u reduced ur intake from carbs now?

my story is not so long i always had crave for carbs especially bread & salty bakery

after i got married i gained 22 pounds and i didnt get pregnant after a year plus i had irreglar period & two much bleeding..

in last june i had 2 periods at same month with 2 much bleeding and when i went to dr she diaganosed me as pcos

i knew that i have to reach my idea weight to reduce my symptoms and to higher my fertility and i made a big research about anything related to pcos (which i posted it here) did u read it?

i lost till now 35 lbs i want to lose another 16 pounds to reach my goal
