I give you all credit, I just couldn't handle the GI issues of Met. I got to the point where I was eating only salads and STILL I had the bathroom issues. We went on a trip and we stopped every ten minutes so I could go to the bathroom.

Maybe it had to do with my gallbladder being extracted or something. But that stuff was awful for me.

After 8 years what did it for me was Avandia and Amaryll. Amaryll is REALLY good for people like me who are SEVERELY insulin resistant. Took em 8 years to finally give it to me. But my sugars are normal as of this month.

I'm not sure if Amaryll is good with ttc. But it certainly makes the body work with the insulin it already produces to process through the body. I can't say enough good things about Amaryll!

Good luck with TTC. I was in a local group of cysters from Soulcysters.net and out of 10 of us, only one hasn't conceived as of yet. That one? It's me of course emoticon

The only reason we haven't is because in the middle of all the hormones and such through the fertility treatments, I just decided I couldn't take the hormonal issues of rage and silliness one minute. I also have type II diabetes (which I recently got under control) and hypothyroid. SO doug and I just decided to stop treatment and try to adopt. We're in the beginning stages right now. We're preparing our home with new furniture and such. And maybe in October will start the homestudy.

I totally feel for you ttc. ((hugs)) I understand the emptyness you sometimes feel.

I look forward to hearing good news from you and celebrate with you!

Thanks SCHNOOGLES I wish I have a similar accident like urs LOL may god bless her I think it was a wonderful surprise anyway for you.

yes glass of milk may help because Met is not gentle for the stomach but I think me too (lactose-intolerant)so the best way to take it after a meal!

I think feeling lazy is just your body screaming out for some mercy! Taking met. is stressful for many.

The gas pills are harmless. Little newborns take gas drops. They were lifesavers for me when I was expecting.

I highly suggest charting your temps. when TTC. I did after clomid failed me the last baby and was expecting in less than 6 months. It gave me power to see that my body was working. I could see that I ovulated even if it wasn't the textbook 28 day cycle. "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is an awesome book on this topic.

I took met. well into my fourth month with my youngest to lessen the chance of a miscarriage. In the past you couldn't take it while nursing, but in the past year or so, studies have shown that it is okay. I wish that study came out before I packed on all of this post-baby weight! LOL!

I have three babies ages 14, 9 and 3. It will happen. The waiting is tough, but it is that much sweeter!

Sweetorange, if you are TTC, keep taking the Met. We had an "accident" while I was on Met and she is a healthy and happy 2.5 year old now. LOL!

All these tips are great. I would also like to add that for me, I needed to make sure I took the Met with food. It especially helped to take it with a glass of milk. (Weird part - before Met, I thought I was lactose-intolerant.)

Thanks KAREMEG so much for ur support, yes warm bath really helps, I thought to have it twice a day for relaxation but I feel too lazy than usual, is it because of MET?

oh yes it's a great idea taking Gas pills! I will ask my doctor about it because I also TTC

You know? when I first started to take MET I took a small dose & felt so bad & I was afraid when I increase it how I will feel! but now I take 3 pills a day and I feel better! I even started to eat only 3 times however I used to eat every 2 or 3 hrs!
I feel much stable in eating & it helps me to make the diet I always wanted & control my calories intake!

I'm sorry that you feel so awful. I felt so bad that I had to slow down upping my dosage. I took about two weeks to adjust to each new dose. I found that easing up on naughty carbs helped a ton.

A warm bath helped too. I think it relaxed me. Just be good to yourself. This is obviously a hard adjustment for you. I also found that taking some anti-gas pills like Gas-X helped too. I took so many Rolaids with anti-gas (it is a gummy chew med) that it BACKED me up! I was so miserable. So watch taking some of these other meds to reduce the bathroom trips. They might make it even worse!

I hope you are on a better path soon. Hang in there! If nothing seems to help and you continue to feel bad, have the doctor re-evaluate you. You might need a different medicine or dosage. I did very well on just the 500mg. Extended release the first time I was put on it. Sometimes less is more.

I had awful GI issues with Met. ended up that what works for me is Avandia and Amaryl. I HIGHLY recommend Amaryl to help your body use the insulin it's not using correctly!!

However, your mom is right. I had to use Imodium and trips were awful. I am told however in most cases, you have to give yourself at least a month on it.....some people stop within the week or two though. So you may not have the symptoms for long. If they persist longer than a month, I would use avandia. NO ACTOS or you'll gain weight though.

You do know that you should cut out ALL processed carbs or you'll be running like crazy to the bathroom? Met is awful with carbs. So if your a carb addict, that may be your reason your in the bathroom alot.

With me, even the salads were bad. YUCK!

I know many who love this drug and swear that the awful feeling will go away after a couple of weeks of getting used to it though.

Keep us posted!!

Hello Cysters!

I have a question and I'm hoping one of you or maybe even several of you could be of some assistance to me... I finally started Metformin after being prescribed it almost a month ago..this will almost be my second week taking it...well I also have IBS...so I got the ok by my endo and my GI specialist...well,I'm to increase my dosing each week till I'm up to 4 tabs a day... forgive me for the description, but I'm gassy, nauseated and feeling just miserable all through the day and night since taking Metformin...I knew it had these side effects so I anticipated a lil discomfort, but Oh My!!..and this is just the first week on the lowest dose!! I left a messge with my endo, but haven't heard from her..idk what to do! My Mum is a RN, and told me to take milk of magnesia an hour and half before I even try to look at food for dinner, eat dinner then take Metformin (she doesn't want me to stop taking it)..I had none of that just Pepto Bismol and it didn't have the desired effect...any advice or med taking tips yall have? I already take it once a day at night following my dinner....

I'm feeling like a fussy, colicky baby!!! Help! emoticon
