Congrats on the weight loss I have lost 110 and kept that off in my lifetime. I also run and walk outside or on the treadmill but since losing my old job and getting this new one well life has taken a turn for sure. The new job is in a very busy deli I average at least 4 miles just working there on a day and the hours are not always good for the walking and running outside so my equipment is dear to me. This seems like something I could do when I am achy from the job more than taking another pounding on the treadmill. I can feel it today . I wore my HRM and burned 300 calories yesterday on it in an hour so not bad at all!
I agree when it gets hot nice to do in the air conditioning easier on the body also and mine is 56 years young

I have mine also set up in the living room. That is my go to one. If it really super hotd and air is struggling to keep the house cool that is when I will use the downstairs one. I much rather glide than have to deal with the weather elements outside. But I do enjoy a good walk on a really nice day

I mostly glide while watching tv. Actually that is how I found the glider in the first place.

Love the thing. 8 1/2 years ago I lost 83 pounds by walking at lunch and using the glider with watching what I ate. To me it has been a Godsend.

Happy gliding

Yes that is where I got it the newer one. I have a job that is so demanding I figured this would be easier on the joints after a full day there and I believe it will be. I love it will be working out on it today again!
Thanks for letting me join in. Mine is set up in the living room it is just me and my bird so turn on the TV and glide!

Hello everyone
I am new to the gliding thing. I do hope it was okay to join in the group. I just got an XL glider and it is basically the same thing and I have to say I love it. I was on mine for an hour today and got a great workout in. Used my HRM and even got the heart rate up well. It is easier on my body than my usual walking and running. I work in a very very busy deli and that can be brutal I was looking for something that would give me a workout with out adding more stress to my already burned out legs, arms etc. this is it. A great workout easy on legs, arms and still gets the results. If I have to own a gazelle please let me know but I think they are very very similar machines.

I get mine from walmart...that's the only local store in my town that carries them.

But i've not gone to target or other stores to see if they have them.

I have trouble with my feet too. Mostly the ballof my foot. I willbe trying some crocks.
Otherwise I have to break up the segments which I would rather do one long stretch.

Where is the best best price and place to get these locally?

Hi AMYSLOSINGIT,
Some of here on the gazelle team have gone to wearing crocks.
I use a pair that has a strap at the back. I know few others do also. It's interesting how much these shoes make a difference.

Hello! I just recently borrowed my MIL's gazelle. I wanted to try it before I bought one of my own because I wasn't sure I'd like it. The jury is still out. I've used it twice and it makes my feet hurt! I'm going to keep at it to see what I can do about that, or if I'll get used to it.

Hi Everyone! I just joined SP last Sunday. While looking around the site I found this group. I have a Gazelle I bought Dec 09 and moved in Feb 10. Since I've moved it has been sitting in the closet. I'm getting it out tonight!

Brand new owner of a used Gazelle!

I used to be a hard-core exerciser. In March I had a job change and exercise burn out and have since gained 10 lbs. While I still like to exercise, I've learned you don't have to kill your body to get results. I'm want to move - not race.

I chose a Gazelle because it was affordable ($50) and was something I could do while watching TV. An activity I usually do while eating. I'm hoping to still get the enjoyment of my favorite shows without the added calories.

Wish me luck!

Hi VIOLETAUTUMN,

I love my gazelle! I recommend it to all my friends. I've now bought 3 gazelles off of craigslist for under $35 (one for me, two for friends).

Best wishes on your journey to better health!

Watching the movie Karate Kid I see the elder Chinese ladies in the park working out on a Gazelle and I think to myself...if they can do it I can do it. So, I go on to Walmart web page in search of one and I see a lot of grand reviews, saw some negative ones too about people not losing weight, or breaking a sweat ... etc. But the reviews praising the gazelle out numbered the negative views. So...I'm probably going to order one tomorrow. I came on Spark here to see if there is a support team and here you all are!! YAY me!!
I really don't care if I lose any weight using the gazelle, and I really don't care if I break a sweat ... I just want to get my body moving. I own so much fitness equipment, but recently I've been having some serious pain in my left knee and my BIL was ordered by his doctor to get one for him and his wife, him with bad knees, and her with a bad heart. This sounds like a sure thing.

I'm focusing on getting and keeping my blood sugars down and getting off of insulin and medications and getting back my energy and peace of mind ... while doing that I know the weight loss will follow.

I second that and welcome to our Team you will find some really good info and people here.
I also think that if you can find some room somewhere for the gazelle it's your best bet. Even 5-to 10 minutes will get things moving.
As far as room goes I have mine set up in the living room and then fold it up when done. However when I am really on track it stays up and tucked into a corner.

Wish you happy Gazelling it works. 8 yrs ago I lost over 80 pounds using nothing else.

Again welcome

Hi! I'm Tammy...from the name you have probably deduced that I am EmiJo's Mommy! I gave birth to my 2nd child (1st daughter) in January. Since that time I have struggled with my weight. I lost the 15 pounds I gained right away, but since then, I have gained 7 pounds back. I have a job requirement to stay within certain weight & fitness guidelines and I do not currently meet those requirements.

I have a Gazelle, which currently is sitting in my shed. I am preparing to move and just don't have room for it in the house at this time. Although, as I start packing things up, I just may discover that I have more room than I thought. I'm considering selling some of my belongings just to gain more room in my house, as well as gain a little spending money. My husband and I went a little nuts when I was pregnant and bought stuff we no longer use. We were under so much stress cuz it was a difficult pregnancy.

Anyway, I thought I'd join this team and see how fast I am motivated to dig out my Gazelle and get it into my house!

Hi everyone, my name is Lanetta and I need to lose about 75 pounds. I had my left ACL replaced a few years ago, and have not been able to find a way to exercise without being in a lot of pain. I bought a used Gazelle a few days ago and I'm so excited that I've been able to use it for two days straight without having to lay down and ice my knee!!!

I've been a Gazelle user since mid-Oct when I started Sparkpeople. My DH bought it several years ago and when I decided I needed to lose weight I started using it.

We don't use it as a place to hang our coats anymore (it sits in the DR just off the foyer).

I love the fact that you can "walk" without getting cold or wet and you can watch some of the TV programs that are taped while doing something useful.

Thanks Tanya,
I definitely agree that it has something to do with my calorie intake. I think I had calorie "blinders" on and was eating way more calories than I thought I was. Even after my first day of tracking, I found how easily the calories add up. SHOCKER! I need to work on tracking better, portion control and will look into calorie cycling - I have heard of it, but don't know much about it.

Gonna get back on it three days a week to start in addition to my 30-day shred (which I enjoy so much, it will be my daily routine now)

I usually do between 30-45 minutes 5-6 days per week. For me, it was a balance of nutrition, water and exercise that helped me lose the weight. Try calorie cycling (you can read about it on my SparkPage).

I joined SparkPeople yesterday. Glad to see so many other gazelle users out there!! I really enjoy using my gazelle, but I was having trouble losing ANY weight on it. I was going 4.5+ mph for 45-60+ minutes 3 to 6 days a week for three months straight. (drenched in sweat kind of workout) I got discouraged and quit for a while... I had been watching what I eat as well (although I have improved a lot recently.) The gazelle is older and I have some doubts to how accurate the digital "calories burned" tracking is, but still can't understand my troubles.

Any suggestions from more successful gazelle users? I have a 30 pound goal...I am currently working on a 30-day shred (4 days to go!) I challenged myself to not weigh in until done.

emoticon I am so happy to find that there actually others out there that have and use their Gazelle. I have had mine for quite awhile. I have used it off and on.

I like it because it doesn't put pressure on my knees. However, I never know if I am really getting a workout with it.

I must confess that I do get a bit bored on it. I am trying to overcome that with my headphones and I have started reading, but wonder if I am slowing down my workout doing that.

Anyway, Hello and I am very happy to meet all of you! Happy Weekend!

I feel so good now that I am going up right now to do 30 minutes.

Thank you all, you are motivating me already.

Have a Wonderful and Healthy Day,
Georgeann

emoticon I have no idea how to help you gauge what a mile is for you. I do a mile much faster than I did when I began. I just track how long I workout then manually enter my calories. Check out this link to see approximately how many calories you burn:

Hi Everyone!

After forgetting about Sparkpeople forever, I found my way back and am looking forward to getting in better shape.

I am new to Gazelle, as my neighbor was tossing one in the garbage last week. It's in PERFECT condition! I rang the doorbell and asked if I could take it, and they said sure!

I lugged it home (HEAVY!!!) and now I am just waiting for my husband to bring it into the basement so I can use it in my kid's playroom.

My only question about it is, there seems to be no calorie/mileage counter on it anymore, so I am not sure how long I have to use it (timewise) to make a "mile". Any ideas?

Looking forward to being part of this team!

Another thing you should look into is chair exercising. You can search YouTube for chair exercises.

Best wishes on your healthy lifestyle journey! emoticon

emoticon I am so exited about this team. I just ordered the Gazelle Freestyle from Fitness Equipment and More for $126. I really debated if I should be this or the Edge. I read my reviews on both and order this because you get dvd with it an it is a heavier frame.

It is to be delivered on Mon or Tue and can't wait.

I at my DR's for physical and of course my weight was up. I have a bad back, bone on bone, disc problems, but acupuncture keeps me going. Well my knees are now bad, so I took water aerobics and my back starting hurting. I went to just basic movements and my back got horrible. Ready for another nerve block, Went for acupuncture & it is better. Dr said it would be hard to lose weight if I can exercise. Don' like to walk in the cold. He said I would be a candidate for gastric bypass or lap band. Then I thought I have done soooo many diets to no avail long term. Why can't I just eat smaller portions of what I want and watch the deserts? Especially a better idea since I read up on the operations etc.

Then an emoticon check out the Gazelle. So here I am..ready to get moving. emoticon Thanks for your team and sure I will have questions.

REMEMBER: I have had this before. I know what it tastes like, AND ITS KILLING Me ! IS IT REAL HUNGER OR HEAD & HEART HUNGER?

Hello! I am new to the team but not to the Gazelle. I have owned it for over 4 years but have not used it religiously. Recently I removed it from my spare room and is now front and center in my living so no chance to ignore it!

Thank you Brandtsgirl. I am really enjoying the Gazelle, but it seems so effortless. I hope I am doing it right! Time will tell!
