Need some ideas for keeping your strength up in this oppressive heat and humidity when playing golf. Start out playing well and by the back nine, I'm gassed. Drank lots of water. Zero Water with electrolytes, small amounts of fruit and cheese, low sugar protein bar. I wore a big sun hat and stayed in the shade as much as possible. I don't know what else to do. We don't play super early by choice.

Well, DH had to fill in for someone at one of the other POA courses. Went in at 5 a.m. to his course this morning and got a tournament off. Then we tried to play golf in the heat and humidity. He only made it 9 holes and then had to go to the other course. I went with him and have been cleaning carts, putting them in the barn and plugging the chargers in. We emptied all the trash and took the bags to the dumpster, went around and locked the gates on the back nine. Now we just need that last cart to get in. I'm starving! Ready for a shower, too.

Got in 18 holes Friday and 27 Saturday. Coming a flood today. Good time for some housecleaning and laundry. Also, reading more of "Younger Next Year for Women." Amazing book by a doctor specializing in gerontology on how and why vigorous aerobic exercise plus resistance training can greatly improve our golden years staving off a lot of the ailments of aging that our society has considered "normal." Think it's going to help my golf game, too.

Rain, rain go away. At least it's not keeping me from golfing since I have to work. Off at noon for Flex Friday and DH and I have a tee time with friends. Can't wait.

I don't know if I've told everyone, but surgery went well. No cancer, only atypical cells (40% more likely to turn into cancer), so local oncology high risk clinic will follow me with more frequent screenings and possibly estrogen blockers.

As soon as I was released (hesitantly by my surgeon) to play golf, I went out and played 36 holes one day and 18 the next. Fun, fun and boy, was I ever hurting for a few days just from general soreness.

Good job, Mel. You never know what the other guy has. Same thing in bass tournaments. We've released the winning fish before going to weigh-in thinking there was no way we didn't get beat, only to discover we beat ourselves by not weighing that fish (turning in that scorecard).

Played in tournament today. It was really windy and the scores were ridiculous. We had one bogey and were ashamed to turn in our score and what a surprise when we won the tournament with a 6 under par. The wind gusts were to be 13-30 mph and the greens had been aerated. The field was small due to the weather. emoticon

Well, ladies, thank you for your well wishes on my upcoming surgery. However, it got canceled today for now anyway. Upper respiratory infection. My primary care physician doesn't want me to have general anesthesia until this is completely cleared up. So, antibiotics, steroid inhaler and a prescription cough suppressant. Yippee!! DH and I had taken off this week to play golf as much as possible before my surgery. So, looks like we have a few more rounds this week than planned. I'm game. LOL Well, except for tomorrow. BRRRRR

Good for you. Sometimes you just have to say no to golf. No golf for us this weekend. Snow, rain, cold. Ready to get some golf in before my surgery the 31st. Nursing an infected cat bite from catching a born-wild stray and getting it to the vet to checkout and get neutered. Man, those cat bites hurt. Infected almost immediately. Always happens to me. It's more likely in the hand and because I have diabetes. Went to urgent care and got a shot and some powerful antibiotics. Had a red streak running from the bites in my thumb up my forearm. Yeah, me. Crazy how much it still hurts. Trying to keep it elevated and ice on it because it's so swollen and hot.

Happy Saturday all.

I skipped the golf and walked 50 minutes and did 30 on my recumbent bike. Think I will watch PGA tournament this afternoon. Wish I had thought of it yesterday to see Phil Mickelson play so well.

It's so nice to have power and be online. The icy trees were beautiful but those across the roads and power lines were a big pain for linemen and the power outages were not much fun. Most are back to normal after 3 days. emoticon

So sorry your hip is painful. Yep, your description of "Dueling Banjos" made my body ache to think of it! Glad you are stretching and have a plan in place for helping your body adjust for the surgery. I'm sure you will have therapy afterward and golf isn't the most important thing when we have to look after our bodies. Continueing to pray all goes well on January 31. emoticon

I like the topic. Thanks for starting. Good luck on your winter challenge. Don't have any doubt you'll get it done.

Battling with pain and stiffness again from my scoliosis. Left hip flexor is so tight you could play Dueling Banjos on it. Going back to twice weekly physical therapy maintenance and committing to regular stretching. Stretched before golf today and again when I got home. Proud of myself for doing it.

I want to be as flexible and strong as possible before my excisional biopsy (and removal) January 31 of atypical breast tissue. I'll be restricted from golfing and have weight limitations on lifting for several weeks after surgery. I'm hoping by buckling down now and staying after the stretching it will get me through the down time.

Post a note on how you're doing, ask for help, or, in general just talk to your team about anything. Ex:

I am starting the 5% Winter Challenge today. I am committed to active minutes 30-120 each day of the 8 week challenge. I think I can do it!
