Finished W is for Wasted by SUe Grafton and started The Alienist by Caleb Carr. This is for a book group I go to, and I am struggling with it. Not reading the book, but it is not a genre that particularly appeals to me, but seems to be the favorite of this group. I don't want to give up on the group, but I am not sure that I want to continue reading the books they like. As an idea, their favorite genre is what is called "steampunk"--mysteries with a slightly supernatural edge, set in roughly Victorian era.

I just checked out a couple of books to read over the Christmas break. I wish I could read more, but alas, with two self employment businesses to run and 3 kids, reading is sometimes hard to do! I checked out the Christmas Carol and Susan Wiggs Candlelight Christmas.

Barbara - I'm not quite done with Dr. Sleep yet. Last week was a little busy and I got to go to NYC this past weekend. Of course I started to get a little bit of a sore throat on Friday. I thought it was just caused by post nasal drip caused by some allergy (probably dust from cleaning and digging out Christmas decorations), but now I have a cold. It's not too bad, but I'm sure the lack of sleep over the weekend didn't help. It's getting better, but I have stuff to catch up on after not being home this past weekend. I was wondering how you would like this book since it's more science "fictiony" than scary or creepy.

I got some of the Christmas decorations up inside last week, but not everything. It'll get done soon enough. Not sure when we'll get our tree up. I'll pick up Kevin Thursday and Katie comes home next Tuesday, but Amanda isn't sure when she'll make it yet. We might just put the tree up with the lights on and decorate when they are all home.

Hope everyone is well.

Joyce

Our tree is up, but not decorated yet. Will do that this weekend. Our kids are all 20 somethings so decorations are basic: wreath on door, candles in windows. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! emoticon

Currently reading a detective mystery about a serial killer: Eyes of Prey by J. Sanford. It's a page turner for sure. The writer has an eye for details and is a very good storyteller. I like that! emoticon

Hello Everyone!

Glad everyone had a good Thanksgiving and I am sure most of you are like me and still eating leftovers! Cleaning on my apt tonight since Caseworker is coming tomorrow and getting my Christmas tree up tonight. Reading on a Christain book about finances right now just trying to make a plan to get out of debt. Saving money now for a used car so I don't have to ride the bus everywhere. Hope everyone has a good night! Darla

Over the long weekend, I read the Janet Evanovich #20 book (can't remember the exact title), Stephen King's The Shining and started Dr Sleep. So now I need to get some other stuff done!

All the kids are back at school, Thanksgiving leftovers are nearly gone, need to clean, put fall stuff away and start with the inside Christmas decorating. emoticon

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. This is the first year the I didn't stuff myself to the point of feeling uncomfortable. I snacked on a few crackers with cheese while waiting for dinner. We had a nice dinner of turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, corn and biscuits. For dessert I made some raspberry brownies.

I always put up our Christmas decorations on December 1st and take them down on January 1st. So, today is the day! We got everything up and it all looks so pretty!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

about Christmas decorations...we put our outside lights (along the roof) up last weekend, only because that's when our oldest daughter was home and she likes to do that with her dad. Me...I stay on the ground. Rest of the decorations will go up sometime in the near future...we don't do a lot of outside stuff. we have not turned the lights on yet though.

Hello All,

I am trying to finish up with the book I have been reading for a while now. It is the Bones to Ashes by Kathy Reichs. It isn't the book that is bad, but dealing with some health issues first. I just haven't felt well enough to read. I am hoping that I get to finish it in a little while, I want to find out what happens at the end.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Hope everyone can enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

Barbara - I have Dr Sleep too and I think that will be next, but my daughter recommended re-reading The Shining before it since it's been so long since I read that book. Not sure if it's really necessary, but I've probably seen the movie more recently than reading the book and there is quite a difference between the book and movie, so want to make sure I have the book in mind when I read it.
In between I read Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich. It's a typical Evanovich - Stephanie Plum novel, a bit unbelievable, but comical...and a quick read.

Completed the Hunger Games series...it was OK. The third book was OK, but really quite lame at the end. I guess it's what's expected of most YA books. Anyway, I then started and am almost done with Sycamore Row by John Grisham. Really liked this one. Not sure what's on the menu after this one!

We have the same type of library system. I'm not sure how many libraries are in it but if the library in my town doesn't have it but the town 15 miles away does, they will be it here and give me a call when it's here. I don't use the library much since I got my Kindle.

hello everyone,
Sounds like everyone has something good they are reading. I have not heard of those authors but I don't know a lot of authors names.

I mostly read self help, christain or Nora Roberts books. I like any kind of book really but really got hooked on Nora Roberts and tend to read her books more than anything else. Also reading on some financial books to try to get some ideas of how to budget better.

hope everyone has a good night!

I am fortunate in Los Angeles--we have so many branches, and it costs nothing to request a book, no matter where it comes from.

I have read Elizabeth George, but she has never really done it for me. I don't know why.

Mazack - I don't know how your library system works, but mine has 12 libraries in its system that you can reserve books from and they call you when the book comes into your local library. our system serves 4 counties and I can call or reserve a book online. it costs a quarter per book. see what your library can do for you.

Am currently reading " Just One Evil Act" by elizabeth George. I can tell you that J. K. rowlings has got nuthing on E. G. as far as length is concerned! This book is 719 pages and thick! Just as I started thinking that maybe it was not going to be very good and I should return it early, the entire plot turned upside down and now I look forward to reading it again! It will take some time, though. Maybe i should get off SP and go read!

I haven't gone to the library and looked for books in years but I may have to to she if I can find books by Jill Churchill. I just finished reading the last book I have in one of her series. I will have to go to a good used book store or online to locate the ones I want for my own library. I have a few that I go to when we travel to Fort Smith or go to South Carolina.

Hello Everyone,
I Have not posted for a while but back on track now with the weight loss. I just turned 49 on Nov. 13th and my granddaughter turned 6 Nov. 14th so we have had fun celebrating birthdays! planning a small Thanksgiving with my son and Daughter in law and then flying to Arizona for Christmas with my daughter and granddaughter so excited about that. Had two mammograms and a sonogram on a spot a cm big on my right breast. I had a biopsy on it two years ago so just waiting for the medical records to see if it has grown but does not look like cancer praise God.

Not reading much now but did order some new books so ready to start reading on one of them. Hope everyone has a good day!

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

My allergies have been terrible this week. Someone said that our Santa Ana winds were up but I didn't notice it. I am doing ok today, hopefully, that will hold.
