It is the basic plan I used to wean myself off compulsive overeating. It is a plan posted back in 2001 by a software designer to take advantage of habit theory and traditional societies' eating patterns. Three one-plate meals a day on all days except [sometimes] on Saturday and Sunday (plus two more days a month). It took awhile but it really helped me manage binge eating. There was enough interest in it that a health writer got in touch and they wrote a book about it.

The No S Diet is the book, but there is a fair amount of free education on his website, nosdiet.com. nosdiet.com/

Weight loss is not fast and there is definitely a learning curve but since most dieters are fatter two years after traditional dieting, I thought it was better than doing nothing. I have lost a lot of weight, but frankly, I don't think that's the most important selling point.

I've tried IF for other reasons at various times, but have given it up for now. It never got comfortable, as it does for some people. I've gone back to three meals six days a week. And I've made a lot of changes to what's on my plate over the years so to some people it might look like I'm on a diet. But I've never made the changes with weight loss in mind, just health and appetite management. It's just the way I eat and I'm never going back to a lot of my old habits. I don't want to live with the consequences!

I run a team for it. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i
