The final day of 2015 and a new year stretches out before us.

I want to take full advantage of the new start that a new year provides and plan to draw up a list of goals with sub-goals, details of how I'm going to achieve them, rewards for when I DO achieve them etc.

I want to put up the list next to a chart of my daily weight / exercise minutes / calorie-intake in the kitchen to help motivate me to stay out of the fridge and food cupboards except at meal times.

The only trouble is.... I don't know where to start or what goals to set. I don't want to set myself too many goals because that's like setting myself up for failure.

Any suggestions?

Are you setting yourself any goals for 2016?

We bought organic nacho bean chips made with white beans for the kids. Oh my goodness to die for! The kids hide them from me! LOL!!

Tammae I thought this was a bit helpful on time speeding by. I agree with Mark Sisson we need to change our attitudes about time too at this stage of life. :o)

thanks! We shall see how long that lasts...
now, this is proof that I do not need sweets in the house to binge. Well, it isn't really a full fledged binge since I stopped when I was full, but these little babies are calling my name.

It is a bag of roasted chi-chi (garbanzo) beans.

Let me be clear, I do not even like chi-chi beans. I bought this bag for my daughter because she loves them. But I opened the bag to let out the air so they would take up less room in the box I am mailing them in. Then I thought I better have a taste to make sure they are worth the price of mailing them. and then, well, it turned out to be way more than a taste.

Maybe the scale won't punish me tomorrow, especially since it is likely my intestines will after all those beans. dawwww

that is one sweet spiralizer! I have one, I rarely use, I need to put it in a more convenient spot as I tend to forget about it.

I lost a pound and a half over the Christmas trip. I am now trying to get back into the swing of things fasting wise. I am eating too much now but it isn't junk, just large portions of healthy foods. It is still good many calories though.

Tomorrow is my fasting day, today I am just going to work to stop the nibbling.

This year is quickly coming to an end. Why... why does time fly faster the older we get? I feel like I just learned about the fasting process and it has really been 1 1/2 years for me! Now, if I could just make time slow down...

Eliz, the cookies are the hardest for me to pass up. I had the kids put theirs in zip locks so I couldn't smell that goodness. Too tempting for me.

Never have I used a spiralizer. I do have a stainless steel one like this which will shred food and slice but rarely use the thing.

Thanx Tammy.
How's your week going?
I'm fasting 8:16 again, but need to quit nibbling on my mom's cookies as I put them on a plate for the older kids- one for them- one bite for me- NO!!

Val how do you like your spiralizer? I am so lazy mine collects dust!

Adrienne I can so relate to money/job issues. I have been married 40 years and Tom has only worked 16 of them. But he does help me so that redeems him! LOL!!

Val - On the spiralizer, it is good for more than fake noodles. It makes for a really fast cooking vegetable. I sometimes make the "noodles" and then cut across the pile to make short noodles.

Val, I really do understand the family issues. Hang in there, friend. emoticon

Right now I am roasting some raw nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds) with butter, sweetener, and a bit of cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice. The house smells wonderful! It will give us a treat when the kids are munching on cookies/candy from Christmas.

I took back a Christmas gift to Hobby Lobby yesterday and traded it in for yarn. Gonna do some weaving! A nice winter project...hmmmmm...

Always good to be back home isn't it TAMMAE! Glad the kids were ok. I need to ignore the rude family members which this time around was just about everyone in DH's family. Been praying about it since we got home.

I bought a vegetable spiralizer yesterday with some of my Christmas money. I have had it on my Wishlist for 2 years and decided I'd get it myself! LOL! Looking forward to trying it out! Thinking I will use my leftover shrimp on it. DH will eat regular pasta. I have some ribs for New Years and sauerkraut in the house already so won't need to go out in the rain. Unless I go to the Thrift Store for half price day tomorrow and hunt for jeans! LOL!

Yesterday was a 24 hour fast and today looks like it just may turn out that way too. Just not hungry yet today. Tomorrow is weigh in day.

emoticon I'm back and today is a fast day. Glad Ken is on board with this fasting stuff. It is keeping me out of the sweets we brought back home.

Eliz... keeping you and the little boy in my prayers this morning. I really question our laws and how they are supposed to be FOR the children. Don't worry about the off eating days you had. Sometimes we just have to get it all our of our system before we can get back on track mentally. I would have done the same thing... for sure.

I PROMISE this team I will not eat emotionally this week! Lots of issues are piling up here at the end of the year... (guess it will make 2016 coming even sweeter!!!). Two years ago I would have eaten for weeks because of ONE of the emotional issues below:

-Only had one really bad day eating over Christmas (rare for me).
-BBQ guy sold our Christmas eve rib order to someone else so I had to cook. Grrr.
-Got the kids up and on the road Christmas eve morning by 5:30 a.m. (Christmas miracle).
-My picante crock pot meal was a hit on Christmas day.
-I ignored rude family members... life is too short. I won't let them cause me to eat anymore.
-Kids did some damage to the truck on the way back from seeing "Star Wars" with their cousins. No one was hurt and no other vehicle was involved. Was on a gravel lane and NOT on the interstate. Really... we were very lucky. The worry over kids never ends...had a piece of butter pecan loaf because of that one. Hey, at least it was only one slice!!!
-Went to a family reunion on a nasty rainy day without any bad traffic jams (another miracle).
-Flooding is really bad right now but my son is off work and can help his dad and I with gas calls. We have many tanks to remove before they float their way into the Mississippi Gulf.
-It is rainy... not snow. If the temps were different the accumulation would be measured by the roof tops!

More on the list I will not bore you with... just know I am very happy we are safe and healthy. Overindulging only one day for this girl is a Christmas miracle, Charlie Brown!!!

Just Eliz it could possibly be that, it's not tight yet but as of Jan 1st Mum is unemployed due to stress, she's quit her job, but really they're going to be OK because she's getting like a $35,000 payout, when hubby was made redundant years ago we got nothing, just had to cut all our expenses way back instantly. My sister keeps saying to Dad perhaps they need to downsize the house (they have a 3229 square feet home on 2 acres of land in a posh part of town) and just live on his wage, but his job was stressful enough he considered leaving this year so he doesn't want to be the sole earner any more. I'm devil's advocate when Mum talks to me because I was the "Dad" position so she'll say something he said or did and I'm like "he did that because..." I know she's having a hard time mentally but she's always been a self absorbed narcissist and yet says that's something she dislikes about my dad... pot meet kettle much?!?!?

I too haven't fasted for days, yesterday my fitbit reached 3552 calories burned with 68 active minutes though, and I can't wear it in the pool so it spent that half hour sitting on my bed, and I had a nap! Very active day, no wonder I couldn't wake when my turbofire alarm went! haha Today Poppy and I will go for a bike ride, yesterday was a walk. I intend to do more housework today too, and do all I can to keep Poppy from just sitting and watching tv as it's a waste of a beautiful summer holiday.

Lindsay those are very nice! (kettle/tea pot)

Adrienne that does seem odd your mom would have goodies and not share. Maybe money is tight?

Our Christmas was very quiet. I gave Chris foster son a camoflauge (sp) colored afghan I made him. Something to remember us by. The kids ate Grandma's "bad" (sugar filled LOL!) cookies. But its only once a year. And my youngest birth son (11) won't see her when he's big. She's 82. So memories for him. We had a quiet dinner, roasted squash, ham, and potatoes boiled in meat broth with garlic butter. I kept mine LC, no potatoes 1/2 cup squash. :o)
No fasting the last 4 days, too busy cooking.

How wonderful Val that you found that information out to help you understand and pray for your MIL. :o)

So happy to be back home again where we are surrounded by peace and quiet and the kitties. Things at the in-laws just continue to get more and more stressful and it is now to the point where DH and I have decided to stay away as much as possible. It's sad really but each time we go we are bombarded with negativity and arguing. It would be nice to just have a lovely visit without criticism but we haven't had that in years. We did get insight on why the anger and animosity between my MIL is there towards her deceased Mother and others. Now we know better how to pray for her.

Anyways---back home, time to get back to the LCHF and IF the proper way again. Heard that small still voice in my head today that told me it will be ok. Thank you Lord that you encourage me.

If only that were true Stillflyin, my parents just live on that food lately and Mum just made the same old. She had a cupboard full of goodies but didn't get them out, don't know why, but we were disappointed as we'd expected a lot as always, plus we'd been invited for brunch at Grandma's in the morning (her first since Grampy passed in August so she wanted to see us all) but luckily we ate some breakfast at home, which we don't normally do, because when we got to my Grandma's they'd all eaten already and all that was left was fruit cake and chocolates. If that were the plan it wouldn't have bothered me, but when plans change without being told it sucks, I'd have coped but diabetic can't cope fasting husband, and gets hangry 6 yr old would definitely mind! lol

Oh well we had a day of indulgence yesterday instead, and today I'm ready to behave. I've done an hour of kickboxing so it's 8:15am and my fitbit is at 1125 calories burned, and I intend to go for a bike ride or walk with Poppy later, possibly both. I want to help her get more active and fit too. I'm floating the idea of a fast, I am working through christmas but most of the girls are away for a few weeks, I'd love to have lost a noticeable amount in that month. This year I'm going to fast tues/fri, and possibly sunday... Troy will have dnd again so won't be home to watch and comment. I thought I had his support on this and then yesterday he started getting all "so every week you're going to do this, bit extreme don't you think?" coming from the guy who watched fat, sick, and nearly dead and then lived of veggie juice for a long torturous moaning week... ha!

Adrienne - Christmas is about other things than food and your Mum supported that. (How's that for a positive spin?) emoticon I'm glad your ultrasound came out well. It is such a stressful situation.

Lindsay - Those look very similar to my tea making equipment. I see those fancy tea sets and they just aren't for me. I like my plain, functional stuff.

For future reference on the links, there is a button "ADD A LINK" next to the "ADD AN EMOTICON" button above the message box. You click it and put your link in the little provided box, do what it says, and the link becomes a hot link. What you included in your message is still usable, I just copied and pasted it into a web box.

Well christmas is over for us, it's boxing day now. Mum didn't put on much of a feast so we didn't have an over indulgent christmas, like literally boiled potato, mixed veggies and a bit of ham. Then a plum and white chocolate tart for pudding. Oh well, back to normal quickly I guess.

Also I can't remember if I said but I had my breast ultrasound and although there was a lot of dense tissue, there was nothing abnormal, glad I didn't pay the $155 the ultrasound lady wanted me to pay for an urgent mammogram then!

I use an electric hot water heater similar to those I've seen on British mysteries to heat the water. Then I use a ceramic tea pot that holds about a liter. My current tea pot was made by a local potter. I usually drink my tea from a hand made ceramic mug. I love the whole textural, taste experience.

I hope you are all having a happy Christmas Day. For those that don't celebrate the Day, I still hope you are having a wonderful day.

Goodness forgive me- I'm so behind in the conversation here!

Stillflyin that is so funny!!

Linda why did you retire from foster care? That's wonderful you were able to help so many! And that you have contact still! They must have loved their time with you! We quit fostering children in 1987, my oldest was 11. Then we switched to Adults with disabilities. Now it seems to be swinging back to children, adults are being moved to 12 client Group Homes.

Tammae we only take the kids who "fit" in our family. We can't get paid when Chris' foster mom brings him 1/2 a day because she gets paid. You are so right if it were about the money we would have kept his brother Tony.
But because we can't keep Tony, The "law" says Chris must go with his brother; who is going to a Group Home for aggressive/autistic men. I'm so sad. Chris will only get worse. It's not fair. He needs a family. When he came Tuesday he was so happy to see us. It just breaks our hearts.
So what did I do? I stuffed myself with crap. I haven't done that in 2 yrs. I'm just so frustrated.

It's a small electric kettle I guess you could call it. DH loves them and we have two, one at home and the other at his work. It can heat about 2 Cups of water fairly quickly. It's great to take in the camper too!

Hope the link works, you may have to copy/paste it.

I have a bright red tea kettle an older friend gave me years ago. It is from the 1940's and I still use it when I want to have a cup in Dean's honor. I also have a small Revere Wear silver color kettle. I collected teapots for several years but am downsizing that collection. My favorite is one that was given to my Grandmother in the early 1900's when she got married. It was send to her from her cousin in England. I use my other teapots to actually make tea in! What gets used the most is the DH's "Hot Shot" since mostly we make one or two cups at a time.

I was out earlier picking up last minute things so now all we need to do is wrap. For once I am ahead and not stressed about food. I got a shrimp ring and I am going to also make some broccoli salad. The rest will have to work out but at least there are two things I can have! LOL! I have renewed hope after watching Sarah Hallberg videos last night. She is my other favorite next to Dr. Jason Fung.

If I don't post any until the weekend everyone have a Happy Christmas!

emoticon emoticon

Had to edit as the cat thought it was better to have huge blank area after my writing! LOL

Safe travel, Tammae - and anyone else from this Team who's travelling over the Christmas period.

Tammae - you mention being given a teapot and not having to boil water in the microwave any more. That makes me wonder if the US teapot is the same as a British teapot(!).

We boil water in a kettle (usually electric) and pour the boiling water into a teapot with the tea to brew for a few minutes before pouring out into cups to drink. Is yours the same?

NB. often people just pour the water straight into a mug containing a teabag and thereby make the tea directly in the mug, fishing out the teabag before adding milk (if taken), but teapots are good when making several cups of tea.

Linda, It is wonderful to know parents appreciate the care you gave their children. I don't always see that around here and the foster parents are few because of those experiences. Sad really.

Yea, Val and Adrienne! Losing pounds during the holidays is worth a high five!!! emoticon You are on the right track! We need a "high five" emoticon... emoticon

Travels begin tomorrow morning... the 4 a.m. wake up time isn't bad for me as I am an early riser. Now the kids might be another story... Wish me luck!

We celebrated our Christmas last night because we were all actually home at the same time. Gotta do it when we can...
The kids got me a teapot which is perfect for my teas on fasting days. My daughter said she never wants to see me microwave water again. Ha!!! For a joke the kids wrapped up a "Woman's Day" magazine for Ken. He loves reading that stuff and buys it for "me" once in a while. Funny because I don't read it at all...

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas. Spark ya next week. Take care!

We was foster parents before we adopted our 3 youngest sons (The Wildbunch, lol). It is a hard job and the children are often troubled (that's the ones that touch your heart the most). We fostered around 80 children, short and long term. It was a bittersweet feeling when our kids would go back to their families (most do). The families that got their children back worked very hard, taking classes in parenting, substance abuse and even housekeeping. They went to numerous hearings and meetings concerning their children. We only had one set of parents bad mouth us to anyone that would listen, most parents would thank us for taking care of their kids. Some of the parents would stop by once in awhile to visit and let us know how their family was doing. Some of the kids are now grown and are Facebook friends with us. Some come to holiday dinners or sleep on our couch when in town.

Fingers crossed the best situation happens regarding the foster child. We have a woman who comes into my work who fosters children, I'm considering it, but said to my husband that I wouldn't want to do it unless I could stay home with the child, I'm not fostering someone and putting them in daycare as most current fosterers do. I get that they're entitled to, and that in NZ is a big push to have more children use early childhood centres to enable "learning" to begin sooner (aka get mums back to work sooner, I say being a representative of both mums with young kids and working on the industry this initiative supports).

I weighed in today and have lost 1.1kg/2.42lbs this week. Sadly due to a gain I'm only 500g/1.1lbs down for the month but hey DOWN is the right direction!!!

A chuckle on the foster family thing. I worked with a wonderful woman that had 4 biological children and 3 adopted/previously fostered and as I remember at least 3 or 4 mostly older teenage fosters - not all in the house at the same time. At a company team building event that they brought in an "expert" for, we were playing some of those dumb games. In this one, we were to answer a variety of "mind expanding" questions. One question was "How would your life be different if you had double your current number of children?" My friend almost passed out. The instructor didn't 'get' it, but the rest of us had a good laugh and my friend did too after she caught her breath.

TAMMAE--Funny you mention nurse because she was a nurse! My sister is the other one who always thinks she knows more than I do and she is a nurse. They both are also the first to share posts on FB that are not valid.

I am not looking forward to Christmas with DH family. The drama has already begun. emoticon

Good news is I finally dropped another pound! YAY!

Eliz... don't people realize fostering is not about the money? There is NEVER enough money! I hope that poor child gets to stay with your family. I grew up with 3 other kids in the house and always wanted a big family. There is always plenty of love to go around. Prayers sent!

Adrienne... You HAVE to let us know how the scavenger hunt goes... So fun!!!

Val... Ken had someone ask through texting about our "diet" this week too. She saw us at church and noticed the weight loss. He explained LCHF and Fasting. She is a nurse so I am sure she does not approve... they are taught we must eat every few hours. No response.

Wednesday is Ken's birthday and we plan to open Christmas gifts. Thursday morning we leave for our trip to my mom's and will spend Christmas day there as a family. If I am absent from chatting it is because I am away from the internet. I love keeping up and sparking. Just chatting here has helped me get back on track...I've derailed a few times!

I'll be glad when this hectic part is over! I love the Holidays, but the rush is awful! Only 2 more days! emoticon

Our new foster son's current foster family (we foster him to give her a break) has decided they don't want him. I think the money lured them, but their lifestyle is not what Chris needs. She's single with a 9 yr old daughter. My husband and 11 yr old son are very good for Chis, he needs male role models, and a dad. Please say a little prayer they let us have him. We'd need to update our license and things, we have an adult/respite care license we'd need to add child.

Oh my! Hope that comes in time!

I did forget to say I was talking to SIL Judy later and she was asking what I meant by LCHF and IF. She wanted to know if it was like Atkins and I said no, moderate protein. Then she wanted to know about IF and after telling her I heard the usual "Oh I could NEVER do that!" Really??? You've had Bariatric surgery and have gained back over 50 pounds and are now pre-diabetic! I'd be trying anything at that point! Told her I follow 16:8 but I got "I eat late at night"...I said then don't start eating until later. I didn't say anymore. I could tell she really didn't want to know. I never would have said anything but was asked so much. Just glad my sister is on her great RV trip! emoticon

3 sleeps until Christmas and one of Poppy’s presents isn't here yet!! It's an iPad for school and nz has a shortage, that's not going to go well Christmas morning when I've already put a piece of paper under the tree that begins a treasure hunt. Oh well fingers crossed it gets here in time.
Otherwise I just need to get hubby something and my brother the thing he asked for (something computery).

I'm back after a few busy days! The family Christmas gathering was a lot of fun. It was good to see some of the family again. about half or so couldn't make it but those who were there were fun! Had a laugh at my Sis-in-law Judy. She looked at me and says "I don't know if you've noticed or not but you've lost a considerable amount of weigh" She was implying I was sick. LOL! I said Yes Judy, on purpose! which I had to repeat to her several times before she got it. she is a hypochondriac so I shrugged it off but I did laugh. I kept the eating to a minimum and was ok. My tummy troubles stayed away thankfully. My nephew Brandon (29) took me aside and said he was getting Baptized this coming year. He said he has had some good talks with a pastor friend and he decided to do it for the right reason this time as he was only around 7 the first time. This is a big step for him! So excited!

Sunday we skipped church to sleep in and then helped our friend Holly move. She just had a few large pieces to move so between us, her son (12) and another friend we did it. I ate before we left but by the time we were done 7 hours later I was hungry! So dinner wasn't so great. (Wendy's) It will be another busy week and more traveling on Christmas Eve. DH only works 3 days this week.

If I don't see you all before--Have a Merry and blessed Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Lindsay, and thanks for the well wishes. Please have a safe trip emoticon
That truly is a daily prayer of mine... to let others see Jesus in me. Not an easy accomplishment at times but Lindsay is right...nothing is impossible with God.

When my daughter complains about getting up at 4 a.m. on Christmas Eve I will remind her she was on a train at 5 a.m. to make a trip into NYC last week. My son just grinned when I told him... I said, "What are you grinning about?" and his reply was that he couldn't wait to see his sister's response to that news... Siblings!

Fasting today... the boy is having salad with us tonight too. Guess between the Christmas goodies and extra foods this season he has decided to join our salad night... for a little healthy fair.

Hello Everyone!

I'm just quickly catching up reading this thread before heading to bed - only two hours late!

In the morning I'm travelling down to the South East of England to stay with my parents for Christmas, so I've stayed up late to wrap presents, pack, put away stuff, clean the house etc so everything's sorted.

I think I might just sleep all through Christmas now, though!

Safe travelling to those of you who have journeys to make and may God's grace cover you and His love fill you enough to treat each of your visitors and/or family members in the way that Jesus would. Remember - nothing is impossible for God!

I hope to be able to Spark whilst I'm away, but if not, I'll say it now...

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Thank You Tammae. And yes the other kids do crave our foster son's food. They remember it and if he can't finish it ask for it. It is hard. What can you do!
I'll be thinking of you and praying for your travels!

I do better with recipes that I don't know how they are supposed to taste, if they taste good then they are right.

I agree with Eliz, try to get an eggnog that has as few added ingredients as possible, should basically be eggs, milk, sugar, spices. If you can find a local source I feel certain it would be worth the effort.

haha, my kids think I am crazy when I want to leave at 7am, if we had to leave at 4am, we would probably just stay up and leave at 2am or 3 am we are all night owls except for DH we would have to carry him to the car asleep!

Eliz... you have a heart of gold. Life can change in a spit second and your experiences of losing loved ones has once again made my heart bigger and bigger... like the Grinch who stole Christmas. I'm sorry for your loss but know that my eyes are opened more because of your experiences. I'm refusing to let family sour my joy at Christmas... life is fragile and I will forgive and move on... We don't know what tomorrow will bring. Thanks Eliz.

Ok... how on earth are you able to feed the new foster child who eats only processed stuff? That would be SO hard! Hope he doesn't get the other kids hooked on junk... it is so addictive to me and I hate when any is around me because after a while I will eat it!

We travel on Christmas eve... and have to leave around 4 a.m. Haven't told the kids yet because I am sure they will think we are crazy. Got to get to the bank before it closes and it is 5 hours away! This should be fun. Lol!

I think I will get some eggnog when the kids are both home... just to try. They have never had it and it may be quite an adventure. I can't imagine making eggnog because I don't know how it is supposed to taste. I'm not that good of a cook!

We have lots of deer here too. I'll be praying Val. Have you ever drank Kefir? We just tried it, it was plain and unfortunately low fat. It tasted like yogurt to me. Good for stomach acid.

Thank you Val and Chris. My mom would tell you that I'm strong. But truly it is the hardest thing imaginable to lose your children. Joy my 5 month old and Molly my 27 yr old were adopted. I knew they were in poor health. But as a parent you keep your hope alive. Molly was misdiagnosed at 5 when we adopted her. By age 14 we knew she was terminally ill. My 28 yr old birthdaughter Angel died in a car accident. Her 2 daughters survived. They were 4 and 7 now they are 15 and 18!! She was my first born. I had planned for her to outlive me and care for my estate some day. Isaiah my surprise (unplanned pregnancy at 47) baby boy was 6 months old when she died. It made it that much harder that he'd never know her and I grieved at what should have been a happy time.
I questioned God for years. It helps me understand others pain. But I don't feel strong at all.

Where does the time go? only 6 days till Christmas!!

So sorry for the loss Of your children ELIZ. I lost a child through miscarriage and that was hard as well but I can't imagine losing one after it was born.

Emotionally I am feeling better. Have had a lot of stomach acid even though I'm taking my meds for that. I haven't been eating hardly anything because of it. DH had to get milk at the store on way home so I had him get me some buttermilk. I hated it as a kid but now when my stomach needs soothed it seems to help.

Tomorrow is my side of the family's Christmas Gathering. I am as prepared as I'm gonna be so my nephew Brandon had better not say there isn't enough seasoned crackers! Next year I'm telling him to make his own! I should have THIS year. When they were younger they threatened me to not show up if I didn't bring them. LOL! I did a Family Cookbook a few years ago and they ALL got copies and yes---the recipe is in there! But I guess they can't make them as good as Auntie Valerie. (Also called Aunt V by my niece's DH) haha!

So pray for us tomorrow, we have a 2 hour drive to get to my brother's house and returning after dark. There are many deer who cross the road we use and pray one doesn't find us! Of course our insurance agent always says to call him and he'll come field dress it for us.

OMG, Eliz, I don't know how I would survive the loss of a child, I know you have to for the other children, you must be a very strong person. I am so sorry for your losses.

I love squash, truly very versatile. Never thought to freeze peppers. My freezer is so pitifully small, I actually don't think to freeze much at all.

Today is a fast day. I expect it will be successful now that I have given up the goal of hitting my low weight before Christmas. Something about setting a weight/time goal that sets me to looking for carbs constantly. Happens every time, you think I would learn to stop it and focus more on health, non-scale goals, and actions/healthy habits instead of results. someday.

Val I'm sorry you are missing your mom. I have 3 daughters in Heaven. They passed at 5 mo, 27 and 28, in '89, 04, and 2010. I'lll never get over missing them daily. I'm blessed my mom is here, I don't want her to ever leave!

Tammae buy the thick less processed eggnog. There's a lot of bad stuff out there. Our Health Food store lets us taste and knows what they sell. I do have 1/4 cup a night- it's addictive, but it will be gone soon. So my only "bad" addiction of the Holidays.

We have a new 13 yr old Foster son. He came for Thanksgiving and every weekend since. We have to buy him all processed foods! He has Autism and he will not eat any of my even carby dishes. :o(

I have been cooking 3 kinds of squash in bulk and freezing- squash is so versatile! Also bought 75 green peppers halved and frozen. We pull out 2 pieces each, thaw for a meal.

Candy test... Taste = OK ...... Texture = Flop!
So... I added extra nuts to individual dishes and poured in the "flop". emoticon
I also took some (basically chocolate and cream cheese with peanuts, etc...) and froze it to see what happens. I prefer it that way and sprinkled frozen bits into my Greek Yogurt. Add whipped cream and the flop turns into dessert. Don't think I will keep that recipe! Oh, well... on to the next!

thank you Lindsay, beautiful way to put it.

Don't waste the money on the carton, must do homemade, it is a world of difference, both in terms of health and taste. It is really just a very rich creamy lightly spiced milky drink, that is particularly good with a touch of rum. Not sure why it is considered a holiday drink though. The recipe I used had 16oz of cream, 16 oz of half and half, and 32 oz of whole milk along with the dozen egg yolks and some sugar (and a considerable amount of rum/cognac/bourbon, though I used half as much as called for and still ended up adding 32 oz of unsweetened cashew milk). It would be just as good and very easy to make with all cashew milk and stevia to sweeten. I heated the yolks to be safe but if you can get fresh there would be no need. Be careful though, it goes down a little too easy.

We have company tonight, I am going to make mulled cider (just cooking cider with mulling spices) so we can have buttered rum. It is supposed to be a fast day for me but I will just switch it to tomorrow.

Tammae, in all of my 20 years of experimenting with recipes, there have only been 2 that I have had to throw away because they were inedible. When I do a dinner party I always make more dishes than I think I need, that way if something doesn't turn out I don't have to serve it.

I LOVE the way you put that, Lindsay! Grief is proof of a loving relationship. I will remember that simple yet powerful statement.

I have never had eggnog either. I see cartons in the store but have never tried to make or buy eggnog. I am going to "test" a sugar free candy recipe... I made it up from various recipes so it might be a tasty flop! Poor Ken... always having to deal with my kitchen inventions.

Sorry it's been a difficult and sad day for you, Val.

However, grief is proof of a loving relationship so in a strange way, being sad at the loss of loved ones is a good thing. Even though it doesn't feel like it.

I've never had egg nog.

Fasted today.

emoticon Today has not been a good one. Been missing people a lot. Today was my Mom's birthday and even though she has been gone 21 years in November I am really missing her today. Then that led me missing my Sis-in-law JoAnne who died the year before her in October, to the more recent deaths in the past 2 years..My Dad, my Father-in-law and my brother Steve. I'll keep moving forward in life. I'm not usually down for long. The weather isn't helping my sinuses either---it can't seem to make up it's mind whether to be warm or cold.
Been baking and so far I haven't felt like eating any.

Egg Nog---Now there is an idea! Or homemade ice cream! Sugar free of course. I used to make noodles LOL! emoticon

So why don't people support it? Because nobody makes money off you when you fast. Only when you buy crazy things like meal replacement shakes. weight staying the same here as well. this will be my goal for the rest of the year. This morning I am just 3 pounds above my year low, so tantalizingly close. But I will not let myself stress about it.

Today is a non-fasting day. I am at work, and have things to do after, so I will be able to do the one meal, now if I could just stay out of the eggnog.

Val, that is what I did with the yolks, made a homemade eggnog. In future, I think I will do that but switch to just using the unsweetened Cashew milk and then Stevia for sweetness. It will still have a good deal of calories from the rum/cognac/bourbon but way less than the one I made with cream/half and half/whole milk and sugar.

Thank you, Eliz, for sharing your story of your mother's relationship. I totally forgive mom and actually thinking her behavior is due to dementia. I really do hope fasting is an answer to that illness. I see it slowly creeping in my mom's behavior just like it did Ken's dad...
Those of you mentioning no weight gain... that is a BIG deal this time of year! emoticon

Welcome, Sunnyarizona! The first thing I noticed about fasting is my change in appetite on eating days. It is a miracle for me, too.

Hey, Lindsay... I just wish my "purse wallet handbag" had more money in it! emoticon

Val, I think your goal of trying to get off Metformin is the best goal of all. So many side effects.Do you notice the low carb/fasting helping yet?

Sunnyarizona I no longer like cookies of any kind and I used to be a cookie monster. It took 2 years but my taste buds have changed. I think Fasting helped a lot too. It taught me discipline!

We've been cutting and cooking and freezing squash for the kids. YUM! I hate that frozen store squash!

Tammae I'm sorry to hear about your mom. My mom pushed me away a few years ago. It hurt. I forgave her and now when I call I pretend we get along great. I wish it could be resolved but after this long its what she wants.

Doing my 8:16, just need to cut some calories. No weight gain this holiday its a miracle! Hope it lasts till after new years!! And then I want to get serious and lose!!
