Thanks Chris!! I'm not on FB but I can access the "businesses" on there usually. Going to go find her and print articles for my Drs too! :o)

Day 6 induction over :o) I'm done eating for the day, will fast to breakfast- ugh hate breakfast- but one must check blood sugar before and after.........sigh.
My colon has been slightly more grumpy from eating more often. Holding my breath. Last time I was this upset I actually cried at my Gastros office- I think he thought I was nuts. I told him "No one is listening!" He said "I'm listening and I hear you." I wanted to hug him to death- LOL!

I follow Krista Varady on Facebook. She is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The book "the Every Other Day Diet" is one she wrote using the research she does. Anyway, on her facebook page she posts science that helps with the details of various fasting diets. when I have a discussion with my doctor, I look up that facebook page and print the article that relates to the discussion. Because for some reason, it takes a lot longer for the real science to reach down to us and our doctors than it does for the pseudoscience to get through!

Had a great trip to mom's, got a lot done, paid no attention to what and when I ate, lost 2+ pounds.

Her BS came back high so my sis and I are going low carb to support mom's way of eating. I will just be doing it on my non-fasting days.

Eliz... glad to "hear" that fasting has taught you to wait. Fasting has taught me so many things!!
I will not faint or die of hunger if I fast. I will not lose muscle fasting... actually I'm finding it again.
I have so much more self-control over foods and when I do eat off plan I know a fast or two will save me later. Overall... I just feel so much better.

Lindsay... isn't it interesting how everyone thinks differently about how we need to live a healthy life? If your instructor only knew how many times you work out without food...

Yes sharing what we know is great here! :o)

WHAT!!!!!!!! Slimleaf your instructor actually said that!!! emoticon
And yes my Drs need to read 5:2. But they have no interest. o(

Tammae the last time I did Induction was over 2 years ago. But I've been living Low carb ever since, and Fasting have made it easier this time!! :o)
I had the low carb foods this time, last time doing Induction it was the "clean out the kitchen phase" making me want to cry! LOL!
Fasting, has taught me to wait, and that I can live without certain foods!! Or I can "wait" to eat them another day. Something I thought before was impossible!

The instructor of my strength-training class said that people shouldn't be taking her class, nor indeed doing any sort of exercising, if they haven't eaten that day.

As with your doctors, Eliz and StillFlyin', my instructor should read Dr Mosley's 5:2 book!

Stillflyin.... that is great information. I just read your post to my husband. If his results in December are not good I will try omitting the sat. fat. Please feel free to share more information from your book. I love the education I get from everyone.

Eliz... day 5 today of induction? Well done... Even eating low carb for years it is kinda difficult to stick with induction... especially with cooking for other people. Hang in there, friend.

YES! I forgot about that! Dr. Jason Fung talked about that I think on his blog. Makes sense.
It's convincing doctors of that though that is the hard part! Praying your doc is willing to look at that!

"So fasting is effective, simple (one main rule - don't eat), flexible (lots of different regimens), practical (saves time and money), and virtually guaranteed to work. So why don't people support it? Because nobody makes money off you when you fast. Only when you buy crazy things like meal replacement shakes. Nobody wants to you to find out the Ancient Secret of Weight Loss." Dr. Jason Fung

Howdy Everyone!

Eliz - The Dr in the book that I'm trying to work from said that people can expect higher LDL cholesterol test results while losing weight. My summary of what he said - the fats are released from the fat cells and travel in the blood until filtered out. I also have a battle with cholesterol and have found that if I cut out saturated fat for a week or two before my tests, I have better test results. When I get my weight to where I want to stabilize it, I'll quit playing this game with my doctor, but until then the game continues.

Eliz, even if you aren't doing the 5:2 right now, you are still more than welcome to come on and let us know what you are doing!!
Why not go back to the normal sparking? I do it on days I don't fast. it is still the safest and best as far as I am concerned, 5:2 is just an addition for 2 days a week, but I am still a 'Sparker'!! You can always just try without fasting for a while, If your bloods improve. Great! maybe fasting isn't good in your circumstances, and need you to give it a break. If your bloods don't improve, you can show the medics that it wasn't fasting that was the problem!

I really hope things work out for you!! we are all here for you, fasting or not! XX

Eliz... My doctor said stress can cause all kinds of havoc in the body. You are dealing with a lot. Taking care of the kids, the husband's issues, and your little boy's surgery would send me overboard...
Keep chatting here and let us know how everything you try goes. Search for what works for you. This may take time and patience but you are worth it! I know fasting has helped you so much physically and hate to see you give it up... especially if you have to eat when not hungry. That would cause me to eat even more as it would stimulate my appetite. Hang in there and know we are here for you.

This Dr and I have fought for 2 years about cholesterol. But this time my A1C was 6, my fasting glucose 110, they had both JUMPED up. And I was out of pre-diabetic range 6 months ago.
My cholesterol was always high but now higher, (286) my good chol went down, it used to always be down, but on Atkins it went up!! That was exciting! My potassium was low, my sodium was oddly low, that combo worried her. I take a potassium supplement. I drink a lot of liquids.

I'm also having a breast biopsy that needs to be done under anesthesia, Dr knows I have trouble with anesthesia so she wants my blood work "better" (glucose, potassium, sodium) first.

It just feels like a mess.

There's really nothing my Gastro can do. But I had Drs nurse call my Endo and since the only change in that period was Fasting, my Endo now thinks mini meals are worth a try, just to see. But I don't know how I can eat if I'm not hungry??
Or will the min meals make me hungry?
My regular Dr thinks Fasting is bad period, whether your blood work is good or bad. :o(

I was doing 8:16 and switched to 5:2 again. The weight is starting to come off again slowly.

This morning at Endos request I ate breakfast (salad, parm ch, broccoli, butter). It's 10 hours later and I'm not hungry! I know she wanted me to try to eat something low carb every 4 hours and check my blood, but I'm just not hungry and I want to lose weight!

Fasting just comes so naturally and I don't want to "mess" up my colon which loves those long breaks of no digestion. Fasting was incredibly hard in the beginning, but now its the easiest thing I've done.
If I seriously look at how my always thin 61 yr old husband eats I realized he Fasts too. BUT after his fast he carb loads. Not a lot of food, but all carbs, with fat.

And I agree- stress absolutely could be a factor. My marriage is at its worst point ever. Before Grumpy hit 60 and after he has a "new" attitude about everything. Living with a man who can't tolerate you could make your blood work wonky! LOL!!

Thanks for listening :o)

Elizabeth: I am with Slim on this one. I question my primary care doc all the time and we have built a good repoire. Do you request copies of your results? I would also be talking to the endo about it.

TAMMAE: I made a Chop Suey recipe I found on Pinterest using spaghetti squash---it was wonderful! I threw in a few almonds for crunch too.
Then yesterday I experimented with a pizza crust made with it. I will definitely make that again too!

Oh, Geee... Eliz... sorry this happened. Don't you do a 16:8 fasting window? I don't see how that can make lab results worse... but of course I am not a doctor. Can you get second opinions from the other doctors? Could stress be a factor? My heart goes out to you!

I have the large crock pot going this morning. My son is coming home for the weekend and I can never judge how much he will eat. Cube steak and onion with picante sauce. I picked up some tortilla chips for the boy.
Kenny wants to stick with smoothies for dessert to cut back on calories. I'm ok with that. I love smoothies of all kinds. If they are thick enough I can eat from a bowl. I'm sure the strawberries are upping our carbs so I may need to cut back on portion sizes. I also add whipped cream so not really sure we are getting less calories either!

Yes!! beef gelatin is tasteless! :o)

I had my Labs done today and everything was horrible. I was so upset I told the nurse I'd come back to talk about it later.
Bottom line.............my regular (not endocrinologist for PCOS/diabetes) Dr says no more fasting.
I have got to figure this out.

My daughter made me some spaghetti squash one time and it was surprisingly sweet tasting. I had some with butter and then white sauce during another meal. I'm lazy and used the Ragu Alfredo sauce in a jar...

I could see using the gelatin in a smoothie to thicken it IF it doesn't taste beefy... I had no idea is is tasteless! Haaa!

Today is a fast day for me so will have the old standby... salad. I may have one of my Greek yogurts this afternoon if I get hungry. I bought some last week and haven't had the opportunity to eat it at all. I'm looking forward to that.

I broke down and had the squash soup, could not wait for the low calorie one to finish cooking (cabbage takes a long time to cook!). It was soooo good! I had roasted the squashes and added some Hungarian paprika a friend brought back from Hungary, which gives it a hint of a bite. It is even good right out of the fridge.

Dinner tonight will be the low calorie soup. Probably make some bread for my husband, so he can get his carbs/calories.

I will be heading to mom's first thing in the morning, back on here Wednesday.

I really appreciate the support and community on here, thanks so much to all of you!

p.s.I use Great Lakes Kosher Gelatin in lots of things, smoothies included, it is beef gelatin but no taste that I can discern. Between the gelatin and the frozen fruit I use to make my smoothies they generally are more like soft serve ice cream, YUM!

I just can't drink my food Tammae! LOL!! I'd have to add some grass fed beef gelatin to that smoothie and eat it! LOL!

Chris I make my kids soup every day- yesterday was vegetable beef. Tomorrow chicken rice noodle. I used to make my adult kids PB & J sandwiches every single day. Poor kids. They ate apples and carrots on the side. Soup is like a one pot meal! The Low Carbers "casserole" :o)

On a positive note, I am obviously cutting back on my computer time, on the down side that means I am not keeping up here that well.

I am fasting today.

Soup is what I plan to do tonight. I have a beautiful butternut squash bisque in the fridge, but will resist that until tomorrow. Tonight, instead, I will repeat that low calorie one I posted here earlier. But, I will have to actually make it!

I am still up 10 from my low weight, after 4 up days in a row. That is good for me because in actuality I was up those same 10 pounds before I started into the 4 up days in a row. Also, I am going to Florida to visit mom on Thursday through Tuesday and I usually lose weight while I am there. Should be able to fast on my Thursday and Tuesday driving days pretty easily.

When I get back I really need to figure out how to get my 30 minute walk in every day, very hard to motivate myself to get out of bed to exercise and even harder to do it at the end of the day.

Seems like every time I get out of my routine I jump up 5 lbs too. I feel your pain, Eliz... and jump for joy to celebrate the loss of weight you have accomplished. I plan to lose that weight by the weekend...(knowing much of it is from sodium and carbs...) Back to low carb and fasting 4:3. Mon/Wed/Fri fasting will hopefully get me back on track.

Chris... soup is great for fall, isn't it? When the temps get cooler here I will be all over those soup recipes!

Ken wants us to get back on the smoothie train for desserts. Not a bad idea so we will begin with a strawberry smoothie tonight. Besides... they are very easy with few ingredients. I like easy!

Fasting going well. But I've been so tired. I'm ready for a long winters nap.

Your soups sound great Chris. I make a lot of soup for our lunch everyday.

ODDLASS thank you!

I too fasted today. I ran for 100 minutes after work then went home for my 500 calorie meal which turned out to be 530 calories, but I reckon that's OK.

I was hungry today, but managed OK. It helped me to know that my hunger was a sign that I'm taking control of my eating, rather than it taking control of me. I'm learning (albeit very slowly) to change the way I think about food and eating. After decades of trying, I wouldn't have thought that was possible, but now I think it IS!

Thank you Lindsay! Hope your run went well, as well as all else in your life.

Today is a fasting day, shooting again for a very low calorie day. It is also a day off, so we shall see how that goes. I plan to do yard work as the weather is beautiful today. If I get tempted to eat I will run a few errands to get out of the house and away from the pantry.

could not fall asleep last night and so ended up sleeping in this morning. So I missed the senior strength class I had planned on taking. Will start that on Saturday instead.

So, here is what I am learning about myself...I always seem to eat a bit more than I plan, so yesterday when I planned to eat nothing I had a large bowl of homemade winter vegetable soup, which most surely came in under my 500 calories. If I shoot for 500 I tend to hit closer to 800, and so on. So I will be shooting for 200 or 300 on my fast days to see how that goes.

What I did yesterday to track the soup is that I went on My Fitness Pal (which is where I track my food and weight) and searched "winter vegetable soup", and just used that as an estimate. The veggies I used in mine were all of the very low calorie type, and I did add beans for protein, and miso broth for liquid, but I cannot imagine that it came to more than 100 calories a cup.

It is estimating portions on those soups that gets a bit tricky. For example the recipe for this soup...

1 onion and some garlic
1 large head of cabbage
3 yellow squash
16oz mushrooms
3 tomatoes
3 handfuls of okra, chopped
1 can @ great northern and pinto beans rinsed
32oz Miso broth

We have had it for dinner 2 nights so far and there is enough for at least 2 more nights. I estimate a 'serving' is about 2 cups.

My new goal for my soups is to use at least 7 different locally seasonal vegetables. I promised my daughter I would get 7 different veggies and fruits every day (she is worried about the fast days and this was our compromise).

Chris - I eat a lot of homemade soups and stuff. Instead of always tracking every little bit every time I eat some, I have some groupings of my usual ingredients already "portioned" and if anything else new in the mix is of a high-ish calorie count, add it as a stand alone. Saves a ton of time and effort and gives me a "pretty close" estimate. That kind of thing might work for you.

Photos - I run mine through Microsoft Windows Paint if I need a smaller file or to rotate it. It's already part of most folk's installed software and is easy to use. Open Paint, open your saved file in Paint, fiddle with it if you want (rotate, resize), save as a .jpg, and it is done! I'm also trying to self teach myself Gimp for fancier graphics stuff, but it is very slow going and I'm terrible at it.

Edited to fix Left out the step to open Paint software. Ooops!

Oh my word, what an unpleasant surprise to have when you start up your computer! I am no techie either. I usually text or call my son to see if he can help.

OK, this is serious. I am now 12 pounds above my low weight and it is stopping right now. For some reason once I start eating I cannot stop. It does not matter if it is my fast day or not.

Today is my fast day and I am going to try to just not eat at all. LOTS of fluids, but no food. I had a very successful fast last Thursday in which I did drink a lot and only had a bowl of veggie soup for dinner, but it required a sheer force of will that I cannot usually sustain.

Tracking my calories is such a PITA when I am eating homemade soups and such, I ended up giving up. I think I need to find a way to just track it without having to get so exact, mostly so I can see what I ate and less about how many calories on my non-fasting days. On my fasting days, I am going to try just liquids. It won't be no calorie, but very low and easier to track.

fingers crossed.

Yes.

I know what you mean about the tech stuff. One time my nephew got porn on my computer and I had to get one of my daughters friends to get it off. I was so embarrassed when all these naked bosoms popped up every time I started up my computer.

Was everyone fasting on Monday? I did too!

First fast in a week, Lindsay? Bet that was a welcomed fast!

Eliz... It took me FOREVER to get my new profile pic uploaded yesterday. I could not even get facebook to work for me... I had a sideways face for the longest time. I am not a tech person at all... it frustrates me and those are the days I wish my kids were still home to help their old Mama! Lol

Eliz... the only way I have been able to load pics on spark is to copy one from facebook first. The pics are always upside down or sideways if I don't. If you have facebook (I use an unshared album) to upload a pic... then I copy it to my desktop. If you don't have FB try copying the pic directly to your desktop and then to spark. Wish I could help more but I am really dumb when it comes to this stuff.

Hi, Lindsay... Hope the visit to your parents is going well.

Eliz... at least you age something healthy at 2 a.m. So glad to see your post of Jacob's recovery. God bless you and keep up your energy. I so understand traveling to keep up a place and all the chores that go along with that. When I travel to the farm it becomes mowing time. We did get the garden cleared and ready for winter... so that's good.

Chris... I do understand the panic of weight gain. So easy and quick it is to come on... so much harder to get off. Counting your calories should help you get a grip on that... I hope.

Thank You!

Jacob seems to feel so much better after having the "hole" closed/patched (the Dura) to his brain that he's recovering quickly!! But he still needs extra care, so I'm pretty tired. ;o) Last night at 2 a.m. he was hungry and I gave him yogurt, unfortunately I broke my fast by eating some too!

Tomorrow we head up north to close up for winter. (my married daughter will take Jacob) Didn't get up all summer, except to mow. Still need to close up. Where does the time go!?

skipping the cream did not seem to make a difference, so I will probably keep it. I use 15g (I weigh it) in a 32oz cup of coffee/ice/water with a few drops of stevia. I water it down so much that if I didn't use the cream there is very little taste. I did get myself an espresso machine ($10 at Goodwill), and may be able to skip cream with that since it forms the crema on top. Will have to experiment with that.

I did the coconut oil/butter thing, I liked it, but saw no reason to switch from the cream, plus I drink my coffee iced, and that only works in hot coffee.

Crystal Light, and any other instant drink mix I have tried, definitely needs to be diluted. I usually use twice as much water as the directions call for.

BFF and hubby coming for dinner and cards tonight, so I am switching my fast day to tomorrow.

I am gaining weight. I don't feel like I am doing much different, but I must be. So I will go back to tracking my food starting tomorrow, gotta figure this out. It was fine when I was maintaining, but gaining is a no can do.

Eliz, your family and little boy are in my thoughts.

I started making my iced tea with less tea bags too. It works and saves money. The other thing I dilute is crystal light strawberry. It just tastes better that way.

I notice if I have cream in my coffee (love cream) it makes my stomach growl for more. So... I skip the cream and have learned to enjoy coffee black. I've tried the coconut oil/butter combo in the coffee... not for me.

Eliz... how is your sweet boy doing? Is he healing/feeling better? This has to be a tough time.

Today is a fast day for me... and naturally, I celebrate not having to cook breakfast or lunch. Lol! Bring on the coffee, tea, and lemonade light...

Cannot do my coffee without cream! Actually it was just fine. I got enough caffeine from the Matcha powder, and the other teas. what I didn't do was to drink enough. I was doing very well, until I made dinner for my husband, and of course I had to have some too. I am either going to have to wait to eat with him, or just make his meal right when I finish mine, or make him something that is not shareable (ie. grilled cheese or fried eggs, with a salad).

My weight is up this morning. Refuse to punish myself for yesterday though. I had my coffee with cream this morning, have 2 bottles of tea I will finish before I leave work, and made 2 iced teas for when I get home. Each tea (and actually my iced coffee too) is a liter of fluid, more water than tea as I only use one tea bag per serving.

I have actually added a small glass of red wine most nights. I don't count the calories though.

Tomorrow will be a non-fasting day, we have company coming for dinner, so I will make Friday a fast day instead.

I have found that the only way I can be really successful on my fast days is if I do not 'watch what I eat' on my non-fasting days. What I do though is to pay close attention to following 4 rules...Eating only when physically hungry, Eating whatever I want, Eating as mindfully as I feel comfortable with, and stopping when I am no longer hungry (trying to stop before I am actually full).

The details of that...When deciding what I want to eat, I really think about it, not just walk into the pantry and grab easy food (which would then almost certainly be empty carbs), 95% of the time I end up with what would be considered a healthy meal. The other 5% is usually a single serve cake I make with frosting.

The mindfully part generally means eating at a table with no distractions and putting my utensil down between bites.

Today is a fast day and I am trying something new for me. I skipped my morning coffee since I cannot bring myself to drink it without cream. Instead I made a glass of iced Matcha Green tea. I have my typical 2 large bottle of iced tea at work with me here and have a couple of errands to run after work. Plan on a large bowl of veggie soup for dinner.

Get to bed, Lindsay! emoticon We all need sleep to help our brains work...

Eliz... My prayers of thanks for your son's successful surgery go up today. Food wise I would have probably handled it the same way you did... a carb fest. My heart goes out to you! I'm glad you are getting back on track with the fasting because really that is the only thing that makes me feel better (afterwards). God bless you and your family.

I recently had bad carbs in the house and was able to purge them last evening. For me to be "good" on my eating days I have to have a carb free home. Not an easy thing for most people with families. I do deal with this every time I go visit my mom and spend a few days. She has a sweet tooth like me. I also am not good with 16:8 because of calorie creep. Before I know it I am eating WAY too much.
How does everyone else handle their "feast" days?

Thank you everyone for your kind messages.
His funeral was lovely, I read my eulogy on behalf of the cousins and everyone gave me good feedback. I drank a lot of cider for a monday night, and although not hungover I'm tired so quite pleased I took the extra day off work. Once I've taken my daughter to school I'll do some housework and have a nap I think. My challenge begins today, so time to begin working out too, my feet are a bit tender and swollen from alcohol and shoes that were too tight yesterday, yet another reminder of why I need to drop some kgs.

ADRIENNE I am so sorry your Grampa has passed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
((((HUG))))

Chris thank you I will try this.

Tammae I fell off the wagon. My 10 yr old son had brain surgery last Thurs. My response to nearly losing him was Chinese food fest for FOUR days. OY! I am ill. At the time it seemed justified. It really wasn't.

So today is Monday- my son lived (Praise God) and I have already fasted 13 hours so I will have my 500 cal meal and fast another 12 till tomorrow.

Now how do you guys eat the next day? I know I REALLY need to stop the carbs sneaking in- and stay with the real food. Do you watch your calories? plan your meals- I'm afraid I'll just snack all day with a bite here and there!

And me too on the 8:16, eventually my meals were smaller/fewer, but very high calorie- amazing how quickly you can rack them up! Just like they show those 1,000-2,000 calorie restaurant meals!

Hair is still thin, if it's diet it will take a month or so to fill in.

Joyfully~ Eliz in Minnesota

I can't set weight/time goals for myself. By that I mean, if I say I want to weigh 'x' by 'y' date I tend to go over the deep end. It has then shifted away from being a lifestyle and into being a diet, being a diet means I feel deprived, feeling deprived means I binge. At least I have learned that about myself.

I do best by focusing on my actions and letting the results take care of themselves.

So, actions...starting today, I will be on the treadmill for 30 minutes every single day, no excuses. Starting next Monday (since they are closed today for Labor Day), I will take gentle yoga class when I am in town on Mondays. I really need to start to bed at 9, going through my bed time routine so that I can be asleep close to 10, to wake up well rested enough to get on the treadmill before work.

For now, my fast days will be Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and instead of trying to count calories, I will simply eat one, veggie packed meal and drink lots of fluids.

This is to get myself back on schedule. I did well yesterday, which was my fast day, so I am off and running.

Best wishes and sympathy to you, Adrienne.

Oddlass... I am still going to be in that overweight category at 170 which is my goal. If I get to that weight by Christmas (and stay there) I will probably cry!

My weight should be 164 pounds to be in the "normal" BMI category. That is a 6 lb difference from my goal. Maybe someday... but I'm not going to push it at this time. If I try to focus too far into the future with weight loss I will go crazy. One day at a time...

Well the day of the funeral is here, I got volunteered by my cousins to speak on our behalf because I'm the oldest cousin, I'm not one for public affection and don't see the need to share my memories via microphone to strangers as well as family so wasn't planning on speaking but now I am and that's ok, somehow they think I'll cry less than them?! Haha I might not be into PDA's but a funeral is very different to a cuddle with the hubby. So I've written a eulogy, hubby read it and cried and said it was beautiful, hopefully my cousins agree, I said to hubby last night that if they don't I'll say "well if you want it done different, do it yourself".
Eating wise I'm going to stick to savoury stuff, nothing sweet has been tasting nice to me lately, and I'm not going to watch what I eat BUT I'm going to embrace the fact I'm not feeling hungry. I hope you all have a nice day.

So sorry to hear about your loss! It sounds like yo have been having really rough time of it! I hope you and your family are coping with it all, always a difficult time. I am sure you will be back in line with your new challenge you set yourself. x

I hope you had a happy Friday without the temptation of left over chicken Val?

Nice to have you back Tammea! I know what you mean about the cold and comfort food!! One of my worst ones is porridge ..... not proper oats made with water ...but made with milk, butter and syrup! or creamy, hot rice pudding. the only hope is soup or snack pasta.

Hi everyone, I've been away for a bit, very distracted with my grampy having motor neuron disease and he passed away on Monday just gone, his funeral is the Monday coming. I also had some work stress that compounded it all and left me out of sorts. I've been working on fasting a lot though, I'm trialling up day and down days though and it's helping, I let myself have 4 days of 1000cal and then 3 days of 2500-3000 cal. So far so good and I did lose but then overate yesterday, it's also father's day in NZ so tomorrow we're all going to Grandma's to have a final father's day with Grampy at home. It's so surreal to see him so still and quiet, he was such a vocal guy who was always busy. Anyway, I'm sort of back, I'm going to use sparkpeople to blog my 40 week challenge I've set myself. I need my body to be lighter, I know I'm perfectly healthy, I just eat too much, had bloods done and not a single thing is wrong with me, I just weigh too much, but that'll change... :)

Happy Friday everyone! Going to be very vigilant about my eating this weekend. DH did say leftover chicken would be good for dinner so unless he brings home something else I won't be tempted. emoticon

Jason Fung

Glad to get back home and find a new Sept. chat thread... Thanks, Stillflyin!

I love fall... my favorite time of year. emoticon Problem is the cooler temps make me want more comfort foods... but I am determined to get to my goal weight by Christmas. See... it is in writing so it will HAPPEN! Lol emoticon

Eliz... how is the 4:3 going?
I did that my first 6 months and later switched to 18:6. I lost nothing on 18:6 because I ate too much every day. I lost/gained the same five lbs over and over for 3 months and switched back to the FastDiet 5:2. On eating days now if I don't feel hungry I just skip until my next meal. I did that at my mom's house this week... but filled up on peanut M&Ms later rather than healthy food. Not good...
How about the hair thing... is it getting better or is it too early to notice? If anyone is under stress it would be you... stress can effect us all differently.

I have found it helps when I am really short on time. just pop up for and hour, and can turn it off when you need to go do something else, though, same it true of doing any work out at home of course! I would never do Gym's again! I once had free membership because worked close by and used to go in before work early and get it set up for the owner, but didn't keep it up.

The treadmill for us was much cheaper than the YMCA membership for 3 people. We have had it for years, bought used. We have a huge basement so space is not a problem.

I don't mind walking in rain and wind, but when I walk outside I tend to lolly gag around. The treadmill keeps me at a steady pace.

/ , don't have cash to spare either! I just knew I was no longer physically able to go out walking having to stop and sit down every few hundred yards. But our daughter had a treadmill that she needed to move to make a nursery. I bought it from her over time. I ended up selling it in the end, once I found out that walking was considered a bad idea for me at that point. The wii was very cheap from 'cash generator'. ha ha. much cheaper than buying a set of good weigh scales and a way to watch my 'you tube' videos in the spare room! plus good fun! the bike WAS a long thought out and saved for item. My physio said the only safe things I could do were cycle or swim. I am terrified of water and the roads round here on a bike? NO WAY PLUS I am rubbish on them! We decided that if I was ever going to get mobility back, this was a necessity, not a luxury so saved up for one. and it worked! The fitbit? you know about that one. my birthday gift from family members. So I am very ;hi tech; in my efforts this time.
emoticon emoticon emoticon
ALL through much good luck and making buying a few things a priority. BUT it must be fantastic to have the fitness that you have! to just do press ups and go running in the beautiful place you live! I would swap all my electric gadgets with you in heartbeat for that! you keep them legs going girl.

I don't have a treadmill, exercise bike, Wii Fit, or anything else of that ilk. Neither to I have the money or the space for them.

So yes, I can still do press-ups, one-legged squats etc indoors - and sometimes do - but for cardio exercise I just have to get out of the house and get wet, snowed on, hailed on, blown about, sun-shined upon - whatever the weather.

It's OK though. I don't exactly LIKE going out in the cold, dark, wet, ice, heat etc, but I've done it many times before and it doesn't actually HURT. As long as I have a towel and a change of clothes at the end I'll be fine!

I strongly prefer to do my 'exercise' walk on my treadmill. I don't have to get dressed or worry about the weather and I can watch my favorite movies that no one else in the house wants to watch. My outdoor walks are purely for enjoyment, strolls really, so I rarely do them in bad weather.

I think my wii and static bike may get some use now! I LOVE walking on sunny frosty mornings and in the rain!

BUT I don't like waking on cold,, cloudy miserable looking days or in wind!

This may make me sound a bit soft, but would rather pull the curtains, put on my music and cycle, walk, jog or play silly wii games in comfort!

It always seemed to me that fall starts when school starts - with cool morning temps no matter how hot the day gets. This year, school started on August 13th - sheesh! so that theory hasn't held true until this past week or so. Nice morning weather, perfect for doggie-walking! :)
Good luck to everyone with their September goals/challenges!! :D

Eliz, my plan is to fast on Tuesday, Thursday, and either Saturday or Sunday. It is easier for me to fast on days that I work and I work on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

Tammae, I made the yogurt this week, and realized it would be more helpful to you to know that I ended up with nine 16oz jars of yogurt. I used a gallon of whole milk, a 6 oz carton of Fage 2% greek yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of the Great Lakes Kosher Gelatin. Heated the milk to 195, then let it cool to 105 and added the yogurt/gelatin mix. Poured into the jars, put in the dehydrator over night at 105, and then transferred to the fridge.

I am feeling a bit off lately, I am wondering/hoping that I need a new pair of glasses. I am stepping up my efforts regarding what I eat and ensuring that I am getting adequate sleep. If that doesn't help, will have to go see the eye doctor.

I don't really mind the darker, colder nights. I like to get warm and snuggley after work. I always sleep better. but a bit more summer would have been nice.
