This week was my first week trying the ESE. I fasted Monday and Wednesday mainly because those were the most convenient days when I wouldn't be tempted to eat with family or friends and when I would be doing my own thing most of the day. I lost 3 pounds! I couldn't believe it! I finally broke my 4 month long plateau. I'm very excited to do it again next week.

To maintain I find I can skip fasting all together. If I have a large meal(s) that a week then one fast will keep me on track. IIRC Brad Pilon normally fasts only once per week. YMMV. I hope that helps.

Question to anyone who is using ESE to maintain weight...... Do you change the number of days that you fast? I'm just wondering if continuing to fast with ESE would lead eventually to underweight. (Not that underweight is a possibility for ME, but I'm just wondering!)

Wishing everyone a great weekend! emoticon

Well done! It certainly doesn't seem like a flop in terms of your outcomes! Some folks do a 16 hour fast and an 8 hour eating window everyday so you may want to consider that. Does you husband every fast with you? That can be very supportive. Do you do any resistance exercise to maintain or expand muscle mass? Fat lose combined with muscle expansion creates an attractive look and you keep your strength for everyday activities and reduce the chance of injury.

My week was a flop in terms of strictly water fast which was my goal but I have still successfully lost weight over since I started it. So after reading some of the other posts on this team I looked into the other fasts. Eat stop eat and the If. I accidentally slipped into the IF from my water fast.
So I started out and I fasted my first whole day with success.I drank my herbal tea mixture I made for fasting, to calm my stomach and nourish my body. Then the next day i was great until I made dinner and I caved and ate some dinner. I forgot to drink my tea. :( After that I fasted all day and then caved and ate a snack. Then I ate the next day, then I ate dinner the next day and on and on. I mixed it up alot. I give myself lei way and it works beautifully! I am accepting of myself and my bodies process and i try to guide it sternly and gentelly in the right direction. I works wonders for me. I have lost 35 pounds since June all because of fasting! I usually fast in small incriments.
I have a very supportive family. I am blessed with that. My 6 yr. old will remind me that i am fasting, and my husband checks in on me all the time to ask how I am doing. He will encourage me to continue my fast if I am dissapointed in myself. I am aalway encouraged. I know my own body and i know when to stop. So many people worry i will starve but i know better. All that has happened to me me is that i have become healthier! Like the last 2 days for example. I fasted the first day and the yesterday I ate regularly and I lost 2 lbs. Awesome! All days are not like this.
A few months ago I fasted for 10 days and only lost 6 lbs. and then gained 2 back which is expected. The rate at which you lose weight when you fast can vary greatly but there is usually the weightloss of 1/2 lb. to 1lb. a day. I am still going with this. This really works for me and I praise fasting to the skies. .......Sorry i kind of went off and my conversations is every where. I hope it wasn't to tedious to follow. Anyway i hoped this helped! emoticon emoticon

Your week is almost over, how has it gone? How did you feel? What have been the results? Any struggles, successes, tips, challenges? Did you take any supplements for vitamins and minerals during the fast? Did you get positive or negative social support from those around you? I've never gone a week so I'm curious (so many questions) how it has gone for you.

I am starting a week long fast today and will end it this weekend maybe and then eat fruit and soup the day after. I am going to do a water fast since that is the thing that works for me. I need to remain disiplined! Wish me luck! I have a wedding to briadsmaid at next week! ^_^

Hi everyone!
I was away so I am just getting back in the saddle with fasting. Yesterday i fasted until dinner time, but then I ate 600 or 700 calories - so i only had a small weight loss by the morning.

It's good for me to reread my posted from when I was doing well, to get back in the fasting flow.

I am currently doing 3 fasts a week - MWF - the fasts are typically 23 or 24 hours (see my blog) but can be as little as 20 hours if dinner was delayed the night before. I need the 3 fasts a week to be livable long-term to keep asthma healed.

I keep evening calories around 400 calories - (sometimes 500 max)

I typically have dinner around 6 or 6:30 most nights - but life happens...

Did two fasting days last week, one yesterday and plan another for Wednesday and Friday. I fast a full calendar day. I might be tempted to do dinner to dinner but I know me - I would overeat at dinner if I had all day to think about it, I REALLY like to eat in the evening. But when I wake up after my fasting day, I'm not really starving, so I can start the day healthy and continue it.

Boy, the thing that really gets me about the fasting though is how boring a day is without food! Seriously, how many times when I'm bored do I want to eat? A lot, that's for sure. :)

A week ago when I weighed first thing Monday morning, I weighed 281. This morning I weighed in at 263, 18 pounds down. I'll be delighted to lose an average of 1% a week, which is reasonable (2-3 pounds a week at this weight). Just a matter of sticking with it.

If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the answer.

Succesfully fast ended tonight (24 hours) after my lifting at the gym. I screwed up on my post fast eating by having too much of my wife's home baked bread. I will see the effect tomorrow with my measurements. I'm hitting two more fasting days this week.

This week I'm doing Tues/Thurs (full calendar days).

When I do my weekly planning on Sundays (menus, appointments, etc.), I'll take a look at the week and see what days work. I'd prefer Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thur but that won't always work because I want this to be on the down-low. If there's a family dinner or a potluck or something where it would be obvious that I'm fasting, then I'll rearrange my days.

Janae - you are doing so well -

and coolvngirl- I think that makes sense - don't sweat the total 24 hours if that pushes dinner too late...

I used to eat a lot (dinner) after fasting but now I just eat a normal meal. I don't count for exactly 24 hours any more since I don't want to eat dinner late and also about my schedule ,as long as I only eat 1 meal on that day, I count it as a fast day.

Fasting today!
I still don't follow a set routine - I just fast when I feel the need. Sometimes it's when I've eaten too much the day before. Sometimes it's when I'm feeling especially motivated. Today its both!

You are doing really well with this!

I think you point is a good one - for some people it is best to only fast once a week. But it is very important to do what Brad says about "do not overeat" the rest of the week. Try to master that concept - bit by bit...

I also read on another fasting site that many men found it easier to fast for 24 hours - but some women did better with a shorter fast - like about 18 hours. That is true for me -

But I will keep the calories low on the fasting day...

I read the Brad Pilon info and it seems to be well researched and a reasonable concept.

I tried the fasting on 2 different days, but found that that I would feel light headed on the 2nd day of fasting in any given week.

No problem - I just fast one day per week usually Mondays or Tuesdays and of course the weight will come of a little slower.

I find that it's best not to fast on a day that you are planning on doing heavy exercise (aerobics or running). Fasting, plus tired in the evening plus heavy exercise can lead to trips or accidents. Also fasting plus exercise can make you feel real hungry.

My wife claims that I tend to eat more the day before or after a fast day - so something to watch out for.

I try to not be to rigid about the fast day since I sometimes have to take someone out for a business lunch - and the fast day plan is foiled. However, just go with the flow and try a different day.

For me it's no problem to not eat the day of the fast - just drink plenty of water. Just be careful about binging the next day. Occasionally I will chew a little gum - just avoid the sugar free stuff unless it has a healthy sweetener. Some claim that the aspartame is dangerous stuff. If I do end up doing some heavy exercise on a fast day I will sometimes drink a coconut water (60 cals) from Trader Joes

The next step for me is to follow Brad Pilon's advice about the weight training.

hope this helps

I did a fast yesterday - first time in months. I've gotten into the habit of waiting to eat until I'm hungry, but I usually don't make it past lunch time.

So yesterday (after a horrible weekend) I did a fast and felt GREAT! I actually forgot how good/light you can feel after a fast.

This morning I made myself eat a grapefruit just to stay true to the plan. I'm planning to fast again on Wednesday too!

Are you still doing ESE? What a great thing to have 3 on the staff doing it together!

I just started on ESE and I'm trying to decided on my fasting days - I did Sunday this week - breakfast to breakfast. So at least I had Sunday breakfast! It gives me something to run on through the day, too.

I fast on Tues/Thurs. I work in a face paced clinic for youth with autism on those days. We are on the run for about 12 hours each clinic day. The people who do eat lunch dinner only have about 10 mn. Makes for the perfect fast days- there are three of us on staff doing ESE.

Oh - to answer your question...I'm doing Fast-5 right now. Looking to use either JUDDD, or ESE as I move into a maintenance mode.

I'm best on M, W, F, and will keep those days a WF no matter what.

I can't skip dinner either - I try not to be noticable when I'm cutting calories. (I don't want my kids to think that's all Mom thinks about.)

I like the ESE plan, I just wondered if fasting only 2 days a week would make weight loss THAT much slower. Even though I start IF as a life plan, I do want to see that I'm making progress!

I'm OK with my 19 or 20 hour fasts. Sometimes I even get to 22 or 23 hours, depending on when we have dinner. It's only dinner I have a hard time skipping, since it's the only meal we all sit down together to eat. :)

During fasting weeks, I'll fast 1 or 2 days per week, not always the same days.

I eat a late lunch (finish around 5 PM) one day and then skip breakfast and lunch the next day and eat dinner sometime after 5 PM. It adds up to one full day of not eating, and isn't too difficult.

Ah I fast a different day each week. My husband works nights mostly, but each week he has two nights off. I know from experience that when I get home from work those days we will go out for dinner, so I fast during the daytime of those days. That way I don't have to worry so much about where we head off to.

Do you fast on the same day each week? More than one day? Tell us about it.
