My mom was a big ole farm gal who came from a large family. There was a strong "family ethic" of "waste not/want not." I find that I recycle everything I can now, imagine that!?! emoticon
Most of the time I liked FOOD, all sorts even veggies but I cannot eat Brussels sprouts to this day emoticon I was forced to eat them cold when I ignored them on my plate. emoticon

We ate what was put on the table. If you didn't want to eat, you weren't forced to but you knew that there would probably not be any leftovers for later. I came from a really big family.

Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile..

Yes, we were forced to eat veggies and clean our plates or we were not allowed to leave the table.Sometimes this would take hours. I forced down many cold green beans, peas, and potatoes during my childhood. lol. At one point, I thought that I had figured a way to get out of eating those things by sneaking them into my napkin, and then hiding the veggie filled napkins under my bed. This only saved me for about a week after which my mother discovered my "stash". My punishment you may ask?....Why, of course, it was to eat even more veggies!
And we, like many of you, were also given the starving children in China lecture. My younger brother's response to my mother about this was, "Then send them mine!"lol
Happily, I can say that today I love all vegetables, and did not end up traumatized for the rest of my life.

My Mom made me clean my plate usually. I hated mashed potatoes. Now I love them but I wish I still hated them because they're a comfort food.

I remember clothes lines as well and putting on a pair of shorts with a wasp nest inside...ouch! But I also remember I could open a Zagnut candy bar under my pillow and eat it without anyone knowing!

I don't remember much of being a kid - my mom died when i was 3 and i have no memory of childhood from 10 and under.... wish i did - i filled my mind with ideas of little house on the prairie; road to avonlea; the waltons....if i had a childhood - i would have wanted it to be like any of those shows.

Judy I am ALWAYS saying to my son that he needs to eat his food because kids in China and ohter parts of the world go hungry everyday. EVen though I don't think he understands since he is 4, but it helps some.

No forced veggies, but we were admonished to clean our plates because of those starving children in China. Luckily we had a major garden with lots of fresh fruits and veggies that tasted great anyway.
