grateful
-for a day of silence
-for freshness from open windows, a shower, clean bedding and many prepped vegetables
-sorting anew starts tomorrow
-to be hopeful about quieting a raging appetite
-to know sleep will come after virtually none last night

Today I am thankful for:

the beautiful Spring we have had. Some years we go straight to hot, but this year weve had a long period of cool nights and nice days.

the abundance of veggies weve been eating. The lettuce, Kales, and Swiss Chard have been amazing. Cool nights help a lot, but Im beginning to wonder if I overdid the fertilizer???

taking photographs of flowers.

a beautiful album Im listening to by Imee Ooi, The Chant of Metta.

a good season of Game of Thrones, though they should have killed more main characters in the third episode. Is there a reason they kept so many???

a huge Flicker Woodpecker at the suet feeder I can see, and the little Downy Woodpecker trying to sneak in.

the love of a good cat! ...of and of my wife of course..

take care, bob

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Making a deal with myself this morning ... and keeping it (hey, whatever it takes)
-Healthy crock pot meal made that I can eat off of all week AND take some to a friend who can't drive for now due to knee replacement
-Taking a meal to said friend above (she wanted fast food, hence, my thought to take her some of what I cooked and she said it sounded great)
-Getting the air pressure adjusted in my ultra sensitive tires (probably because of my recent road trip), love that my car dealership is right down the road and I can just pull in
-A bit of exercise & a good amount of stretching; BONUS: I can feel the knee improvement by how well I can now stretch that was a problem before (child's pose is a giveaway)
-Treating myself to a healthy lunch out
-Knowing that things are up and down for everybody; we're just human

Have a great evening all -
Stephanie

Last day of April, and anticipating a traveling day tomorrow. I have a mixture of fear and "no, just stay home" impulses, and am trying to transform the anxious feelings into excitement feelings (the hormones that drive both are the same, our reading of it changes! So why not tell yourself, "I'm excited and looking forward to it!" rather than dwelling on the "fear" part of it.

Thankful for great quotes that help me reframe life experiences and issues.

thankful for good writers who transform thinking and approaches to life.

Thankful for:

not being one of those ultra-marathoners or speedy thru-hikers. Sounds like... not a lot of fun. But enjoying reading about their exploits, so grateful for that too, that there are people who share their lives and journey with us.

Thankful for: That I have enough, which means I can be more ruthless about donating things I don't wear often or don't care for very much. Still hard for me to donate/give away, because I remember times when I didn't have enough.... but grateful for this opportunity to donate to benefit others and to clear/declutter my living space and make the room beautiful again.

Thankful for: taking a positive step with the bank, to repay a loan from when I had a job. The bank was good to me, froze my loan (no interest) until I could start repaying it, and they have never ever, not once, made me feel bad for not being able to pay it yet. But now I can, and so, I am grateful for that as well.

Beautiful day
Scavengers picking through household trash in the neighborhood. I hope what they find blesses their lives and am grateful they keep things out of the landfill.
For the chance to clean clutter out of our lives and make our living space better.

Greatly thankful for the blessing of a new chiropractor who from day one has made me feel better instantly. today, I finally feel better and can stand up straight. Yes!

Greatly thankful for a good night's sleep. That is a rarity these days.

And heartily thankful for a good appointment for Mom. Broken back rod does not need to be replaced, she is overall doing pretty well. Still concerned about other aspects of her health, but she knows and is doing what she can, so very grateful for that too.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Being home, after safe travels
-Taking today off work, a day to recuperate and spend time with the kitties
-The always-amazing Palo Duro Canyon, stunningly beautiful
-Being able to hike 7 miles in the canyon on a rocky, hilly trail and even more, my knee doing fine!
-Getting kissed by a coyote named Luna; not a wild coyote, but one who has seizures, so will be a teaching coyote at Wild West Animal Rehabilitation Center, where my dear friend and I volunteered Saturday; also met a blind raven named Edgar, another coyote named Wylie, two wild pigs and two barred owls
-Being introduced to quail eggs; a friend of my friend raises quail & keeps everybody supplied; she sent me with 2 dozen (3-5 quail eggs = the size of 1 chicken egg), they taste no different but they have gorgeous markings, much more exotic than regular eggs
-Spending precious time with my dear friend of 32+ years

Have a great evening all,
Stephanie

First Id like to wish everyone a wonderful Easter!

Today I am thankful for:

breaking my records (from my watch) for Calories burned, Aerobic Exercise, and Steps last Thursday. I didnt realize it when I last posted Friday. I didnt think to check since I was feeling really bad. I was very surprised when I checked Saturday, it is what a deadline does for you.

rain Friday! It allowed me to rest and recover a bit.

watching a new Amazing Race with my wife. Its the only reality show we ever watched and thought it had been canceled.

my wife making a wonderful Kale salad with our Kales growing on the deck. Also fresh Swiss Chard we grew in my Burrito. It was really good!

watching an old religious movie on Easter. I watched Barabbas with Anthony Quinn today. Such a great story. Back in the old days, wed always look forward to the movies during the Easter weekend, since it was the only time they were shown.

take care, bob

Sandra, I hope your husband's recovery continues to improve. Glad you are getting help with your house!

Today I am thankful for:

coming back to post- quickly for me. We finished the hardest physical project this week, and though super busy, I hope the pain level will drop and I can post more frequently.

Stephanie sending me an encouraging note with a goodie- 4/5, that I received on my worse day- head wise- two weeks ago. I literally opened the mail when I was feeling the worse. It helped a great deal. What a blessing you are Steph!

Alburris2 making a comment on my page yesterday- worst pain day, encouraging me to post again. Thank you so much for taking the time to contact me.

ice, pain killers, muscle relaxants, braces, and helpful employees when I cant bend over.

my wife keeping up going to the Y, even when I had to stop because of the pain level. Im so proud of her! What a trooper!

wonderful fresh lettuce from out deck urns. The lettuce and kales are loving the cool, wet spring.

take care, bob

Thankful for:

Mom's sudden pain being easily resolved
Sweet Rosy going to a family member who fell out of bed, because she was worried about them and wanted to help
For successful workout at the Y, and that the other people there are so warm and friendly

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Stopping to get my dear friend's favorite Kansas City chocolates
-Things slowing down pretty quickly when the weather broke out into hail when I was driving
-Sweet Rosie who's curled up inside my duffel bag making it difficult to pack
-The fact that I will likely hold off on packing until tomorrow morning just to not disturb Rosie
-Great neighbors and friends
-Finishing up my editing on first chapter of friend's dissertation
-My comfie bed ... calling me ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-The magic of a solid night of sleep ... aaaaah ... emoticon
-Knowing that my kitties will be in good hands while I'm gone over the holiday weekend; dear friend just left after her "refresher" course (not that I'm particular or anything!) emoticon
-Nearing the end of the first chapter of editing on my friend's dissertation; double gratitude that the topic is interesting!! Hahaha! emoticon
-Processing my upset about how a nonprofit in DIRE need can't prioritize well enough to get volunteers up and running . Filled out my application over a year ago; sent followup a few months back and thought it would happen. Finished the training videos. Nothing. Sent another followup e-mail; nothing. So very sad to me, and they REALLY need folks with a legal background, something I've worked in most of my life emoticon
-Spring maintenance things and yard stuff starting to happen ... my beloved ponds will be opening next week ... soon I won't be able to hear the TV in the rec room over the frogs
-A soft, warm, comfortable bed that's calling my name ... kitties will follow ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

-My warm, soft bed calling me now ...

Goodnight all,

Another beautiful day to enjoy, blue skies (rare around here) and sunshine, which has been very rare over the last six months.

that some good things are going to happen soon, and even the "bad thing" that is going to happen (Mom needs surgery to replace a broken rod in her back, probably) may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

that God is with us, always, through good times and bad.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Co-worker who went on a snorkeling trip in Indonesia sharing a video of her trip (professional photographer on board); underwater filming was amazing, video included drone shots of the islands and ocean from above, as well as all the snorkelers on the trip from below
-Fun new jigsaw for book lovers started at work; we keep one going all the time for short, mental breaks from work
-Our Facilities team being the best! I got stuck in the women's restroom (door handle mechanism broke when I entered) and only had to wait for 15 minutes
-The beautiful buds on Beth's tree that are now very visible
-Scheduling time off for a 5-day weekend and a 4-day weekend in April, much-needed breaks
-Getting excited about visiting my best friend in Amarillo next weekend and hiking Palo Duro Canyon, weather permitting (second largest U.S. canyon, only to the Grand); last time we hiked up to the lighthouse peak, shown below

Have a great evening all -

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Beautiful weather over the past several days
-Talking to my best friend in Amarillo tonight as we make plans for my upcoming visit
-Getting two shorter 20-minute workouts in today/tonight
-Making my healthy crustless quiche tonight for lunches and dinners this week
-My two crazy girls, Rosie and Cassie, who just love spinach leaves (if torn in properly-sized pieces, mind you!)
-Trader Joe's is still getting my heirloom oranges in, but they're getting smaller (got two bags)
-Giving myself a reward today ... a Weight Watchers body weight scale that gives me more info than the plain one I've got right now that's also very old (now backup) and Costco had it for $5 immediate rebate, total of $15 for my reward
-My soft, comfortable bed that's calling me now ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Thankful for a mood and attitude reset, for a person whose response to bad actions on a person's part is to take care of it not just sweep it under the carpet.. Amazing example of taking appropriate action against bullying. And for this beautiful day.

Seeing owls Stephanie! Way cool!

Today I am thankful for:

A nice morning training one of the new guys in pruning techniques. It was great up until we found out there was a funeral service at the church in 30 minutes and had to clean up like crazy people.

Going to the Y with my wife, even though I was in a lot of pain. I thought I would try and see if I just did aerobic exercises and skipped the weights if that would be easier on my body, yet still help with weight loss. So far so good, will see in the morning how it goes.

seeing the episode of Grays Anatomy from last week about a woman who was brutally raped and one of the characters finding out she was given away as a baby due to this also. Im glad they tackled this subject.

finding out the episode I watched above was from a week ago so I still have another episode in the queue to watch tomorrow.

take care, bob

On this Friday night, I'm grateful for:

-A rainy, dreary morning that blossomed into a beautiful afternoon/evening sunshine
-Successfully resyncing my Fitbit AND getting my 10K steps in today (something that has not been happening often the past 1-2 weeks, but I'm allowed, given difficult anniversary dates!)
-My beloved Arboretum was open tonight, one of their rare Friday nights
-My evening walk out in the woods ... so quiet and peaceful (I know these trails really well)
-The beautiful owls, first calling to each other, then flying directly overhead and landing in the nearby tree, just stunning; it was still dusk so I could see the type of owl it was ... (the barn owl in the pic is one I took when a rescue org brought in 3 of their owls, this was Gismo)
-hearing my first frogs of the season, knowing that soon, I won't be able to watch TV in the rec room because the frogs by the gardens will be too loud ... not kidding here!
-So happy that I took advantage of the weather and the timing and had my night walk out in such beauty
-Setting the scene for some wonderful sleep tonight ...

For in gratitude, I find my grace.

Goodnight all -

Stephanie

Im going to try and reframe some things that are giving me a very hard time dealing with positively. Im much more comfortable being angry and bummed out, but here goes:

Today I am thankful for:

the Orthopaedic surgeon who wont do a knee replacement, Ive needed for 5 years, due to my weight. I saw him the first of the year and got an exact weight and BMI to have the surgery, which has gotten me focused on Weightloss and brought me back to Spark.

to the Surgery center, that yesterday, refused to let me have procedures done there due to my BMI- 1.5 points high. Ive never had a single problem with anesthesia, with many procedures, but that doesnt matter. This will push back any pain relief for the first area at least 6 weeks (2 to lose weight, 4 for it to work). The stress and pain of the spring work getting going has caused me to eat more and Ive gained a few pounds instead of continuing to lose like I was before. The refusal is a wake up call and with 4 procedures to come- 1 every 2 weeks, Ill have to keep my weight down the entire time, our busiest few months, which has been a time I usually gain weight.

take care, bob

Starting out the day with a therapeutic massage, for which I am truly grateful. And also grateful that I finally "pruned" my shaggy girl, Rosy. That beautiful face came out and she looks so happy! And grateful that I live in an area where I can get these services for my back without driving hours.

Ann it sure is a fascinating series! Stephanie give those sweet kitties a little scratch from Uncle Bob and Mr. Big (aka. Jasper).

Today I am thankful for:

the sweet intoxicating smell of the Mohawk Viburnum, Viburnum x. burkwoodii Mohawk. Now to state the obvious (hah) its no Korean Spicebush, Viburnum carlcephalum, when it comes to a pure sweet fragrance, but it was darn tootin good!

Red buds(dumbest name ever, join me in the Campaign to rename them Purple buds. Crabapples, tulips, candytuft, Virginia Bluebells, Snowflakes, et al.

take care, bob

Tonight I am grateful for all of this, but really so much more:

-Cleo (my Siamese), lapping up her "broth"
-Rosie, who is waiting by the door for me 99% of the time; the other 1%, she's on the dining room table looking out that window for me to pull in (an area she KNOWS she's not allowed!!)
-Cassie, my night owl; it was hard to rouse her for food this morning
-A clean house; it certainly seems to correlate with my head feeling clearer (go figure)
-My comfortable home, my safe haven from the storms

For in gratitude, I find my grace,

Stephanie

This morning I am grateful for the fact that my son and his wife live here, allowing us to see weekly how our grandson grows and changes.
I am grateful that our basement did not flood as the mounds of snow melted.
I'm grateful that those mounds of snow DID melt, even though I love winter.
I am grateful that my rhubarb is poking up - mmm - rhubarb pie!
